Whose to blame on the defense taking a step back this year?

Every D gives it up at times, and every D makes stops at times. What you need is a facet of the game to rely on when you're having trouble making stops. That facet is often S and DT. We are weak there. As long as that's the case, you'll see this D be inconsistent.

Fpr the life of me I cannot comprehend how we can have so little understanding of the DT position and the monstrous effect it has on the overall D. There's never been a top D in the NFL w/ subpar DT's. Yes, that's a challenge!!!!!!!!!!!

The front office pretty much kept the defense in tact for this season, outside of the addition of Robert Quinn. They did lose a quality player in Crawford, but in essence the same personnel for this unit.

Whose to blame for the unit's regression this year:

-Coaching Staff
-Scheme
-Players
-Offense

We can point to all the above. However, in my opinion, the offense sticks out to me. Zeke Elliot was drafted to not only help the offense, but the defense as well. The team's philosophy was a dominate ground rushing attack, that would control the clock, grind out first downs, wear their opponents out and most importantly keep their defense fresh! The team is currently 19th in the league in time of possession, they were 3rd in Zeke's rookie year, in which they earned the #1 seed in the playoffs. The defense has always been a problem spot of this team in recent years, perhaps a very overrated group.

The keys to success to pretty simple, return to their run first philosophy. I don't want to hear about teams loading the box, they have been doing that since Zeke arrived. Be successful on the ground, the defense will start to look so much better and success to far more attainable!
Who is to blame; the entire organization from top to bottom. We have safeties that cant cover, corners that don’t play the ball in the air, undersize DT’s that can’t stop the run and prevent OL from reaching our LB’s and I didn’t even talk about the offence or drafting philosophies. It’s a total organization screw up.

Yup. And since our 90's super bowl winners were built on a big deep nasty DLine rotation, it makes even less sense. The saddest part is that Jerry appears to believe that those super bowls were won strictly on the triplets.

Lucky for our craptastic D that Dak is scoring a pile today. We haven't been great at stopping this stellar O w/ that HOF Qb leading it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you forgot we lost Gregory and Irving on DL.

And a lack of pressure by DL has been the difference overall.

And missing on our top pick in draft.

Yea but I’m not sure it’s going to be a consistent model for success leaving our defense on the field longer with our passing offense as we aren’t chewing up TOP with 8 minute drives.

Jerry's to blame fo doing what Rod wants and Not getting a real Dt. The coaches are also to blame for not figuring out how to stop the run after the Colts and rams ran a hole in us last year. And Chido is to blame for not developing ball skills and awareness. He's also to blame for not playing to his strengths and pressing on most plays.

I honestly think it's Richard. He was fired in Seattle because his defense wasn't any good.

Jourdan Lewis is our best DB and it took the coaching staff 3 years and an injury to another player to see it. I dont feel sorry if any or all of them get fired! Heaths been our starter how long?
Byrons the best DB Clearly. He leaves a lot to be desired, but he's still our best. Lewis can't run with fast receivers.

Hey, I get defensive struggles are real for most clubs at various times. Let’s just say I’m really thankful the Lions were down a right tackle, two running backs, AND Matthew Stafford this week.
