How about Randall Cobb?

A few weeks back we had the conversation about Cobb and the disappointing plays, miscues, and turnovers he was involved in, and comparing his numbers to the departed Cole Beasley. At that time, I was openly questioning whether or not it was a mistake swapping one out for the other. And since then, Cobb has exploded, and helped to keep this offense humming:
  1. 6 receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown vs Minnesota
  2. 4 receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown vs Detroit
Some had pointed out that there were several big plays and scores that Cobb had brought back by penalty, and if not for that, his numbers would have looked much better. Looks like they were right. Cobb has been a key contributor to the passing game, giving the Cowboys a three-headed monster for defenses to contend with.

And the man is well-deserving of some praise.

yes great games BUT he did have 2 key drops this game but he made up for it..imagine how good he would be if he didnt drop the easy catches..he started running without ball on that early drive man that was going to be big and he got ahead of himself..

True, he had what looked like a lot of field in front of him. But he rebounded and had a great day.

That turning your head before you complete the catch seems to have happened to a lot of our players this year.

I can remember Zeke and Pollard having that same issue this year as well. I think the coaches need to make it a big point of emphasis for everyone. I think I saw a graphic that said we were at or near the top of the league in drops.

Let's bump that "Cut Cobb" thread. He had one bad game and everyone came for him, yet now that he's playing somewhat like he did in GB, everyone is quiet.

Cobb, you have my respect .

Typical of every player on the roster, past and present and future.

Now many on hating, well, some still hating on Zeke.

Agreed. He had a game where he was absolutely terrible, but has played well overall, IMO. It's good to see him making plays that aren't called back by penalty so he gets the credit he deserves.

Now only if he could catch the Pop Warner Catches.

Seems like he can only haul in the difficult stuff.

His drop at the End of the Game on 3rd down could have cost us against a better Team.

He obviously brings a different threat than Beasley did. Beasley may be more of a threat to go get that 3rd and short but Cobb can go get that 18+ yd td while you are worried about Cooper and Gallup.

But Dak only throws the difficult stuff so it's ok. :muttley:

He and Beasley have about the same numbers right now. Beasley has a few more catches, Cobb has a little more yardage. Both have 3 touchdowns.

Cobb is still a way better rapper.

Cobb used to lead the league in receptions and was the go to guy for Aaron Rodgers, before his injuries.

He can still ball and we're lucky to have him.

I was very glad they signed Cobb, and I am not trying to take anything away from his recent play because he has done quite well, but one thing to keep in mind is that he came from Green Bay, who played the VIkings and Lions twice every season, so he was quite familiar with their teams and players.

I think he needs to have those kinds of games against other non-NFC North teams before we can really judge how well the signing was.

That said, hopefully he will have one of those kinds of games against the Bears too :D

I read that we were 4th in drops going into yesterdays game. Maybe even higher now, not sure. At any rate, that's not a category in which you want to be highly ranked.

I’ll be the first to admit I was questioning Cobb for quite a few weeks. These last two games he has been the noticeable upgrade over Beasley I had hoped for when he signed. If this trend continues this offense could be legitimately elite. Particularly if Zeke and the OL can find their best efforts consistently.

That is something to consider, but I also consider that he had several big plays and scores called back due to penalties. And some of those occurred in games not against NFC North opponents. If I remember correctly, there were three or four additional scores he would have if not for penalty.

Think of how different we'd be viewing things if he had 6 or 7 touchdowns scored? We might even be looking at a few more wins?

I knew it was up there. And I think Gallup leads the league in drops and all three of our guys are in the top 20 in the category. I can't help but to think how much better Dak's stats would look if guys weren't dropping passes?
