it's not Improving, its' gettign worse and the give up and lack of effort and hustle vs Bears was just a starter ,,and includes the lack of run gap discipline and toughtness that they are displaying under rod marinelli - who has to be the first guy they ask to retire and get off this team,

we have to change how we play defense up front and all the marinelli aches and pains have added to not only the DL but way into the LBs as well,
too many teams are getting into our LBs on the 2nd level , and even the screen passes play a part in that. ... and we are not developing these guys
such as Trysten Hill and Armstrong, we need a new appoaach, new blood and new idea and way of playing defense upfront ....i'm so very tired of the dude !

the other matter is Kris Richard - players have not responded to him and they have given up on him as well . he cannot motivate them ..or create designs and plays for them ... he cannot hide them and bring out the best in them , and they remain non-disciplined - so easy to fool on misdirection and they get gased so easily on no huddle

its' bulit for downfield and with a lead from the offense - and its' blitz packages are not well schemed or designed- most times they just dont get home.
still no INTs, no turnovers, no fumble strip tactics, DBs still just don't get their head turned around or jump the ball for INTs, maybe its a matter of not right DBs and these came before Ricahrd arrived, but i no longer dont get that he is the one that changes how we play great defense anymore.

when they gave up on him that seemed to send a message.

kr isn’t the DC.

he’s the secondary coach.

“A defensive coordinator is a coach responsible for a gridiron football team's defense. Generally, the defensive coordinator and the offensive coordinator represent the second level of a team's command structure, with the head coach being the first level.”

he’s the secondary coach.

he's the DB coach but he is also the DC.
Marinelli is DC by " title" but he handles the front four and in charge of the run defense gap scheme.

Richard is in charge of calling the defensive signals and in charge of the back seven ...so he's literally the DC.

You can shoot me down.. and that is ok but D hasn't been as manifestly bad as most are claiming. Do we miss waaaay too many tackles.. yes. Is our run defence on the outside porous.. yes. Do we kill ourselves with dumb penalties.. yes.

BUT.. our defence has and is improving. No doubt we are missing LVE out there and our pass rush hasn't been effective. I hate our 'all hats to the ball' over pursuit BUT the D is still putting up some decent stats. They got a couple of turnovers against the Bears.. they kept them to field goals after some good drives.. and generally did the best they could.

The real problem is our offence. When your offence puts up ZERO points after the first drive until the fourth quarter.. then your D is always going to look bad. They get gassed.. they get down. We had opportunities to go ahead by 2 scores TWICE in the first half and whiffed on both. That gets any D down. The missed FG which means we are playing catch up doesn't help either.

When we get behind we go pass happy which is a disaster for two reasons.. first Dak is crap (been saying that since he stole romos job.. glad others are finally seeing the obvious) and our passing offence is crap unless it is junk time or the opposition is stacked very very heavily against the run. Second reason is we are on the field for shorter amounts of time - ie our defence gets exposed more.

Yes the defence can improve but I don't think they are the main problem.. Dak and our passing offence is where the issues start and, of course, the woeful coaching staff (particularly clapper). Change the HC and QB and this team could be very dangerous.
You’re right, it’s been worse.

I don't think anybody should shoot you down I don't think you're that far off I truly believe scheme is a big part of the issue and of course here I go beating that dead horse again the culture here is rotten to the Core with this head coach and Delirious owner he has a hard time distinguishing fantasy from reality and it trickles down

Special teams is a huge issue. All the missed FGs kill momentum, don't put point on the board and leave the opposing team with favorable field position.

The defense can't make stops, can't tackle, can't stop the run and hasn't won us a game.

The offense has a low production rate in the 1st quarter, abandons the run and becomes predictable when playing from behind.

The coaching is just straight hot garbage.

The defense has a couple of times done enough on their side to win. That's when the offense sucked and didn't do its part. Keep in mind that the offense not scoring and letting the other team have the ball keeps the defense on the field for longer, tiring them out faster...because the offense usually sucks in quarters 1-3, by the 4th, the defense is gassed. Even with that, yes, the defense has sucked....but it's nowhere close to being mostly the defense's fault. There's plenty of blame.

Enough of the theories and conspiracies in the end in the NFL you cannot WIN if you don't score points!!!
Then why is it that the teams who espouse your idea always LOSE in the playoffs?

Simple math. Gashed up the middle + No containment + Missed tackles + Poor pass defense + Dumb penalties = Bad defense.

Celebrating stops on first and second down only to be made a fool of on third down:facepalm:
This defense can't even set the edge.......101.

Everybody wants to be a hero.......which gets them paid by Mr. don't get hand cramp hands.

There's your culture.

There is no cohesiveness on this defense. If a JAG like Lawrence gets paid.....why can't I? Put up a good to decent season ....... Cha- ching.

Been getting beat by QB runs and swing passes/screens all year.
