Brady did it after winning multiple Super Bowls. That's a bit different.

And since Jerry is the one and only incurable malignancy of this franchise, he's not the barometer for anything.
Football players are different now. This guy would have been a top 5 pick if he did get injured. He took a discount to stay here so he can have his business. I applaud him. Ray Lewis had plenty of business ventures outside football. You can practice your craft and have other businesses.

“I want you to run fast as I tell you and jump as high as I want”.......stop monitoring what these guys do outside of the field. Michael Irvin snorted cocaine and didn’t hurt his career.

I thought using you position as a Dallas Cowboy was an awesome way of supplementing your income allowing you to sign a much more team friendly deal.

Like Dak, he's a Christian. All proceeds from Dak's bow-ties go to the Amercan Cancer Society in his mom's name. Two standout kids to say the least.

:)

I’m not a Christian but I like to pretend to be when I’m dealing with Christians. Easy pickings.

Agree with everything except discount.

After his signficant drop in performance this year it's hard to say he took a discount (he basically struck when his value was at it's peak, that's not a discount that just his agent being smart)

Rather a business near the facility than making it rain at a strip joint I suppose.

Jaylon stinks but Jerruh likes him so whatever. I wish Sean Lee could have broken away from this place he so deserves an NFL title. I would love to hear what Lee would say about Jaylon if he were able to speak candidly.

We all marveled at the attitude and spirit Jaylon Smith displayed as rehabbed one of the most difficult to overcome injuries imaginable for a football player. How can you not love a guy like that. You can't.

But where is his mind today, amidst a pretty lackluster year from the just-paid middle linebacker.

I've heard it mentioned by numerous on-air radio people locally - Broaddus, Archer, Dennis, and others - that Jaylon routinely conducts business meetings at The Star before and after practice. He puts a ton of time everyday into growing his upstart eyeglasses and massage ventures.

We're not talking once a week. It's almost every day, openly in front of his teammates at the Cowboys facilities. These meetings are not quick updates, but rather involved conference room discussions with mulitiples of people that can last for hours.

Freshly paid in advance of the end of his rookie deal, has football become a mere hobby to support his greater business interests?

I love an entrepreneurial mind. Always fascinating people, they are. I also commend him for not squandering his money on depreciating garbage as is traditionally typical of young millionaire athletes. But I also believe in prioritization and focus, especially toward where your bread is being buttered the most.

The Cowboys deserve 99% of his professional focus right now after paying him handsomely when they didn't yet have to. Granted, I probably wouldn't look askew at this if his play on the field was better. It'd probably be more of an interesting tidbit if it was.

But Jaylon looks like he's on roller skates a lot, over-pursuing plays and getting roasted in coverage. Combine that with iffy play from Vander Esch, too, and it looks like we have a couple of damaged goods at linebacker who aren't ready, or perhaps fully committed, to be great NFL linebackers.

Jaylon's effort and attitude on Sundays is not in question. But what about his preparation from Monday through Saturday?

The guy avoids contact like no other LB I have ever seen. In Dallas the focus is on marketing and optics rather than winning football so it’s par for the course.

The highest paid linebacker in the league Mosely has played two games this year. Coming off a season like Smith had last season, he could have not signed the extension. For a linebacker of his skill his contract is reasonable. He is playing below average this year but is still one of the league leaders in tackles. You may disagree but he is one of our better players and he is locked up. When decide to actually give him and LVE some help with defensive tackles, we can actually see them cause havoc.

And he's investing in minority entrepreneurs in his home town who might not get investment otherwise. The dude is a supremely good role-model for anyone on top of being a good player who is suffering from bad interior linemen and maybe a little slump.

Wouldn't of mattered. Unlike Smith he actually has an established history (making the all pro team 4x). Injury would of sucked but he would of easily surpassed Jaylons contract in 2020 if he hadn't signed the deal with the Jets

I don't disagree that he isn't a good player, i'm disagreeing that he took a hometown discount (getting top 3 money for 1 good season isn't taking a discount, it's called striking when the iron is hot)
A discount???? His contract is patently absurd.
Yeah giving someone top 3 money at any position isn't "taking a hometown discount".

Especially when the 2 guys ahead of you pay wise have a combined 9 apperances on the all-pro team (LMAO at discount)

Jaylon's career will be similar to that of most talented starters somewhere around ten years. It will be over in the bat of an eye. Ten years is nothing compared to the 30 years after.

Most of the time, an ex-NFL player's future career success will depend on what he did as a player. Super Bowl champions have far better opportunities.

If Jaylon was smart, he would concentrate on football exclusively and capitalize on a Hall of Fame career. If this team accomplishes nothing them no one is going to remember Jaylon ten years from now. Who will care about his eyeglasses then?

Thank you. And it’s sad people will try to make a bad thing out is what he’s doing. Jaylons journey is bigger than football.

I watched him on the QB sneak against the Bills.

That was enough. I am thru with this guy. Let him do all his business at home and cut this business man.

Then perhaps he should play for league minimum instead of being one of the highest paid players on the team.

Having side business interests is fine, but he shouldn't be conducting meetings at The Star between practice sessions. There is a film room over there, you know, and time to use it instead.

He's a full-time football player, not a linebacking consultant.

I believe access to The Star and people Jerry knows was a big part of Jaylon's deal. He opened one of his spas at The Star, and Jerry gives him business advice. Probably invested in his businesses, too.

Somewhat a genius way to "pay" somebody without affecting the cap. Tom Brady has a similar deal. But it also can be a distraction to football.

I prefer football players that think football almost exclusively. I thought that was Jaylon at first. Now, I don't think so.

I could have told you this while he was rehabbing. All the "Clear Eye View" nonsense. The dude was looking for a trademark from jumpstreet.

Honestly I can no longer stand behind this bum. The dude avoids contact like a 2025 Tesla will someday.

Tired of watching him scamper after someone arms flailing to mask the fact he can't sidestep at all. The guy plays like he's on his own patch of ice.

Agreed. I think Jaylon knew he reached his peak and couldnt play that way consistently his leg the way it is. He probably felt something was off or regressed in camp. Better sign now before the cat is out of the bag.
