Number 1: I am 100% in favor of Garrett getting fired.

Number 2: Jerry has an obligation to the paying customers to try to put the best product on the field in the remaining 4 games of the 2019.

Number 3: Jerry has an obligation to his employees (the players) to give them the best chance to win games.

Number 4: Despite how bad things have been, the Cowboys are still in first place, and still can make the playoffs.

Firing Garrett in mid-season would not give the players or fans the best chance to win the next 4 games. At the minimum, Jerry needs to wait for the 10 day break, which means waiting until after the Bears game next week. And however bad morale is now, it would be worse if Garrett was fired now.

At this point, Jerry insisting that the Super Bowl is still the goal keeps the players focused on the immediate task before them. To the players, Jerry's continued faith in their talent keeps morale up. To fire Garrett now would be a signal that he is giving up on this year, and giving up on the team.

So, even though I think Jerry is now committed to firing Garrett, it is wise to wait until the Cowboys either miss the playoffs, or lose in the playoffs before pulling the trigger on putting the Garrett era behind us. (But that doesn't mean he cannot start looking for a new coach now. I'm in favor of getting an assistant coach from a championship team, who has been trained in how to coach champions.)

Wrong. It’s been proven time and time again, including with Garrett himself when he took over for Wade, that a coaching change lights a spark.

I would promote Richard. Yeah, the defense hasn’t met expectations but as head coach for 4 games I think he’d light a fire.

I agree with both sides of this argument. So I'm not sure how to argue with anyone on this.

I was all for firing him and promoting Richard on an interim basis but I have changed my mind after hearing Broadus and even RJ Choppy say that you don’t want to have to make a decision based on a coach going 4-0 vs mediocre or bad teams. Don’t muddy the waters, let him finish his contract, and get lost. Then start the search with a clean slate. If they would have fired him after the Jets game and gave Richard 10 games, Might have made more sense then. Not at this point.

The word is Jerry doesn't want to give anyone on the staff a chance to right the ship. He's afraid it will impact his current plans. To be quite honest, as easy as our schedule is, I'm on board w that idea

Doesn’t matter if we hire a “spark” that is Richard anyways. The players priorities aren’t straight. These are things that will need to be corrected in the offseason. There isn’t enough time now to fix it. Plus I doubt Richard could anyways. He can’t get his defense to do it, so what makes you think he can get an entire team off of this celebrity high horse ideal? He cant and won’t.

In most cases I would agree with you, but not in this case.
The players quit on Garrett on Thursday, and know his days are numbered. Their morale is at a crossroads. Jerry needs to remove the problem he created in 2007 by ever hiring Garrett and making it known that he would one day be head coach.
Garrett has never had to earn anything in Dallas, and his leadership shows that.
The Cowboys still believe that they will be successful simply because they show up, and that other teams will succumb to their greatness.
But Garrett knows nothing about greatness, and therefore his players don't, either.
The very instant Garrett is gone, the Cowboys will start to improve.

Jason Garrett doesnt do anything that losing him for the rest of the season would somehow hurt our chances of winning.

If he was our OC or DC then I can see this point.
He is game manager and the assistant coaches are all Jerry hires.

So what does Jason even do here? And how would losing this hurt us?

Either way, the team knows they're playing for lame duck coaches. Keeping Garrett only gives Jerry more time to find a reason to keep his warped version of Landry.

Jason Garrett doesn't deserve this treatment from Jerry . Garrett is one of the most talented coaches in the NFL. While Jerry just gives him a garbage roster, with garbage facilities ; Garrett gives his best & that is not fair .

Garrett will finally be happy in NYC , where they will cover his needs .

While an interim might light a fire , it doesn't really matter because short of a SB it would be a waste of time. This season is over.

That’s a fair point. But - laugh if you want - I still believe there is enough talent on this team to contend and go deep into the playoffs. Coaching has cost us 2 games easy and I could make the case for 3.

How would you feel about this team if we were 9-3?

You know where we are headed with Garrett. And that’s precisely my point. Why not see if fortunes can change with Richard?

I think keeping Garrett is just the lazy and easier thing to do. Jerry doesn’t want to deal with the potential headache of being pressured to keep the interim coach on, if he does light that fire and the team does well

The solution to this is make RM the interim HC. He's ready to retire and has no desire to be a fulltime HC.

I just don't think there is a coach currently on the team that could get us deep into the playoffs. They might be able to win the East. Garrett might do that although that's looking less and less likely. I'm not really sold on Richard after this year. If we were 9-3 I'd still give Garrett an ultimatum to get to the NFCCG. That's what I said before the season began. I do think there is talent on this team although I don't think it's as great as some do. If we had a new coach I think he could turn it around quickly. Problem is Jerry. He's the biggest obstacle to our success.

#1 - agreed, already overdue.
#2 - when has Jerry ever cared about the fans?
#3 - retaining Garrett doesn't give the Cowboys their best chance of winning. A interm HC will get a jump start on assistant coach and roster evaluation.
#4 - making the playoffs isn't the goal, winning the Super Bowl is. This team won't achieve that goal this year. Saying their are in 1st place at 6-6 is a joke.
