Dude, your “I hate Dak” is getting more an more ridiculous. The Cowboys scored on their opening drive and then, yes, one of the better defenses in the NFL stopped them period. And, yes, Dak didn’t play well. But, to seriously act as if the D only fell apart AGAIN because of the offense is pure stupidity. How many times do we have to watch this D let every underachieving QB look like a HOF? Trubisky looked TERRIBLE ALL YEAR until he played Detroit and Dallas. Jeff Driskel was lighting this same D up, as was a RB that Dallas has on the practice squad the year before. When the Vikings jumped out to a 14-0 lead, where there any turnovers on offense that gave Minny short fields? No. I could go on and on.....just like you say the offense feasted on poor teams, so did the D (except in the NO game).

We get it....many of you will never accept Dak. Fine, you have that right. But, stop acting like this D is worth anything right now.

And the defense caught a break against the Saints because it was Bridgewater, but Brees would have most likely made the defense pay for their bend but don't break scheme by putting the ball in the endzone. So Brady was the only legit starting QB that the defense held down. While they made subpar QB's who looked awful against other defenses, look like MVP QB's. Including a back up QB in Driskel.

Just because some are looking for a reason to try and solely blame Dak for the Cowboys being 6-7, doesn't mean the Defense gets a free pass in playing badly. And the Defense got some of their stats against the weaker teams that the Cowboys played. If Dak doesn't get credit for his stats, then why should the Defense get credit for being ranked in the top ten from beating weaker teams that the Cowboys faced earlier in the season.

People can point out the Saints and Patriots games as reason to blame Dak and the offense. And yet overlook the Lions game, where Dak and the offense played well. But, the Defense allowed Driskel to move the ball all over them. So, I don't buy the excuse that the Defense is only bad when the offense struggles.

ETA: They did play decently against Wentz. Yet, besides Brady, they didn't show up against offenses and teams with winning records, who also had their starting QB playing in the game.

You can shoot me down.. and that is ok but D hasn't been as manifestly bad as most are claiming. Do we miss waaaay too many tackles.. yes. Is our run defence on the outside porous.. yes. Do we kill ourselves with dumb penalties.. yes.

BUT.. our defence has and is improving. No doubt we are missing LVE out there and our pass rush hasn't been effective. I hate our 'all hats to the ball' over pursuit BUT the D is still putting up some decent stats. They got a couple of turnovers against the Bears.. they kept them to field goals after some good drives.. and generally did the best they could.

The real problem is our offence. When your offence puts up ZERO points after the first drive until the fourth quarter.. then your D is always going to look bad. They get gassed.. they get down. We had opportunities to go ahead by 2 scores TWICE in the first half and whiffed on both. That gets any D down. The missed FG which means we are playing catch up doesn't help either.

When we get behind we go pass happy which is a disaster for two reasons.. first Dak is crap (been saying that since he stole romos job.. glad others are finally seeing the obvious) and our passing offence is crap unless it is junk time or the opposition is stacked very very heavily against the run. Second reason is we are on the field for shorter amounts of time - ie our defence gets exposed more.

Yes the defence can improve but I don't think they are the main problem.. Dak and our passing offence is where the issues start and, of course, the woeful coaching staff (particularly clapper). Change the HC and QB and this team could be very dangerous.

Marinelli, is that you?

11th in the league in points allowed per game. Certainly not a bad defense or a dominant defense. They're a little above average.

You shouldn't have to score 30+ points to beat the Bears..........period.

kr relays the d formation.

he’s the passing def coor.

Marinelli is the DC.

they are that by title.

but when you see the coach that is gathering the entire unit over to the sideline and trying to rally and motivate them - and light a fire under them
..you see Richard doing that .... not Marinelli

why the team decides to title and label one this and that - who knows but that defense is Richard. Its a reason why they battled to keep him here.

and this confusion is all the more another reason why i will be so glad when ( if?) Marinelli is outta here .

No, it's bad.

All we heard was how Dak's passing stats were misleading because of the Cowboys not facing good teams earlier in the season. If that's the case then the same can be said for some of the defense stats being misleading since they went up against the same bad teams that some say Dak's stats shouldn't count against. It's not only on Dak to play well against teams with winning records, it's on the defense too. And this defense has lucked out with some opposing offenses having key injuries that the defense still couldn't take advantage of in some cases.

This defense is simply terrible, no ifs ands or buts about it.

Dak and the entire offense is obviously not as good as the stats suggest.

And the defense is the same, definitely not as good as any positive stat would suggest.

Do the Special Teams have any positive stats that we should ignore?

yes we give up too many yards...yes we give take too many penalites....yes we miss to many tackles...yes we can't force turnovers...yes we can't stop the run...yes we can't get to the QB...yes, can't make adjustments and look lost on niche plays..

However, we are getting better? What on earth is going on in my world as a Cowboys fan? I must have a head injury or somethin'
