Keeping Garrett is a slap in the face to every Cowboys fan and has been every season since 2007.
I don't know how many times fans will continue to take being slapped.
But Jerry doesn't deserve the Cowboys or fan support if he keeps Garrett this time.

This old man that goes to the local bar has long talked about his contacts with the Cowboys and says he personally knows Garrett. His stories are believable over the years as they are correct many times. I should add that he is not a drunk, usually has no more that two beers, while I have as many as I can fit down my neck.

Anyway, tonight we are talking Cowboys and he told me he has it on good authority that Jerry told Garrett that if he wins out he will get a new contract. He said winning in the playoffs would not be a condition.

The old guys knows I hate Garrett, we have discussed that for a few years and he understands why the fans are sick of him. But, he says he knows him and he backs him all the way.

If this is true it goes to show that Jerry really is not interested in winning big, but only interested in keeping his organization as is. As long as the Cowboys have a winning record and seemingly have a chance Jerry is happy. It is all about the fans deep pockets.

I'm sorry but I put about as much credence in this unnamed old man as I do when I read articles where the author uses "unnamed sources" and tell him this or that. What are this unnamed old man connections to the Cowboys and how does he know Garrett. Here's another reason I question this. To many former coaches have said that especially during the season coaches have no time to socialize and don't even have time to spend much time with their families getting home late at night and leaving before everyone else in the house in the morning. I seriously doubt Garrett takes off time to talk to this old man.

Well that keeps the Dallas Cowboys in the news and Jerry doesn't care about winning I've always said that as long as the Dallas Cowboys are in the news Win Lose or Draw or go in the toilet the media attention brings sales

I get that Jerry is a big issue. I get that him making money is a priority to him. So I agree on what you are saying. I don't get your allegiance to JG though. I did for a bit but I have yet to see in all these years where what he has brought to the table has done anything great for us. I just don't. In fact I'd say that this season is showing many things we discussed years ago with Romo teams...slow starts, not adjusting etc. That isn't a cut at you, as you know. I just don't get it unless what you are saying is no matter what happens with Garrett, Jerry will still ruin a new guy. Could be true but doesn't mean JG is a good coach.

Basically, I think the stuff Garrett isn’t good at is very visible and gets a lot of attention, but it’s not the stuff that’s all that important in winning games. And to be fair, Garrett has actually won a lot of games relative to the rest of the market.

Where he hasn’t had success is in beating multiple very good teams in a row. Ie, later in the playoffs. And I think there are ways his organization handicap him that show up in those extreme circumstances.

I also think we’ve drawn some bad matchups and had some bad luck—and poor officiating—in those games that didn’t make things easier.

And I’m not allied with Garrett. I think he gets criticized really unfairly, a lot. But there are better all-around coaches out there. I’m all for upgrading if a clearly better candidate is available. Where we probably differ is on which candidates are actually better.

Nobody is holding a gun to your head saying you have to claim to be and continue to be a Cowboys fan.

I accept that you don't agree with the coach.

I have always been curious if there is ever a point where you will just admit to yourself, "you know what, I was totally wrong about this guy. He's just an average head coach..........."

I know you've said if they miss the playoffs this year they need to make a change but I think you'd still think Garrett is some really good coach just hurt by the circumstances here.

I’ve answered this before, but the mistake you make is thinking there’s something in his record that justifies reevaluating whether or not he can coach. He can. He wins games. At a higher rate than most. He builds teams. He’s done it with multiple QBs. The thing he hasn’t done is get his team to advance farther in the playoffs.

And in my opinion there are reasons for that that mostly aren’t related to coaching. So I’m not looking at our recent history the way you are and saying there’s been an issue coaching. No matter what happens after this season, I’ll still think Garrett is an effective coach. He just won’t have delivered in a key situation where he had to. But I’ll expect him to go elsewhere and have some success for the same reason he was successful here.

And I’ll expect we’ll still be limited when it comes to winning the big games the way we have been since Jimmy left and the salary cap was put in place. And that you guys will he blaming the coach or the QB for it and paying lip service to the actual cause again after a season or two when Riley or whoever it is comes in and has some limited success.

I know this will not be a popular opinion but that has never stopped me from opining before so here’s my two cents.

I have said all along that Garrett was not on the hot seat. Jerry is not looking to get rid of Jason. He is like an adopted son to Jerry. I did NOT believe the hype earlier this year when people kept saying that its SB or bust or NFCCG or bust earlier this year. Jerry’s comments have consistently backed that school of thought, until recently.

I believe that Jerry HAS become very pissed off over losing the last few games. I think Jerry KNOWS this is a talented team which has under achieved and he knows a part of that is coaching.

I believe that Jerry is FINALLY considering options but he’s not the kind of guy to throw the baby out with the bathwater. While many of you hate Garrett, he has been the most successful coach in many years for the Cowboys. That’s not lost on Jerry.

I do not believe Garrett has to win a super bowl, NFCCG nor even probably have to win a game in the playoffs, although I think a single playoff win would assure he is coming back next year.

If we win the NFCE I think Garrett stays, no matter how we get the NFCE Championship. It would be the first back to back winner in many years.

I think there are certain circumstances where Jerry would keep Jason even if he does NOT win the NFCE. If officiating was perceived to keep up out of the playoffs, I don’t think he would hold that against Garrett.

i know that won’t be popular here, but I honestly think that’s the general thinking right now. Although I will say this: Jerry is considering options more right now than he has in the past.

Be careful which coach you want to saddle up. We could end up with someone worse for 10 years. For all his shortcomings, Garrett ain't the worst we could have.

So what does "win out" mean? Win all the rest of the regular season games? Or does it mean win the Super Bowl?

I suspect the first sentence means win the Super Bowl, and the second means he can't just win a playoff game or two or even lose the Super Bowl, which bolsters what the first sentence means.

Anyway, they aren't winning the SB, barring an incredible string of luck, like Jackson, Brees, Rodgers, Mahomes and Goff all go out with season ending injuries and Dak getting hot like Flacco or Foles did.

In which case I'd still be okay with keeping Garrett, I'm so desperate for another SB win, however we get it....
Win out the regular season is what he said. Losing the first playoff game, Garrett would still get a new contract.

I kinda think the refs have an agenda against Dallas. No facts to back up my feelings and probably just my bias towards Dallas coming thru but it just seems like it. I know wah, wah wah.

If that is a *requirement* for Garrett to be rehired, and not just one possible path to another contract, then if we lose tonight, Garrett is gone.

Go Bears!

There is no fear that this loser of a coach will "win out". By the looks of things, it's more likely he'll lose out. A fitting end to a wasted decade.
