Jerry should grab his baseball hat and start coaching the team himself.

There's no guarantee firing JG would spark the team. It would definitely spark the fan base.

Weird thing is, even at 6-7 the Cowboys would still hold first in the East even if Philly wins Monday. I suspect Jerry would stick with JG, at least for another week.

If this team backs into the playoffs, I won't have that much confidence that they can beat anyone. I guess you never know. It is the NFL where weird stuff can happen, but I'm not holding my breath for them to suddenly start playing like a championship team.

We’d still be a first place team at that point. They won’t make a coaching change while the season is on the line.

By firing their HC now to give life and spark the team.

Tough decision made by Panthers owner over a former SB coach and NFL coach of the year.

But as owner you’re always looking for that spark once you sense the coaches fate after the season.
Not happening.

But should they if it continues spiraling down in an effort to save it?

I agree. About the worst thing to happen to the Cowboys this year is the Eagles - and the NFC East as a whole - being so, so bad this year. That's the only thing that's allowed this mediocre, underachieving team the abi,it's to stay in 'first place'. As a result, it's continued to muddle the thinking and approach that the team has with the head coach. That and the fact that there's no better option on staff anyway.

This thing could go Hindenburg and there won't be a head coaching change made until after the season.

If they lose tomorrow night, just let the dumpster fire burn out and clean house in January. There has been no spark in any phase of this team for over two months. I would not be inclined to promote someone running a crappy unit on this team unless cheerleading or food and beverage may have some unknown bright spot to be called upon.
The players are equally culpable with this mess of a season.

I see what you're saying but they really are two different situations.

1) Dallas can lose and still make the playoffs. They could even lose twice if one isn't to Philly

2) Dallas has a coach (Kris Richard) on their team that some (right or wrong) consider a possible HC candidate.
He would be the most likely interim head coach for the final few games. But teams often rally around the new guy (remember Garrett?) and if they win a few, that guy becomes the locker-room favorite. It could affect the search process.

Unless everyone just quits playing for Garrett like they did with Wade, they'll probably ride this out.

It shouldn't effect the search process . Most of all I’m more interested in making the most of this season.

And if Richards led us to a championship wouldn’t we be interested in retaining him as HC?

Of course. But I find that unbelievably unlikely.

We will lose tomorrow night, but I wouldn't bet on a firing to happen. If the Jets/Buffalo/Pats games didn't get him fired, the Bears/Rams games won't get him fired either.

That doesn’t help you. I know everybody wants to think the issue has been coaching, but the issue hasn’t been the coaching. There’s not another coach on the roster who gets you an advantage in the playoff stretch. The sort of dead-cat bounce you get when a coach is tired and guys are playing harder for their jobs next season under the new coach isn’t going to work for a playoff run. You’ll just introduce a bunch of variables at a time in the season when you can’t really afford the distraction.

The situation in Dallas isn’t at all like what is going on in Carolina. Nobody has ever fired a coach of a first place team mid-season that I can think of. Can you?

I’m not sure why we’d follow or support Jerry’s rhetoric?

And yes I’d agree he’s looking for ways to keep him but it’s a winless battle. Jerry can’t save Jason. He’s already damaged that opportunity. I believe beyond repair.
My support of Garrett has been misunderstood by some. Those who have been following me for years have a clearer understanding the root of my support which is based on the fact I’ve had little hope a better solution was possible.

And I’m still not sold firing Garrett will resolve our issues until Jerry is willing to step away.

But this situation is different. It’s become too toxic knowing Garrett is now gone and is not in the best interest for success the remainder of this season.
nothing misunderstood. You just keep altering the angle to try and avoid admitting you were wrong.
Now it looks more and more like Garrett’s getting fired.

So your trying to get out in front of it. Which is way too late. Your not fooling anyone.

it’s not that your misunderstood, it’s just that no one is buying it.

I dont even know if going 6-10 and him missing the playoffs and the Commanders winning the division would be enough to fire Garrett

they should, but you're probably right. they won't. the message should be multiple, directed both at coaches and players.

Nope ........ But our idiot owner fired a coach who won him a Superbowl 2 months earlier.

Touche.

I think it’s pretty obvious: Jason gets to play out the string and then we get a new coach. A Super Bowl appearance saves him, but that won’t happen if we can’t fix the TO differential issue and can’t fix STs. And it looks like we’re standing pat on STs unless we use the coming ten day break to make some moves.
