Like all of us, JG is a product of his environment. We have to remember, this guy attended and graduated from an Ivey league university. With that comes a typical sense of entitlement. It appears he definitely has that.

He believes he has a superior team and will go down with his process and game planning. He doesn't believe he has to change. Basically he's using "mathematical probability" to say he will finish above his opponents if he would just stay the course.

In a sense his predecessors Jimmy and Saban did the same. Only difference was Jimmy and Saban schemed their opponents to exploit their weaknesses. This fool won't.

Read this quote from Mike Florio. Everyone agrees with us on JG. The question is why it was acceptable in the first place. Hopefully Jerry is desperate enough to change

The flaws with Garrett’s systems and style are now well documented. There’s no flexibility, no opponent-specific game-planning, no in-game adjustments, no active involvement in the coaching of players during games. Just standing, watching, and clapping.

So the question is whether Jerry will now bring in a coach who will want ownership to stand, watch, and clap? It all comes down to whether Jerry, 78, is sufficiently desperate to win and to win now to pursue a coach who will make it clear that three media availabilities per week from Jerry are three too many, and that there is indeed a new sheriff in town.

There are folks on this site that think coaching isnt an issue here. Let that sink in

And I don't understand their reasoning on that. So many saying "it doesn't matter who the HC is, Jerry is the the problem". Of course JJ is a problem but at least there is the hope that a new HC could install new & less predictable offensive & defensive schemes. Despite JJ, a new HC could very well make a difference.

I agree whole heartedly that JJ is one of, if not the BIGGEST issue. Unfortunately he's the part of the equation that will NOT change. Knowing this, my greatest hope is there is a coach who can work around him. Johnson and Parcells did to varying degrees for a short time, so it can be done. Right now the biggest issue is finding a way to take talented PLAYERS and making them a talented TEAM. In my experience that is a result of good coaching

Jerry doesn't value the coaching profession and he never has. Remember, 500 coaches could've coached the 92-93 Cowboys to the Super Bowl.

Yea after Jimmy assembled the team and they knew how to win. Nobody can win with the teams we've had since.

I really don't care if Jerry keeps stammering on the TV & radio. So long as he has a coach that knows how to actually coach us to a win, we should be OK. We don't need a flamboyant HC that gives great sound bites. Jerry can keep that part of the job if he wants to.

I was just about to post this... Jerry accepted Garrett's concept because it was similar to Jimmy's. But Jimmy always made in game adjustments.

Jerry talking to the media is NOT the problem.

Jerry could have talked to the media 10 times per weeks when Jimmy was here and it would not have changed anything. Jimmy was in charge and all players were more than aware of that fact.

Jerry in the locker-room or on the sidelines was what Jimmy did NOT want, but it was still only a minor distraction.

No player or assistant coach was going to go around Jimmy to speak directly to Jerry about issues the way that Deion or TO did during their time with the Cowboys.

If anything, the GM has listened to the coaches too much in recent years. "Hey Rod, what type of DT do you want in the draft..."

They've developed a legit drafting process even if the results are mixed. They don't just draft off of a whims because some non Cowboys employee told Jerry such and such player was great.

When was the last time Jerry was on the sidelines?

The Jerry related issues have been minimized.

The remaining issue is that Garrett is just NOT a good NFL Head Coach or Offensive Coordinator.

The question is whether the Cowboys know how to hire a legit NFL Head Coach.

Thankfully, the Jason Garrett era of ultra-simplistic coaching appears to be coming to an end, at long last. I'm certain all of us would be shocked and flabbergasted if Jerry suddenly decided to turn his GM duties over to someone who actually has the level of football knowledge to find success. Here's hoping such shock and awe materializes anyway, since that's likely the key factor for the Cowboys to return to greatness. In lieu of such an unlikely scenario happening, let's hope the incoming HC manages to wrest some of the authoritative clout from Jerry that too many others never could.

Good article. Florio is saying what a lot of people have been saying. But whether Jerry keep control or not, whether he talks to the media or not, Garrett still needs to be fired. There are things even a puppet coach can do to improve the Cowboys, like better game management, better use of players, better decisions on fourth downs, etc. However, there is no doubt Jerry has the biggest impact when he causes confusion about who is in charge of what happens on the field. The players must be accountable to the coach and if Jerry undermines the authority of his coaching staff then we will continue to see the sloppy play, poor tackling, penalties etc. that we are seeing today.

Is the defensive scheme Garrett's?

What does Jerry holding three press conferences a week have to do with hiring a coach with innovation?
I don't see the correlation. But nice dig against Jerry anyway. ;)

I’m probably the only one but I believe if he’s forced to fire (contract expired) Jason then he’s going to take a step back and offer the next HC power. In the end, I’ll probably look like an idiot to believe this but it’s where I’m at right now.

Agreed, but a coach that's basically a puppet cant really be a great coach.

Yep. The type of coach Jerry hires will tell us if winning "his way" is still more important than winning any other way.
