Troy: "No Coordinator has Earned the Right to be the Interim Head Coach"

Its a really good point. Marinelli was a terrible head coach, largely because he refused to change and make adjustments. Same tired scheme here. Richard was a cast off by Seattle for a reason, yet they don't miss a beat. Looks like hes calling the plays, which makes you wonder if it's Marinelli's scheme or he's just a bad play caller. Moore has had some stupid situational calls and offense cant find consistent flow. I kind of understand if you dont have confidence in the other coaches and choose to retain Garrett through the rest of the season. However, someone needs to be held accountable, bench players, fire assistants. Just make any change to show you're focused on getting better.

Outside of Garrett not being an xs and os coach this staff is piece mealed together with coaches of different philosphies and approaches to the game. Whoever is the next coach let him bring his guys so there's at least consistency.

I mean he's right, the only guy who is qualified to take over is on a 17 game losing streak as a head coach.

Moore is too green and maybe Richard is too, frankly. Also as a guy whose arrow was pointing up at one time why would Richard want to take over as a 3 game lame duck coach who likely would be shown the door at the end as well? Why would he even want to?

There isn't one guy that deserves to be interim coach Troy, BUT cant keep this disease around anymore - just on principle alone.

I can't imagine any of the coaches from the head coach Garrett down to the lowest assistant getting a job offer to coach anywhere in the NFL next year. College maybe but not the NFL.

Again, you don't fire a second-generation career-long Cowboy before the end of the season. That makes your organization look awful and affects how potential coaches will perceive your ownership.
After 23+ years, this is what you come up with. This organization is a complete insanity run circus! JJ will never get a real HC until he gives up control. Firing JG now or after the season is irrelevant.

Because Richard is awful too.
lol how can he be judged? He isn't the DC, it isnt his scheme, he hasn't been drafting players, all he does
is coach within marinelli's scheme and call the plays that are marinelli's plays.

As for what Troy said, that was stupid, how does one earn the right?? They all work under JG, like
kellen, he uses JG's playbook , and JG comes up with the game plan, or heads up that plan.

Being HC is more about being a leader, than being the oc or dc. So no one knows if richard would be a
good leader or not. I would give him a test run for last 3 games and possible playoffs.

Here's my thoughts for what it's worth.

Imagine this scenario. JG gets let go tomorrow. Rod too. Kris is promoted. We lose to the Rams, then beat the Eagles and Commanders. Win the division but lose in the Wildcard game. Now there is the potential that JJ looks at Kris and thinks, there is the coach we needed. He righted the ship and took us to the playoffs. Never mind the fact that both teams we beat were bad.

Is it worth this risk? Seems illogical I know, but honestly I don't even want to run the risk of something like this happening. Maybe if I knew he would have Rod take over, as I think there is no way he would get hired on as HC.

I think JJ went into the year thinking JG was gone. Maybe JG wants out. Or JJ thought he could get Payton next year. I mean if he really wanted to keep Garrett, the smart move says fire Rod to shake things up. Richard should have taken over after that Packers game. Or make a trade for Ramsey at the deadline. Something to show confidence in your HC. Heck, he could have let Maher go and brought someone else in this week just to make a statement. Seems like JJ overrulled JG there. So maybe this was his plan all along. Pay him his final year and move on to a sexier name like Lincoln or Meyer, or Harbaugh.

Our only hope at this point is to start fresh. And I for one would rather sacrifice this year, then risk any of these coaches coming back next year.

Who cares? We don’t care about an assistant coach earning the right. We care about Garrett being gone so we can look for a real coach.

I stole this from the game thread but marinelli should be the pick if Garrett is fired in season. That way, there will be no question about the interim label.

Discuss....

Totally irrelevant that no one has *earned* being interim HC.

The relevant question is who is best to lead the team for the rest of the season. Garrett is a known disaster at HC, and having him at the top prevents us from fairly evaluating Moore and Dak.

Keeping Garrett at the top prevents anything useful that might come of the rest of the season. And it's a message to the players that Jerry is writing off the season as a loss.

Since they won't fire JG. Fire RM. Give Richard complete control of defense. This defense is horrid! Jaylon is playing like Roy Williams after he got paid. I could go on........

Wouldn’t it make more sense to fire the guy calling the plays if the defense is playing terrible

Let Marinelli be interim HC. No one will get confused and think he's anything but interim.

Let Richard and Moore have total control of their sides of the ball.

We improve on gameday management.
We get to see what Richard and Moore can do.

It's all win.
