That would make for some headlines in the offseason, wouldn't it? Jerry does love the media coverage.

At his age, this will be his last opportunity to realistically win another super bowl in his lifetime. He's got to go all in with a big name head coach.

Brian Kelly or Matt Rhule will be the next HC. There’s no really big fish to hire. Saban and Belichick is not coming, Dabo is not a big fish, neither is Sean Peyton. Shaw from Stanford is not leaving. I say Kelly because he I great with QBs and a offensive mind he demands excellence from himself his staff and his players and he’s use to playing in a high profile place with a lot of pressure to win. Rhule because he had to go into a high profile place clean up and turn around a place and he’s a very good defensive person.
The key is will Jerry let them hire and fire their own staff
Rhule id be okay with. Kelly strikes me as another Garrett. Can’t win when he has less talent.

For him to come here and deal with this circus would cost a lot more than 10 a year

10 years, $250M plus have it in the contract that coaches meetings, team meetings, and press conferences are players and coaches only. Coach gets to hire his own staff and has the power to bench and cut players.

Some random thoughts....

No way Belechick will be here for even $1 billion. Bill B is essentially the GM in NE....anyone think Jerry surrenders that title? Not happening.

As several have said in this thread, why would any of us expect Jerry to hire a big name guy? He’s hired 6 head coaches since Jimmy left- Switzer, Gailey, Campo, Parcells, Phillips and Garrett. Two were big names- Parcells and Switzer although he was barely more than a figurehead.

My point is, what EVIDENCE do we have Jerry goes against his pattern of hiring “yes men” as opposed to top shelf coaching talent? Most opinions I see are FAN HOPE. I would love to see a top coach hired. But based on Jerry’s history, ego and fear of sharing “credit” I have a healthy dose of skepticism that Jerry wakes up and hires a top shelf HC. . I would love to be convinced otherwise.

He said “push all the chips to the middle of the table and not take no for an answer”.

A bigger name than Riley? Just convincing Riley would be an extraordinary feat so this would be bigger than big. It’s not Urban; he already said he’d take the job.

It’s not Belichick. He’s under contract and has the perfect situation in New England. No amount of money (he has plenty) is going to get him to leave. And, getting him or Payton, even if they agree, would require draft picks.

I think that it’s Nick Saban. The Jones have a great relationship with him and he has been consulting with them on and off.

Yeah, Saban flamed out in Miami but this is a different situation. He’d bring discipline to this team immediately.

Who else qualifies that’s bigger than Riley? I’d like to fantasize that it’s bringing back Jimmy Johnson but we all know that’s not happening.

edit: just saw the new tweets from Broaddus; maybe it is Payton after all. But the draft picks we’d have to give up would set this franchise back years.

Nick Saban is the Bill Belichick of college football. He has built a perennial winner at Alabama through great coaching and the ability to attract THE best talent year-in and year-out. I really respect Saban but truly wonder how he would translate to the pro game.

How about Kitchens? I heard he was doing wonders for the Browns. They beat a winning team this year.

I would love to see Meyer here, to me that's a safe & smart move, but there's a nagging thought going through my head.
Jerry's a gambler & loves the sizzle of making daring moves. Winning football games is not what really drives Jerry. It would not surprise me if some off-the-radar HC or OC from the college ranks ultimately gets the job. Kellen Moore would then be given an assistant HC title, Richard would named DC after Marinelli "retires", and JJ & Stephen would be all smiles at the presser announcing it.
That's my nightmare scenario.

I can’t believe bellichek would come unless it’s time Brady retires and it’s finally over the pats run. I still can’t see it. I think it’s urban Meyer. As long as it ain’t Jeff fisher

And this is why he would never come here
