That's exactly why we should franchise Prescott and not give him a 40 million dollar contract and be stuck with another mess let the new coaching staff evaluate him or see if they can get him to the next level

At this point, even the franchise 30+ million is a waste of good and much-needed Cap bucks as I don't believe in Miracles even though it is xmas time!
Pass go get Bridgewater or Foles and move up and get your new Franchise prospect QB.

You think the new coach really wants to start over with the 3-4 best QB in the next draft?
Or trade all your picks for a top ten pick to get a rookie
I suspect the next HC is gonna see what I see
Fix the defense and special teams, keep cooper and this team is a whole lot better

The FO has an upper limit on what they think Dak is worth, and they have made the offer. Its Dak insistence on being the top paid QB in NFL history thats slowing things up. He's going to get a franchise tag.
I don't think it is a "Top Paid QB" thing. I fully believe it is a "I'm not going to sign for 7 years" thing.

And with a new CBA coming up soon, I don't blame him.

The only problem signing dak is Stephen isn't going to pay him what he wants. Stephen is right.

I heard Cowboys want 6 years and he wants 5...........so he can cash in again. The new CBA isn't going to be a slam dunk raise for the NFL's highest paid players. The players union is going to want that money spread around more. One guy should not be able to hold a team hostage and demand 20% of the teams cap.

Agreed. They could be the next Kingsbury and Kyler, who are already a good duo IMO. Hurts and Riley would be amazing. I’m all for letting Dak go if this was the duo we’d get.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

OMG

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHhhHhahHHah

Jesus Christ cowboy fans are sometimes the biggest idiots in all of sports

Dallas is the only football team I know of that overly criticizes the QB no matter who it is. I guess cause all of you want to be right? Idk but it’s very very weird.

Dak is a good QB. He’s probably the 5th best in all of the NFL.

And you want to bring in Jalen Hurts?
Again.......

I assure you I wouldn’t be complaining if we had Wilson, Mahomes, Watson, Rodgers, Brees, Goff, Jackson, Josh Allen, or even Jimmy G or Kirk Cousins right now. Dak is not top 5 in the nfl. Maybe in garbage time he is, but not overall. Don’t kid yourself.

Plenty of teams complain about their incompetent team QB’s. Titans were rioting over Mariota. Panthers are over Kyle Allen. I could go on.

Yes, I’d like to bring in Hurts, especially if we get Riley. They already have a good connection, and I have no doubt Riley will be able to continue to develop him. Riley knows Hurts well and will make an offense suitable for him. There is no offense suitable for Dak before he crumbles due to a slightly formidable defense.

Whoever the next coach is, they have to be ok with Dak Prescott as the quarterback.

That's got to be a big part of the interview process. Some coaches are really hard on their quarterbacks. They need a certain type to run their offense. Otherwise, they have to strip it down, which castrates them as effective playcallers.

If Dallas chooses an offensive guy, he's got to believe Dak can run what he wants. That is crucial.

That's why a defensive-minded coach is likely the ticket. Let Kellen Moore stay as OC and handle that. Get a tough defensive motivator type. LSU took that approach when Coach O hired the Saints passing coordinator for Joe Burrow.

If you go offensive, the new guy has to accept Dak. How many if them might want another option, such as a first-round pick to compete? Would Jerry tolerate that?

I wonder what Riley, Meyer, or any other candidates think about that situation.

It makes a strong case for the Ron Rivera type. He knows what it's like to have a limited passer at QB. If course, Cam could run.

That wouldn't excite me, but it makes sense.

This is an intricate hire coming.
I think anyone applying for the HC position will have second thoughts after that very informative/cerebral interview with Jed, Jethro and Elli May. Only Jed's check book will keep them all in consideration.

Jerry and Stephen were wise not to sign Dak to a long term deal for this reason. I always said that Jason and Dak's wagons were hitched together.
Dak has shown his true self when the games got tough, and his poor play can be directly linked to the Cowboys losses.
He gets erratic and panics and cost the Cowboys drives, possessions, and points.
I think the next coach will need a quarterback first.

I don't think Garrett leaving will change Jones' feelings about Dak. I think they want him here for the long haul and any time your negotiating big money deals like that of a QB, you are cautious knowing the long term effect it has on your cap. Dak is going to get a deal that will be really high and surprise some of us but it's just the way the league appears to be going. The next big name QB to get a deal will look to surpass Dak and that trend will continue on. I think Dak still has room to grow and a new coach hopefully can bring out the best in him and the rest of the guys around him.

Based off what? Give me your expert evaluation on him.
Not claiming to be some expert, but I like and watch OU, and Hurts is not a good passer at all compared to good NFL prospects. He's nowhere near the class of the two guys before him. He has good passing numbers because Riley is a genius at scheming guys wide open and he has very good talent around him (CeeDee Lamb will probably be a high first round pick.)

Really, even Riley seems to not trust him passing the ball at times.

Hurts accuracy is actually better than Murray's. I think Murray is a far more confusing prospect with his size and frame. Hurts, at the very least, has athleticism coupled with size and build.

I don't think Hurts will be a first rounder (I think Murray will eventually be considered a bust), however this thing that he is destined to be a backup will not be true - I think a team will take a chance on him in the third due to his intangibles. He intrigues me far more than hot head Mayfield and shorty Murray who both went in the top 5.

I'll just say that I'm guessing you haven't watched him that closely. He's a huge "story" because of his Alabama past, etc. But he's not much of a passing QB and I don't think it can be coached into him.

His Alabama past is why "scouts" are biased about him going in the first three rounds. They think he's the product of a system, if that was the case, then both Mayfield and Murray also need to be questioned. One of whom is already showing he's an erratic thrower without Riley, while Murray is yet to be determined.

He wouldn't have went to the Sooners if Riley didn't think he could coach Hurts to be a better passer.

Good God...I can't believe I am actually agreeing with you about something...I mean not on Hurts replacing Dak...that is just classic you...but on the concept of Hurts potentially having a NFL future and mocking those that are dismissive of it.

The same idiots that are dismissive of Hurts were likely dismissive of Wilson, Jackson, Newton, and to a lesser extent Allen as well (I am not going to put in Prescott as I don't want to derail my point). You would think these idiots understand by now that there are potentially more than one way to cook a chicken. This time next year, if Hurts is leading the Steelers or the Jaguars or the Bengals or some other team to the playoffs and Hurts is looking like a lock for Rookie of the Year...these same idiots will be screaming "OH MY GOD, HURTS IS NOT THAT SPECIAL...IT IS ONLY BECAUSE HE ENDED UP IN THE PERFECT SITUATION ON TEAM _________ AND JOE BURROWS AND JAKE FROMM AND JUSTIN HERBERT DIDN'T!!!"

Might just be my first and only time liking your comment.

As long as the Cowboys have the worst special teams in football and a middling defense no QB is going to overcome those deficiencies.

This board obsesses over offense even though it's been the best thing the Cowboys have had going for years, other than 2015's QB fiasco. We lose games 34-31 and people blame the QB. We lose 51-48 and people blame the QB. It's ridiculous.

All of the Cowboys wins this season have come when they score 30 or more points. When they score less than 30, they lose. If that doesn't tell you the bigger problems lie elsewhere then I can't help you.

This would be a great point if the Cowboys offense didn't suck in nearly every loss outside of the Vikings game....
