Beware of the HC that wants the job

Get out of here with your spot on observations and on-point intuitions! There's blood in the water and (most) Cowboys fans are willing to overlook the next pawn as long as the current one is sacrificed.

We are like most citizens of dictatorships that are happy when the old leader is replaced with a new one who is just as inept and/or corrupt. Jerry has most of us wrapped around his oily little pinky finger.
Speak for yourself, Amigo. I want a coach that can lead this team to a championship. I've been a fan long enough to recognize when a team isn't playing well. This team has been poor, at best!

Mark my words, the new HC that's chosen will be completely off the radar. It will be no one we're expecting.I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas selected Charlie Strong at this point.

So first Jerry would never hire a good coach.... Then if he would, we should be suspicious of said coach for taking the job.

Some of you have so much Jerry hate you can't even think straight.

Was speaking for myself Amigo. I indicated that it was (most) Cowboys fans, which includes most people that never frequent a board like this. Zoners aren't like most fans...well, at least most of them aren't! :D

Do you wonder why Meyer and Riley are not being mentioned for the other HC openings?

A lot here want Meyer because of what he did in college and that worked out well for Saban and Spurrier so transferring that accomplishment to the NFL isn't a given and Johnson was the exception, not the rule.

Doesn't it make you wonder when Meyer is openly politicking for the job? That is exactly the last guy you want for a HC, a guy that needs the job.

Do you think Booger went to Parcells or vice versa? Where does the position of strength rest? With the pursuer or the pursed? Which type of HC is Booger willing to relinquish any of that power to, the man after the job or the man they're after.

The only way this problem gets fixed is if he has to relinquish some control and involvement and that is not happening with that weasel Meyer openly tossing his hat in the ring.

Back to that original question, why do you think they're being associated with only one possible HC opening?

Because it is the most prestigious opening?
Because some other teams will never spend big on a coach?

Rather have a guy who wants this job and what comes with it, than the guy who just wants to be a head coach.

Meyer doesnt need a job. The Cowboys are the job Meyer should want. The peices are in place here for him to compete for the one thing he doesn't have, and the biggest accomplishment for a head coach. A Super Bowl

IIRC, Parcells actually was the initiator in that he sent a message to JJ stating that he thought they would work well together. JJ then set up the tarmac meeting and they came to an agreement. At least, that's my recollection of his hiring. As to your main point, though, I'm not sold on Meyer either, though I admittedly don't know much about the guy.

I agree...if this happens it will almost mirror the Parcells situation.

Someone asked a coach on a sports show about possibly being a HC for the cowboys and both parcells and meyers basically said the same thing about how the Cowboys are the type of team this is like the Yankees of baseball. That they are a dream job for coaches.

Meyer laid it out for you when he was asked about the Cowboys job.

Because it's the premier franchise in all of sports.

I get that you don't like him personally.

Meyers isn't desperate for a job.

Exactly. With his resume, he has his pick of any he wants.

Who's choice was it when he left Florida?

Who's choice was it when he left Ohio State?

He's not beholden to any place or anybody.

Because all these teams wanna do is keep rehashing old coaches only to get same results.... Time for something new. As far as openly "begging" for the job.... Ehhh you don't know what is really happening other than what few are saying who don't know any better so....
Go by record, temperament, control, etc.... Not emotional mini jumbo

Oh please.

The Cowboys job is a total ego move for any coach and most of these guys are ego maniacs.

Are you a Garrett fan?

Bring on Meyer for better or worse but don't bring in some nobody that is grateful to the Jones's for giving him a job he doesn't deserve like Garrett.
No, I am not a Garrett fan and haven't been since Parcells saw the need to bring in Sparano as his run coordinator. Which was exacerbated by bringing in Payton, a coach that had his play calling taken away by his HC. I thought 'damn, what doesn't Garrett know'?

That's my point, anyone that wants this job too much is going to be willing to do it Booger's way.

That is so important, Booger's comfort level. His son had to sell him on firing Phillips mid season and putting Garrett in charge but it wasn't the record of 5-3 that got him the job. It was his understanding of Booger's needs from a HC. That drives the boat. He even mentioned that as his reluctance to change HC's, he used the word "comfortable".

I really think this is going to be "New chef! Same management"! Booger is not listening to the ex coaches and players that are all saying the same thing, the players need to hear one voice. Parcells had to have that written into his contract as Johnson did before him.

CATCH, I spent over 40 years in management and this is a textbook cluster and I don't see any HC changing that but I am hoping for a better in game sideline manager in a HC. The rest of it will continue as long as the head cluster is alive and kicking.

Just bring in a new playbook. This Offense has the same plays being called by a different person. JJ is going to have to at least give the appearance he has given some power to the new HC.

Oh I agree it's a mess but I don't think it's that bad of a mess.

The culture is a problem but I can't look past how bad JAson Garrett is on game days and how much that has effected us over the years.

We're still winning the division and getting to the divisional round of the playoffs before we get it handed to us by a coaching staff that doesn't ignore the X's and O's like we do.

Dallas is Dallas but a coach that can just squeeze the most out of this talent and give us an edge on Sunday's is needed.

That Rams game last year was disgusting. Everything was in our favor and we looked awful...

Garrett has been this teams anchor for awhile and we've watched a lot of talented players waste their careers.

"If they're that good, why are they available?"
That might apply to Meyer because he carries baggage colleges want to avoid but Riley would get a lot of offers. He's limited, more of an OC than HC and doesn't know jack about D but he coaches in the Big 12 and that's not a requirement.

There is a natural bias in the NFL against college coaches and the NFL coaching community is happy when one of them fails and turns tail back to college and none have ever made them happier than Chip Kelly. NFL born and bred coaches see college as nothing more than the farm system and high school football extension.

I think Riley would be nuts to leave one of the best coaching gigs in all the FBS. He doesn't even have to recruit in state and is the #1 choice for transferring QB's. He isn't going to make more money working for the Cowboys, it would be strictly an ego move because he knows the NFL bias.

Solid coach and man and he has proven he can get along with a meddlesome owner. It was Jerry Richardson that got rid of Hardy, Rivera wanted to keep him and said so.

I like him because if you saw him and didn't know what he did for aliving, my first guess would be football coach. With Garrett, I would have to get past florist to get to football coach.
