Heard there were many heavyweight digital fights around here arguing who's better between Carter, Hutchinson, Stoerner, Wright, Leaf, Henson....i dont believe it

I went to training camp in Oxnard back then and posted that Drew Henson has all the physical attributes you want and made every pass. And this UDFA guy Tony Romo didn't - and that I just didn't understand what the coaches saw in the guy.

Are you talking about the old Cowboys message board, character based? With slaneman, Swami, and Mike Wilson? That was the early 1990s I think. We used to have some pretty funny arguments with Packers fans. Anyone remember this?

You're talking about the Usenet forums. I was a lurker (mostly) there through about 2005ish. I emailed one of the regulars from there and asked if there if there were other places to discuss the Cowboys. This was one of the places he suggested. There were two others (I'm guessing The Ranch and Cowboys Zone... are they the same? I could be confused). But, this is the one that stuck/survived.

I got involved with the old Usenet board in 1994. Was my goto for news for nearly a decade. It started to die out because the web is just a better platform for that type of communication. Usenet is essentially dead now. That alt.sports.football.pro.dallas-cowboys group was the first sign I had that it was dying starting about 10-12 years ago.

A couple of months ago, I did a quick search for some people from that group. Found 4-5. One had passed away. There was a lot of comraderie there. Trolls, too, later on. Damn you WebTV!

Can some of you old timers give us some history of the board. Personally. I’ve been here since 07. Left from The Ranch because a member stalked me and actually found me then followed me around town one day LOL. He had a family member who was a local media member who was part of that place that hated me, go figure. Anyways, once I came over here I never went back there or any other Cowboys forum.

IMO CZ is not only the best Cowboys board, but the best Pro Team Fan board on the internet.

With that being said, can some of you old timers give this old timer some history of CZ. Maybe include a few HOF zoners, or worst of all time guys. Longest thread ever, Most discussed ever, most controversial ever that was allowed to stay a while?

What was the best time to be a member? How about worst? I don’t believe the internet was around the last time the Boys one anything worth talking about , so in this thread “moral victory’s and accomplishments” will be fine...

Finally, let’s pay tribute to some of our buddies who have passed on but had good times here..CBZ40 is where the list beings today.

Hey coult44, l remember you from The Ranch board. I left there because it just became too confrontational and the mods either couldn't, or didn't have the power, to control it. There's alot of ex-ranchers here now. This is a great board with some really good people. It was good to see you come over.

I use to go back and forth from here to The Ranch, but one of the last times l was over there, one of the posters was using some extreme racial language. Needless to say, l don't read or post there at all anymore...

Most of us originals came from the Reality run "thecowboys.net" board...

Been here since the beginning and it was a wild ride to begin with. A lot of these names I hadn't thought about in some time. I served as a mod for a few years and got to see the salty side of some of the membership...

I, like many others here in the beginning, were members of several other boards such as the Ranch (good ol' Roy Philpott), the cesspool that was the FWST board. You had to wear a HazMat suit to post on there, DMN and others...

Members such as Hostile, Juke99, Dale, Reality, Brainpaint, WoodysGirl, the late great CBZ (RIP Pops), Yeagermeister, casmith07, MichaelWiniki, Thumper, bbgun, Crazy Cowboy, adbuther, CowboyJoe and many more have a 15+ year association with trying to fix the Cowboys...

Some good memories...

For those of you that didn't know, CBZ40, or Pops, was the conscience of this board for many years and beloved by everyone. When he passed of cancer, many of us zoners chipped in and bought him a paver at the new stadium...

He always said Good Morning to everyone which was replied to by "Morning Pops!", thus the Morning Pops! thread in the Members Zone in his memory...

RIP, Pops...

You would never know it by my post count, but I was here pre-'04 for a few years, but cant remember exactly...I was part of "the ranch", but I cant remember all the transitions to what you see today. I know the site as you see it relaunched around April 23, 2004 under this new format. Several of us were also on the KFFL boards way back in the day under the same names, though many seem to have moved on, changed names, or my memory has began to escape me. I know @tyke1doe was on the KFFL boards...was sorry to see that site get bought out and the message boards disappear which is ultimately how this became my go-to board, spending more of my time reading/posting here...:(

Anybody used to post on Cowboys Guide?

That was my go-to forum before coming here. Can't remember my username, to be honest.

LOL, I actually put someone on ignore that was insulting me. Then brought up that my likes to posts ratio was why my post to him didn't mean anything. He said since my ratio was bad I must be stupid. I explained to him, first I didn't care, and then about many on here posted long before that feature started.
I think my ratio was about 50% at that time.

He didn't like it, and called me ignorant, so he went on ignore.
I've seen other posters claim you're a noob if your likes to posts were small. Never made sense.

Don't know how I found this site and I don't know where I got my Cowboys messages before, but I joined in April 2004. I normally don't post. I just read. As I've gotten older I find myself losing interest in the Cowboys, which when I was younger would have been unheard of. I guess when years of just being "okay" is the best you're going to be then what's the point and even when the Cowboys do have a good year you know it won't matter once they get to the playoffs.

But over the years there have been some wonderful debates between posters about Jones on down. The mods do a great job on keeping it as civil as possible.

Yep... I don't post much anymore, I lurk mostly. I had 30,000 posts when the Like System was integrated. It's been pointed out to me I have few likes and must not know anything when someone doesn't like one of my posts... lol

I still remember, before we became CZ, the figureheads were Nors, boozeman, etc. Was a lot different back then. I was in college when I joined the board - single, broke, and not getting lucky with women.

Now I have a son graduating high school, a daughter getting her driver's license, not getting lucky with my woman and a mortgage I can't afford. Life comes at you pretty fast but some things never change.

How the heck is "boozeman" not censored here?

Not being snarky but a serious question, why do you think that? I know the "like" feature is a big thing in the now social media society we live in. It's a very interesting aspect on how it affects how people use and view things. I personally don't mind as pretty much every message board has this now. But some boards go further and have a "dislike" button. And they post your stats in terms of amounts of likes and dislikes you have gotten in total. That would definitely be interesting on here haha.

In my opinion the problem with the 'likes' feature is that you end up with a lot of posts that aren't real opinions but self serving attempts at garnering 'likes.'

It leads to the polarization of the community.

Edit: i understand completely why it has been implemented here and on other boards though

People think the Dak vs Wentz arguments are annoying, they dont hold a candle to the Quincy vs Hutchinson battle royales. What's funny is neither player could hit the broad side of the barn within 10 feet.

Anyone remember the poster "Latunanostra"? Im pretty certain he/she was either related to Parcells or President of his fan club.
