6-10 can win this division

We've never made the playoffs at 7-9. The year we went to the SB, we were 9-7 and wound up hosting the Eagles for the NFC Championship. You're probably talking about the year we lost to the Panthers with good old Ryan Lindley. We were 10-6 that year. What an awful, awful game.

Yup. It was Seattle that won the year I was thinking of.

The division winners should get that home game. Team record isn't apples to apples because everyone doesn't play each other. A division winner who is 8-8 because they are in a stacked division and then played two other deep divisions that year shouldn't lose a home playoff game because of a 10 win team that's gets gifted 6 easy wins in a cupcake division.

If the records are 6-10 neither philly or dallas will even win their first playoff game. Best for philly to win so dallas will get a higher pick in the draft. I believe if you make the playoffs the highest seed in the draft is around position 20. Not making the playoff with the identical record you could be properly 5 to 8 picks higher.

This, ---- at 6-10 you don't need to make the PO PERIOD.

It's a travesty that any of these sorry teams will qualify for the playoffs over clearly far more worthy teams in other divisions.

The NFL should prevent such scenarios by putting minimum qualifications in place for playoff appearances. Maybe make a rule that all playoff teams must have a minimum of 8 wins to qualify for post season. That way if a division winner is not at least .500, then that spot is essentially open as another wildcard spot.
I doubt that the NFL ever thought one division could could be this bad.

no my best guess is 9-7 takes it..i believe teams have won divisions on occasions with ugly records..im curious what was the worst record by a division winner in history? I know recent history I believe the rams may have won a division at 7-9 I think they also had home game and beat the saints maybe?

crazy thing can happen so getting in is all that matters..

IF that happened, they'd finish at .500 minimum, so it would make my proposal irrelevant. But, what if they don't? You're ok with a sub .500 division winner making the post season, and hosting a game, while a potentially 10-6 or 11-5 team sits at home?
Yes. They didn't win their division and didn't win a wild card spot. Let's not act like Dallas hasn't had a winning record and miss the playoffs before. Hell Seattle was 7-9 won their division and beat the Saints in the wild card when they had double digit wins and was projected to crush Seattle.

There are a few examples of teams winning a division with a losing record. It's pretty rare though.

Yes, I'm fine with that.

The way the schedules are done, the most objective evaluation of who is the "best team" happens when comparing the 4 teams within the same division.

Even if you say all 4 teams in the NFCE absolutely suck, think about what that means in the AFC playoff race. One division played the NFCW while another got to play the NFCE. If you diminish the NFCE champ, the you need to diminish the AFCE's wins they got playing them.

Well, we are really reaching.
That's like saying Hoda Kotb can win a beauty pageant. What's the point?

Imagine winning the SB with a 6-10 record.

Get hot going into the playoffs on a losing streak.

That is top 5 cringeworthy of the world.
LMAO, if they won the SB, they'd be 10-10 and we'd stop *****ing about Garrett being .500.

If we're going to have a 6-10 division winner, I vote for the Skins. First team in the playoffs without a HC. Another Snyder Award.

Any team but the skins. I live in DC and have to deal with those idiots.

The point is the playoff spot awarded to the division winner is the only completely objective spot awarded. No griping about level of opponent, etc.

It has stirred up the seeding system situation again, shades of the old Saints-Seahawks playoff game. The defenders said "well, the Seahawks won it so all is right with the world" totally ignoring the fact the Saints had the best home record that year.

I don't even like the division set up. If I were Commish, I would do away with them. 16 teams, every team plays the other 15 plus their "rival team". The Cowboys' would be HOU because I would regionalize and reorganize the two conferences. Top 6 to the playoffs and the SB would never be a rematch. The intraconference games would be the preseason games, if they just have to have them.

Whichever team wins the East this year doesn't deserve a home game. And they should have to play the game in their pajamas, no pads.

I like regional divisions.

Start with Steelers, Browns, Bills and Lions - then work out from there. :D
