We will have a coach as soon as the season is over. The Clemson OC is our minority candidate. I think the Jones family suck as GMs but they seem to be going about the hiring process the right way if the rumors are true.
Not to be argumentative, but I don't believe for a minute they are going about the hiring process the right way.

  • The rumors are the Joneses are interested in a "big name" coach. Style over substance. Instead of pursuing the best candidate, they (basically) state they want to pursue a big splash opportunity.
  • The Joneses have all but said Garrett is gone after the season, but still reserve the right to extend Garrett if the team makes a deep playoff run. Cut bait and run.
  • The Joneses have signalled their post-Garrett targets as Meyer or Riley, potentially closing off interest from others.
Don't get me wrong, I want Garrett gone and really don't have any substantive issue with either Meyer or Riley. I just don't believe the Joneses are pursuing this in any systematic way.

Like most things Jerry does, there is just a whole lot of blah, blah, blah and not much substance.

The thing with Urban is that he doesn't tolerate losing. I'm not sure he would have the patience to struggle here for a few years while he remade the roster and culture around the team. In college, change can happen as fast one recruiting season. In the NFL, its much harder to build and sustain a team.

We’ve seen a history of quick turnarounds from one coach to the next historically.

Whoever the next coach will be, I imagine the cowboys will move swiftly to come up with a decision. With only 3 games to play, the candidates are already chosen.

Meyer's Ohio State Buckeyes were, for seven seasons, on top of the college football world. The team won the inaugural College Football Playoff national championship in 2014 and won Big Ten Conference titles in 2014, 2017 and 2018, plus 2 National Championships at Florida.

Urban Meyers has Championship experience.....best prospect not named Sean Peyton

Cowboys need a Coach who no's how to WIN not a prospect/puppet in over his head

Can't you give a fan some hope. I cant believe the Jones family actually thinks this mess can be turned around.

My prediction is that the next HC is a big name like this and we find out later that Jerry had the deal in place weeks ago.

I’m convinced they have already agreed in principle and they will take the next few weeks to put the financials in order. Urban Meyer will be announced after they “interview” Kris Richard the day after the first round playoff loss.

If Meyer comes to Dallas, why would he want Moore? I am sure that he has coaches that are familiar with his system that he would prefer.
Meyer is close with Scott Linehan. Linehan is close with Moore.

Not a guarantee, but it plausible the mutual connection keeps him here.

Because Jerry will make it part of the deal. Jerry doesn't want the offense to start all over again. He told a friend of a friends cousin, that was told by a friend of another friend etc....

Didn’t he say it was the best job out there or that he’d love to coach the cowboys? I forget where I saw it

They already gave a mutual connection in Linehan. You can bet Urban would ask Scott his opinion if Kellen.

But isn't that what this team needs? A guy who does not tolerate losing at the very top pushing them to excel and be their best? I mean actually be their best instead of giving motivational speeches like Jason Garrett. Just listen to Meyer talk about how he coaches. Look at his attention to detail down to observing what his counterpart on the other team is doing. That's attention to detail. Not just standing on the sidelines clapping and spitting. Actually giving your team a leg up.

Yes, but Urban has a health issue that requires him to keep the stress levels down. Thats why he's not coaching.

That’s the one possible fly in the ointment. Now, I don’t know what his current health status is, but if doctors will clear him, I’d really like to explore the possibility of him coming here.
