The case for not winning in the playoffs

I was watching "Hanging with the boys" yesterday and Nate Newton brought up something interesting...

He said if we even win 1 game, we would be playing a first place schedule next year. Can you imagine the meltdown if we started losing next year?

Not only that, but we would also be so far back in line in the draft. There would be no advantage.

Your thoughts?

I’m sitting in the dark looking like emperor palpatine for the rest of season. Just hoping eagles win out to improve our draft pick and quicken Garrett’s end.

We as fans can't help the team across the street. Sooner or later this team is going to have to grow up, whether that's playing a first-place schedule or a team without key injuries. We've had breaks in the past and have not taken advantage of them.

As far as the draft, we've taken bust in the first round and have uncovered some gems in later rounds. It's time to Cowboys start taking care of their business and the business of succeeding in the NFL is not easy.

Who knows? Maybe it would help if the Cowboys' defense finally limits their over-pursuit and starts playing much safer methods of defense. If we were to go 6 and 10, it would seem the schedule might be forgiving enough to help, at least to some extent. The way this team has been going about their business lately, such a finish might be wishful thinking.

Then, again a return to better defense might be a welcomed sight. Could our coaches change their ways all of a sudden? Seemingly, it's a lot to ask. I'll admit to having my doubts. Decades of stubborn insistence of doing things a certain way would have to be overcome.

Nevertheless, winning is, and always will be, the best way to go about your business. Is it somehow realistic to think that with our coaching making the proper adjustments, we could manage to improve enough to be a factor in the playoffs? In view of the persistence that our coaches have shown for so long, it seems a lot to ask. In any event, maybe we'll see if their "adjustments" are effective enough to make a real difference. Good luck with that.

There’s no case for not winning in the playoffs. We will get there and we will win, the first game, then the second game and the third game

Are you talking about winning a playoff game? I doubt we make it there. No worries.

All of the so called advantages of tanking or losing games is loser talk. It's like saying we don't want to play in the Super Bowl because we want to have more rest going into next season. Nobody can predict what a first place schedule actually turns out to be or what a draft pick might do. I can say that establishing a losing environment doesn't simply go away during an off season because you no longer want the players to lose. There is no reason to feel good about a loss.

Yes and then Santa Claus will be coming pretty soon, too and then the Easter Bunny a few months later! Life is just a dream, really!

My thoughts are the Cowboys are going to try to win games no matter now many "tank" threads are created here.

I'm not talking about tanking games... I was just making an observation of how quick people melt down after a loss... Even when we win. people gripe if we didn't win the way they wanted us to win... Yes, if we make the playoffs great... But if not, after the year we've had, people need to chill with the meltdowns...

That was my whole point of this thread...

I know this should matter but it doesn't. Not the thread, I mean me. I am so ambivalent about this team and this season that my interest in watching the Cowboys play is more morbid curiosity. I mean, I just sit there and watch them play, I could be watching any team play.

I think the Eagles would give us a better game in the WC round than the Cowboys. I am all for some good football.

And the difference between the 1st place and 2nd place will not be much different. It will be the difference of 2 teams.
NFCE teams will play the NFCW and AFCN next year.
They difference is the same place finishers in the NFCN and NFCS

As it stands now, 1st place would be GB & NO, 2nd place Minnesota and either TB, Carolina, Atlanta, whoever finishes 2nd. So that is a bit of a drop off there for the NFCS.

Winning in the playoffs has no effect on your schedule the following season.

So hopefully we lose and not even try to get into the playoffs?

You can’t be a scared fan in this game.
