Both players have to play better. Period. Dak has been atrocious that last two games. What's worse is he has regressed to the old Dak. Pocket presence and mechanics look like last year. I am guessing he can be coached out of this but I am not sure it can happen during this season. He may need another off season or it could be something he slips back into for the rest of his career. Hopefully not. Jaylon is playing, which is a miracle considering his injury, but he is not playing particularly well and I don't care how many tackles he has. I think he is playing the wrong position. Jaylon struggles avoiding and getting off blocks in running game and he has the same issue with pass defense as the rest of the team, he doesn't look for the ball. The TD against him was a belly high pass when he was all over the receiver. The only reason he didn't pick it off was because was had his back to the ball and never looked back. If Jaylon Smith had the football instincts of Sean Lee, he would be an all pro.

look I'm the first to scream at the ducks Dak is still prone to throwing

and Jaylon has looked downright disinterested at times ...

"If Jaylon Smith had the football instincts of Sean Lee, he would be an all pro" .. no kidding Sherlock
so would most starting LBs in the NFL

still these 2 have earned some respect - and done it in JJ's glass house

No, Smith has not earned a thing outside of that contract he convinced JJ to give him.

Smith has been bad.

This thread would have been better at the end of last season......this year - not so much - especially for Smith.

these guys who weren't suppose to make it ... according to many wasted picks

Dak currently leads the NFL in passing, and has never missed a start

Jaylon currently leads the NFL in tackles, 3 years ago it was doubtful he'd ever be able skip rope

as bad as we sometimes talk about these guys - that's pretty darn good

and the biggest thing they both bring to the game is character
I get it but bad timing lol

It really doesn't matter, we are stalling out on the opponents side of the field which is why Maher has a high number of FG attempts - Dak's TD:INT ratio in the red zone looks good - but we are still failing there consistently when we do get there.

https://sportdfw.com/2019/12/04/dallas-cowboys-red-zone-problem/

"As much as it pains me to say, (as a big-time Dak Prescott supporter and long-time Ezekiel Elliott critic) the numbers suggest the problem in the red zone is Dak Prescott and the passing game and not Zeke and the running game."

There's not much to indicate we'd do well even if we did get turnovers - we have a fundamental problem of performance with a short field.
You aren't getting it, if a QB gets to start already in FG range a first down or two puts them in the redzone. Eady to score TDs when they aren't driving 75 plus yards every drive. You expect more TDs when you have to drive 75 yards or more every drive..... that's insane and frankly silly

No, I am getting it, I am telling you we simply aren't good once we GET into the red zone. It doesn't matter if we start there or not, we would still be settling for FGs because our quality of play drops in that area - it has gotten terrible the past 3 weeks and we are at the bottom of the league.

Sorry but I'll agree on Dak but Jaylon is always out of position and honestly his constant celebrations about simple tasks is annoying. Especially doing them over a hurt guy.
Agreed. If you make a play or get a good hit on someone. Just look at them, then walk away. Probably the best celebration right there. No yapping or that lame swipe he does.

You blaming the QB for the defense and special teams not giving him short fields? That's silly
No I said Dak is a good quarterback. One of the best bargains in NFL history. 4 years of quality quarterback play for under four million. I just look at the rest of the team (defense and special teams) and see since we have saved all this money we bargain bin shop on core players that make up the heart of the team. I don't know what you have been watching but this team has no heart. It's not Dak's fault but he is not good enough to get a 30+ million a year contract. I don't want to be the Falcons.

Imagine how good they'd be under a real coaching staff. :omg:

What do you think is easier, since we're are talking about other QBs having the same TDs as Dak with less throws....... driving 75 plus yards or starting in FG range already?

This isn't a hard concept to understand, I'm not saying the offense doesn't stall once in FG range. I was debating your comment about other QBs grabbing the same TDs as Dak with less throws. Got it now, or you still having trouble

Don't want to be the Falcons? You mean be up in the superbowl 28-3 in the 3rd quarter

Pay your quarterback, wide receiver, and running back a boatload of money and have not been relevant in two years.

I don't understand the hate Jaylon is getting if I'll be honest. The Dak hate sort of comes with the territory. But the Jaylon hate seemed to come out of nowhere. But I know this is what happens with fans. Before him it was guys like Roy Williams, Orlando Scandrick, Terrence Newman, Mo Claiborne, Demarcus Ware in his final years......fans look for scapegoats.....its easier for fans to swallow that maybe the players aren't good enough. Maybe the coaches aren't good enough. ITs much tougher for some of you to understand the main problem is a problem that won't go anywhere. Its Jerry. Dak wasn't always here. Jason Garrett wasn't always here. Jerry and his son are the mainstays here. The guys who have went nowhere. But you guys are praying for this team to win despite them? Good luck.

unless a miracle happens with Jerry's decisions we're about to see the worst contract in NFL history next offseason.

And Jaylon needs to stop playing like he doesn't have feet

They have no been relevant? The Cowboys? Not relevant? In what capacity are you using "relevant" here?
The Cowboys always will be relevant. A grown as man dances every time we lose on national television for crying out loud. Since Atlanta paid their stars in they have been terrible. They neglected their offensive line and have no depth. So when their secondary got injured they went into the tank. Sound familiar.
