NFL: two tripping penalties shouldn’t have been called

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that had the two calls not been made it wouldn't have made any difference in the outcome.

There is no way to say those two calls took points off the board.

sure.
but the Cowboys were moving the ball on that final drive, as Dak tends to do. 3rd and 1, get the first down.
Suddenly, it becomes 3rd and 11. that is a monumental shift in everything going on in the game. an absolute killer. your chances dropped wayyyy down in that moment. and it shouldn't have happened. refs drastically dropped the Cowboys' chances for a call that should not have been made. that is infuriating.

too little too late.. they simply might need to move to expand the PI review rule to allowing all to be challenged but still only allowing the same amount of challenges.. I know not plausible but a coach would have to make sure he didnt waste any on cheap penaltys and used them on blatant game changing type like the pones that bring back big plays or end game like 3 of them in our game..

OR have a group of retired officials watching live game in real time the same as us but with a direct link to each game to buzz in and tell the game ref he got it wrong and to pick u the flag..its so obvious to us right away watching the game and seeing the instant repay provided by broadcast.. seems like they can reverse egregious calls..

didnt they have something in the works like this called a SKY Official?

just saying oops we are sorry after the game isnt good enough anymore..the bad call all over the league , a lot are game changing , are out of control..

Geee. Thanks NFL..

It's all better now. Appreciate it. How now, you reprimand some of these Blind Refs with maybe a firing or two?

Same thing every week. NFL: " yeah, that shouldn't of been called".. The next week, no change. This is for any NFL game mind you.

they need to make every penalty reviewable, as bad as the current NFL reffing is, they cannot have these games come down to bad reffing week after week

Exactlyyyyyy!!! Especially when it's changing the game.

Add this one to the list of bizarre BS calls that have cost the Cowboys a chance to win games. Last years call on LP for spinning the ball before a game tying FG, Butler getting "Unsportsmanlike" for being in the huddle in the playoff game against GB, and if course.....Dez caught it. I guess we should be happy it wasn't a playoff game this time.

don't forget when we got a defensive false start last year.

Two penalties that shouldn't have mattered if we didn't have an underachieving team courtesy of an incompetent coaching staff.

Really? A pair of phantom penalties that effectively sabotaged two of our 12 possessions (including our last real shot) "shouldn't have mattered" in a close game on the road against the greatest dynasty in the history of the sport? What the hell, man?

Perhaps. There's no denying they took away two scoring opportunities (including our last one). In a game as tight as that one was, those lost opportunities were huge.

the only explanation is that Belichick talked with the refs before hand to look for it, because those penalties are rarely called like Shanahan talked with the Refs to cause the snap infraction that has never been called in LP's career

So they have good HC's and we have crap. Thanks for the additional evidence!

Some posters here don't understand statistics. They think that what happened on Sunday is very common! 2 times in 10 years means there is 1/2560 chance every game that two tripping calls happen. That is less than 0.1% chance. I think some lottery games have better odds.

This is similar to the huddle penalty called on Dallas against GB in the playoffs. It was also only the second time it happened in 15 years. Those odds

are 1/3840 LOL

But those two extremely unlikely situations happened to Dallas in the past few years. I guess we are just very very unlucky huh?

Thanks. This should help some that are experiencing denial understand how rare these game changing calls really are

I’d hope.

So does this mean the Cowboys won the game? Cool. I'm still for reviewing penalties or at least being able to challenge them.
The only penalty that currently can be reviewed (PI) rarely gets overturned, even in calls/non-calls that are blatantly wrong:

"The moment unfolded late in the fourth quarter, when Giants wideout Golden Tate first appeared to be held by Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones. One second later, Jones wrapped his arm around Tate’s chest and right arm well before a pass from Daniel Jones arrived. The interference seemed obvious in real time. In slow motion, it looked nothing less than indefensible.

The officials disagreed. The call went to vice president of officiating Al Riveron for review in New York and it stood."

It doesn't matter whether you're in the camp of (a) the officials are inept (b) the officials show bias/favoritism (c) the officials are crooked, or (d) the officials are carrying out goodell orders to sway game outcomes a particular way, the result is the same. Officials are not going to correct their mistakes even when obvious, indisputable evidence of their mistake is available. This goes back to the turd blandino and his ineptness and has continued with riveron. One has to wonder, in the face of video proof, why goodell allows this clown show to continue week after week...
PI review is a sham. Not only won't the change obvious errors in officiating, they charge the "offending" coach (one who dares to challenge the officials) a TO for their trouble. The league, and officiating, in particular, is broken.

PI is different. Those are always sketchy to call. No one ever calls tripping penalties and they both were wrong. It makes no sense.
They were both wrong but it doesn’t take away from the fact that whether it’s a phantom tripping call or Beasley falling over a yard short of the 1st down marker on 3rd down and still getting credit for the 1st down they are all horrendous potentially game changing calls.

There’s no way you can tell me that the non PI call against Engram was sketchy. That was probably the worst non PI call I’ve seen in ANY game all season and then a few plays later when the Cowboys are deep in their own territory on third down the officials call PI against the Giants which was titty bumping compared to what happened to Engram and it resulted in the Cowboys eventually getting a TD.

C’mon dude, just admit that we get good calls and bad calls like every other team. The officiating sucks but the conspiracy theories are nothing but an excuse for whiners and cry babies who refuse to acknowledge that we have had several calls/non calls that have benefited us.
