Urban or Dabo

No need for a McVey'sque hire just because he looks smart calling plays. We need someone who paid his dues and worked at every level and did HC'ing to be good every day of the week, even when on bye week. Someone who can go to every coach on the staff and tell them what to do because they have experience for every position

Actually this is why I think he'd be a top candidate/fit for this team. He would allow Jerry to keep Moore and Kitna and fire the entire defensive and special team staff.

I dont have a problem with a coach keeping someone from this current staff if he finds him to be a fit but what makes anyone think that a new coach wants Moore or Kitna?

I know it's not unheard of for a new coach to keep some of the old faces around for a year or so but say Urban Meyer or anyone for that matter comes in and wants their own staff? It doesnt mean Moore or Kitna didnt do their job but a new coach most likely will want things done his way by his own people.

The offense has moved the ball well but it's still Moores first season on the job and if we bring in a new coach with his own system, I dont know that Moore becomes as valuable since it's going to be all new to him anyway.

Maybe it's just me but I hope whoever replaces Garrett actually replaces the rest of the staff as well. We all say Jerry does too much meddling and is toxic so why would we want a coach to come in and keep Moore or Kitna to appease Jerry or anyone else?

If Garrett is sent out then in my opinion I'd like to see the rest of the staff go as well. Clean house and start over.

From a health standpoint, Can Meyer even withstand the rigors of coaching in the NFL? Can't hire a guy with a two year expiration date.
Both jobs are stressful and require a ton of hours, but NFL head coach has way more time off than a college coach.

In college there's a saying, Recruiting is year round. Even in the dead period, you're meeting about recruiting, evaluating the next class, etc.

In the NFL, scouting is almost year round, but the coaches are only involved a few times a year. Scouts and player personnel handle the "year round" stuff.

Well having the #1 rank offense in the league will make pretty hard any new coach to convince them major change on that side of the ball is needed.....key word here is major.

I would like to keep Moore and Kitna and possibly even Colombo. The rest can go. That way the new coach can focus on the defense and special teams.

But can he maintain his health? Health is why he had to retire...NFL is 12 months a year and 10x the stresz

I agree with your line of thinking here. I guess my logic was more along the lines of, if people want a coach who can come in and change the way things are done and we want Jerry to let a coach have full control, keeping staff to keep Jerry happy or content would send the wrong message.

I understand that the offense as put up numbers that would be hard to argue with. So do you think if say Meyer comes here that Moore is going to continue to have the offense moving the ball this well? I feel like if he is going to keep the job with a new coach it would have to be with an understanding that things are going to be done differently and I wonder how that would effect his game planning/play calling.

Actually my first choice is Mike Tomlin with Meyers a close 2nd. I'm not interested in an offensive or defensive guru as head coach, the coordinators can do that. I want a guy with strong leadership who knows how to motivate players as well as pushing the right buttons. John Harbaugh is that kind of coach. Remember he was a special team coach before getting Ravens HC job. What I like about Tomlin is his ability to adapt. He started his NFL coaching career working under Dungy with a Tampa 2 D. They thought he was going change the Steeler 3-4 D once he was hired but he instead stayed with their 3-4 coz it was working. The only question is whether or not he and Steelers decide it time for a change......they added an extra 1 year to his deal through 2021.

Excellent point. The health factor is the reason why I am currently unsure about hiring Meyer.

Just me but I'm guessing their preference is to keep the 3-4 offensive coaches attached to Dak unless it's Sean Payton. I'm looking for a guy with strong leadership. One who how/when to maximize EVERY player potential on BOTH SIDES of the ball rather than trying force him into a system. This is why I'd favor Meyers over a Riley or McDaniel.

Urban Meyer has the best odds to be the Dallas Cowboys head coach in 2020

Jason Garrett’s tenuous position has the speculation train running.
No odds on Mr. O'Quinn? I guess if there were any it would be what town he'd be opening an Irish pub. I'm going with Boston.

The position of Dallas Cowboys head coach is one that’s being talked a lot about these days. It’s being discussed as if it’s vacant.

Of course, Jason Garrett is the current head coach of the Cowboys but you’re well aware that this is a contract year for him. You also know that Garrett has come under fire since the Cowboys lost on the road against the New England Patriots. Fans are calling for a lot of things.

If the Cowboys brain-trust ultimately does decide to move on from Jason Garrett after this season there will be a lot of interest in who will ultimately take the job next. Our friends at BetOnline have odds for who that person could be, and the front-runner is former Ohio State (and Florida) coach Urban Meyer
