NFL: two tripping penalties shouldn’t have been called

They were both wrong but it doesn’t take away from the fact that whether it’s a phantom tripping call or Beasley falling over a yard short of the 1st down marker on 3rd down and still getting credit for the 1st down they are all horrendous potentially game changing calls.

There’s no way you can tell me that the non PI call against Engram was sketchy. That was probably the worst non PI call I’ve seen in ANY game all season and then a few plays later when the Cowboys are deep in their own territory on third down the officials call PI against the Giants which was titty bumping compared to what happened to Engram and it resulted in the Cowboys eventually getting a TD.

C’mon dude, just admit that we get good calls and bad calls like every other team. The officiating sucks but the conspiracy theories are nothing but an excuse for whiners and cry babies who refuse to acknowledge that we have had several calls/non calls that have benefited us.
For me it’s about the timing of that last tripping call. Negated the first down. Put us in a bad spot. At the end of a game when we are driving. If it happened in the first quarter I don’t think it would be as bad. But if Cooper holds on to the ball on 4th down it’s just another bad call.

I’m not even sure what you are arguing. I’m not of the stance we don’t get bad or good calls. I’m talking about this past Sunday. Whether we get good or bad calls is irrelevant.

That's exactly my point, we don't lose because of these bad calls but we shouldn't have to overcome this kind of nonsense in the first place.

The other thing missing from this thread is that if it was just bad officiating, it would even out over time. Every fan is biased but no one can point to a single horrible call that went in our favor over the last two years.

And the penalties that are rarely called seem to get called on us. 7 tripping calls all year and we get 2 in one game and both aren’t even close to the intentional motion of tripping anyone. And it’s while we are in the middle of a potential winning drive at the end of the game. I remember another game (maybe a playoff) we were doing well and all the sudden they hit us with a penalty they haven’t called in years. It almost looks like the refs want us to know there being sketchy. Lol. They could just call a holding penalty if they wanted to be sly.

Perhaps I misinterpreted your post. I’m talking about the nonsense conspiracy theories, fans who make excuses for losing and act like we’re always the victim when it comes to penalties.

Probably not the worst:

That would be assuming that the "mistake" was unintentional,,,

I believe it's extremely rare for an official to make a deliberate mistake. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I believe 99.9% of the time they're giving it an honest effort to be as accurate as possible. They certainly don't always get it right, and this was a glaring example. It does make me wonder if there should be a "sky ref" who can buzz them down on the field and say, "You got this one wrong. Pick up that flag."

Ridiculous. I’ve already posted a few links that were horrible calls that went in our favor but I’m sure that’s why you have me on ignore, when you can’t admit you’re wrong then it’s easier to ignore someone.

Funny how you just make things up and refuse to acknowledge FACTS that prove you wrong. I could bring up about 5 penalties in the Saints game that went our way last year. The roughing the passer against Dak when playing GB gave us an opportunity to at least tie the game and went in our favor. The non PI call against Engram went in our favor. The PI call against Baker vs Cooper went in our favor. These are just the ones I’ve already brought up, I’m sure there’s many more if I rewatched every game this season.

Well i don’t have any conspiracies just facts. They called calls on us every time we tried to gain momentum. But that’s anyone who plays the Pats.

We all knew this was coming. It really doesn't mean much. It's another Tuesday for any NFL getting a report like this.

I couldn't remember the last time I watched a game with a tripping call. Don't think I've ever seen two.
I was just thinking the same thing. I have rarely have seen a tripping call, and we got two in one game.

I don’t believe in conspiracies.

The refs are incompetent. And the current system as constructed does not allow them to improve and be better at it.

Why are there not more officials on the field to reduce each officials responsibility and what they have to watch?

Why is instant replay and technology utilized more? Why can’t there be officials off the field who can use high definitely video to assist the refs make calls in real time? The technology is easily there to do this.

the NFL is doing a piss poor job of improving the officiating. Again I don’t believe in conspiracies. I do believe that the officiating overall is terrible. I also believe that games shouldn’t be decided by poor calls in either teams direction.

Those two tripping calls were egregious and absolutely terrible calls that shouldn’t have happened. But this isn’t the first time something like that has happened and it won’t be the last.

So does this mean the Cowboys won the game? Cool. I'm still for reviewing penalties or at least being able to challenge them.
Bold> That is the only real avenue for improving the game through officiating, although it has a weak chance of becoming reality. More reviews and challenges of penalties that are currently exempt would not be perfect and would slow games down even more.

However, teams generate enough self-imposed miscues that short-circuit drives offensively. There is little to no logical reason to simply gift opponents with more offensive possessions when the technology exists for reviewing officiating errors. So be it if Dallas is on the downside of a penalty reversal. Making sure calls are correct is completely justifiable and worth augmenting the current review process.

Question of the Day: Should instant replay be implemented for very questionable plays such as those that could decide outcome of the game ? ( as it did Sunday vs Pats)

NFL officiating is getting so worse and worse by the year.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that had the two calls not been made it wouldn't have made any difference in the outcome.

There is no way to say those two calls took points off the board.
nobody knows that...They very well could have scored ...but not getting the chance to find out is the problem...And anything could have happened. Look at the long Cobb pass play...Who's to say that couldn't have happened.
