I cannot wait for this contract negotiation to play itself out. There may be a delay if the franchise tag is used but it will get worked out eventually.

Jerry Jones went all in on Prescott sometime during his first two months as a professional. It was always only a matter of time before the heart attacks and strokes would happen. It would be better if some people's road to recovery occurred sooner than later.

Get it done Jerry Jones, for ALL your team fans' sakes. lol.
If Jerry commits that much of this team's future to Dak, he will likely finish off the franchise.

The amount per season and length are really irrelevent, the only thing that matters is the garanteed money, i would not like to guess at what it would be on a contract that big or long but you would have to think at least 200M, which is ridiculous and if your Dak why sign for that long without that kind of guarantee? So it will never happen

The guaranteed money is NOT the only thing that counts. It’s certainly a factor. But in terms of cap you have to look at what your average salary per year is of the years that the player is likely to be on the team. That may or may not include the guaranteed money.

From the way things have been going Dallas should pay a competent kicker $20 million.

This makes little sense.

They were in negotiations, they decided to wait, the season was an absolute failure, etc.

Exactly what kind of sense would it then make to give the guy a record setting contract?

What was the waiting for? Why does Dak have leverage at all? They can tag him twice.

Maybe the new coach doesnt want Dak? Why not at least wait that out?

Things absolutely NEVER add up and it's just getting unbearable.

The only thing Jerry can do well is write a damn check, maybe he is desperate to feel good about himself.

The difference between 30 and 40 million annually is two very key starters, that #4 will desperately need.

He needs a supporting cast. He is NOT Aaron Rodgers.

This team is headed for some rough times. Some very rough ones, and the current window is about closed.

I like, not love, Dak - but that's just crazy. What kind of team will be around him with that contract?
This would be a smart deal. Get your brain away from the number 400mil. Because he will play a few yrs at around 30-35mil per yr , and then will be restructured probably in yr 5 that would lower the yearly cap hits. And then probably in yr 8 or 9 he gets restructure/extended again. A longer deal makes a deal team friendly instead of the 4 yr deals like Goff and Wentz signed. That emoji u used just proves you still dont understand the way teams structure contracts and why most teams would rather sign players long term rather then short term. I dont think the number will or should be anywhere near 400mil.

It will take a real change in perspective from Dak's representation to sign on that dotted line. I think the Cowboys take that in a heartbeat if the guaranteed portion is in $120M range.

50 mil is low for guarantees given the length and total dollar amount. That contract would be a cap bank to restructure. Half way through the contract it might seem like a deal.

QBs are hard to come by. Dak is pretty good.

A former GM with no ties to the situation giving his opinion by throwing something out there because it’s the Cowboys and he will get attention. Not buying it

What? Dak doesn't want a contract like that unless he gets some insane amount of it guaranteed. But most likely, the last 5-6 years of such a contract would be not guaranteed, and so the contract would tie Dak here for much longer than he wants.

If the Cowboys keep him longer than 4-5 it won't matter if the contract isn't guaranteed for the last 5-6 years, because he will get paid as long as the Cowboys keep him. Even if they don't keep him beyond 4-5 years, that's enough to make a boatload of money under that kind of contract.

All that said, I don't think there is any way the Cowboys give him that kind of contract.

We need to lock up Jeff Heath at current top salary for a safety.

You know,,, because in a few years it will be a bargain.

Whatever contract he gets, you can rest assured there will be a large amount of people on here talking about what a steal we got.

When Jaylon Smith signed his contract, and we had him under the contract for TWO more years, most everyone talked about what a great deal we got!

When Zeke signed him, even though we gave him wayyyyy above market value, everyone mentioned how we got a steal.

When we signed Demarcus Lawrence, and paid him a record setting contract, half the people on here talked about what a steal we got.

It never changes so just be aware!

Why would any player sign for 10 years? Once the guarantees and prorated dollars fall off the books, it's basically a play-for-pay deal for the rest of their career. Nobody is going to - at least they shouldn't - guarantee anything on the back half of a 10-year deal so why agree to that? Dak would be better off signing two separate 5-year deals. If he falls off in the first 5-year period, he wouldn't see a 6th year regardless of whether the deal was 5 or 10 years. If he progresses in the first 5-year period, he has another crack at free agency. Sign a 10-year deal and progress, and he's forfeiting a massive signing bonus that comes with enough additional guarantees to keep him on the roster for a couple more seasons regardless of how poorly he plays after signing the 2nd deal.

Just doesn't make sense.
