Part of our problem is we are the Dallas Cowboys. With that comes instant celebrity. Instantly everywhere you go everyone tells you how great you are. Without a coach like Parcells, Jimmy J, Harbaugh, Bilechek type players start to believe it will be enough to help them win.

Please tell me "Harbaugh" is John Harbaugh. If you lumped Jim Harbaugh in with those other three you should probably put down the pipe.

I think the "J" was from "Jimmy J"...............which doesn't essentially change your point, but I thought it should be clarified.

There are a lot of talented players on this team. The problem is where we don't have talent. Safety, DT, and ST.

And in your first 2 examples, just flat out refuse to upgrade them. I know we can’t have pro bowlers at all positions but the all out resistance to acknowledging the DT inferiority is mind boggling. Look at the 49ers front 4 and u will see a coaching staff and front office that GETS IT!

No one can coach our defensive personnel to a SB. It’s time for a new direction, but this team won’t go anywhere until it finds better safeties, better DT’s, and top 10 TE. We are not average at these positions. It’s why we struggle on 3rd down and in the red zone on offense and why our defense is so poor. Our DTs, S’s, and TE’s are among the worst in the NFL.
Its a good thing its a team sport then.

Our defensive personnel isnt great however the entire team personnel is good enough and better than many teams that went to the superbowl.
We all want better safeties and DT's. Saying the roster is good enough to achieve so much more isnt saying the roster is bullet proof in every position.
It is simply saying that top level coaching staffs have taken rosters with less talent to greater places.

In the modern NFL you will have holes in several positions on your team no matter who you are. Salary cap, Free agency creates this problem for everyone.
Take a look at Seattle's roster and you will see my point.

Sorry, I don't buy hype; I observe then arrive at logical conclusions. They brought back essentially the same team that got undressed by the Rams last season. The glaring holes at DT and S went unfilled in the off season. Our RB missed the entire training camp and preseason. Why did anyone think this team would somehow be better this year? I am not one bit surprised by this season.

I did have higher hopes for LB and OL units, but the LBs regressed and getting Frederick back did little to improve the OL.

Don’t disagree that coaching matters. McVay with all the talent in the world this year, not doing so well either.

I do think Garrett is a problem and a big one. I also think the underperformers on the team will get a bit of a free pass by having all the blame on the HC.
I cant argue with that too much. I lean more on putting blame on the coaches, but nothing you said is really wrong. I guess we will see in 2020 how much of the issue is coaching vs the players.

I realize that, but we're short at some of the more vulnerable places.

Without a push up the middle, it's very hard to pressure the QB or stuff the run.
Without good safeties, we're vulnerable to pretty much everything.
Without at least respectable ST, we lose the field position battle every damn time.
I agree that we would all love to have a roster void of any weaknesses.
Just like Buffalo would. Take a look at the Seahawks roster and tell me they don't have way more holes than we do.
Pete Carroll isnt blaming his less than stellar players talent levels. He is coaching and scheming to win regardless. Putting guys in positions to succeed.

In the NFL worst to first and first to worst is a yearly thing around the league. Its not because team lost their talent or acquired tons more talent. Its because the coaches put the guys in positions to succeed.

I believe I was called a negative Dak hater after warning we needed to wait to see how they did over the next stretch of games after the 3-0 start.

Obvious holes at S, DT, and to a lesser extent TE. aside from that I dont see a single position where I'd say the cowboys are below average talent wise.

I almost feel like this team is the Jeff Fisher led Rams. I remember back to how bad some of those players were, gurley include . The year mcvay gets there they are instant super bowl contenders. Coaching matters.
exactly. Look at the niners under Harbaugh. 3 straight NFC championships, 1 superbowl. As soon as he leaves they become the laughing stock of the league for several seasons.

TE, DT, and Safety are key positions for success in football. These are terrible positions to be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I agree, you can't have stars everywhere. What I'm saying is we have (or at least had) 3 stars at LB, several DEs, 3 WRs, but average to below average S and DT.....ST is likely completely on the coaching.

S and DT are positions at which we should have better talent. We could get away more easily with one less talented LB, DE, and WR. I'm not even asking for superstars at those positions, just respectable, solid players.

They're like any other team, in that they want the fans to believe in them. That's what sells tickets and merchandise. As for us falling for the hype, I think only the most optimistic went all in. A good portion of us just hoped....and still do.
It's the only realistic thing a fan can do - root for the team and hope for the best.
Do I want my team to win? Hell yes.
Will they? I don't know.
That's why they play the game!

Again this fan base bought into the hype from everyone. I think we forgot how bad this team was last year until Copper showed up. It's clear now that this team is no where near as talented as the hype machine said they were. Very average roster, and some really bad spots that this team has never tired to fix
I think you over-reached with that assessment of "The fan base."

Please. Safety and TE's are 2 of the least drafted positions in the game.
How many TE's and Safeties are jumping off the draft board in the top of the first round?
Look at how many teams and how little a guy like the Honey Badger signed for. Where was the Earl Thomas bidding war? Look at Eric Weddle.

Stop pretending our holes are somehow in key positions when they are actually in position most of the league puts a lower priority on.

This team maxes out as a 8-10 win team under Garrett. 2016 and 2014 were flukes...you can never expect them to really come out and dominate a regular season to earn a top NFC seed. That's why they can never make the playoffs in back-to-back years. When the expectations are higher coming off a playoff appearance and they get a 1st place schedule, they always flop the following year.

They went 5-1 in the division in 2017 and missed the playoffs. They could do that again this season. That's embarrassing
