Everyone says this about college coaches and yet every year tons of college coaches show interest in the NFL.

It's almost like highly successful people seek out the top of their field and enjoy new challenges.
I'm not saying he'll never leave Clemson, but I just don't see why he would leave anytime soon-especially this offseason, to coach here.

I would absolutely love to believe you on this. But what makes you think now is the finally time where Jerry is broken enough to finally let somebody else do the job the right way?

It's a very fair question and I knew it would be the question that most people would bring up, I don't know him personally but I think legacy matters to Jerry and he's getting old & knows that time is running out - I think he's ready to do whatever it takes. In my mind the best thing he can do to for his legacy & get 'credit' for this team winning is to bring in a massively successful well known coach and let him do his thing and win.

A top college head coach makes as much or more money than an NFL head coach, and he has a lot more job security.
I guess my question is, what's the better career move for college coordinators like Venables and Elliot who aren't top college head coaches yet? Clemson head coach or coordinator in Dallas?

As a huge Clemson fan, it's not happening.

He is Clemson football. He is going nowhere

What about the widely speculated thought that because he graduated from Alabama - he's waiting for Saban to retire and take over that program? Is it fair to say you'd rather him coach the Cowboys?

What makes anyone think he wants to coach in the NFL? He's making as much money as they make, except Belichick, and has created a recruiting machine much like Bama, OSU and OU. Since he and Saban are friends, I assume they've discussed Saban's time in the NFL.

Not if he doesn't receive the "credit" for it.

Jerry is only interested in winning if it's his way. What has transpired in the last 25 years that leads you to believe otherwise?
to his credit it was his doing that brought 3 Sbs to this franchise as opposed to wait for it TWO for the other ownership in the same period.. we were spoiled getting all 3 in 5 years but 30years under Jerry 3 sbs , 30years under landry TWO.. im not great at algebra but I believe thats MORE..

I realize theres a drought and some bad GM and ownership mistakes were made but theres reason the old franchise sold it to Jerry..they were on the verge on being bad, football business was changing quickly and has changed since Jimmy left..

Im not making excuses but lets stop omitting those facts, Jerry Hired Jimmy, Jerry was responsible for the three SBs as much as anyone..we may not have the SB appearances and this long drought but this team has nearly as many wins over the last 10years as NE..yes its RS and not as impressive built we arent bottom feeder by any stretch..

Depends on the individual and his goals, but in my view considering the pay and job security are better as a HC at a top college football school (which Clemson now is), the college head coach position would be better. Of course, if a coach dreams of or has the goal of being in the NFL that could affect his attitude on the subject..

Elliot was reported by Jane Slater as a possible target, right?

I think Dabo would leave Clemson for Dallas. ............b/c it would be an easier bridge to his dream job of succeeding Nick Saban at Alabama. It would be much harder for him to leave Clemson for another school. But, leaving for the pros wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings.

I addressed this because this forum is 93% just guys that hate Jerry and Jason and post the same **** over and over. Like I said I think Jerry would respect Dabo and let him do his thing, at this point in Jerry's life I just think he wants to win and that's all he really cares about.
I think you're dead wrong. Jerry's actual track record with Jimmy and Parcells says otherwise. Why would Jerry respect Dabo enough to stop doing the crap him and his children have been doing the last 31 years he's owned the team. To me this isn't even rational thinking. Take your homer goggles off and join us in the real world. Jerry's not concerned with winning or he wouldn't keep doing all the stupid crap he's always done.

Dabo is the highest paid college football coach on the planet, and has no desire to leave Clemson. He's also a high character and religious type, which would never fly with the current state of the way the Jones clan runs this circus.

Keep dreaming.
I think he has his dream job right now

To continue to enable this owners behavior with no foreseeable intervention rehab is where this team is at.

It’s come down to a team sale to a different family tor Stephen drastically alters the current blueprint of how business is done with regards to football operations.

If neither one of those things happens expect more of the same.
