When was the last time we got a high draft pick for a player?

When was the last time we got a 1st round draft pick for a player? A 2nd or even a 3rd?

That isn't really a common thing for any team. It takes trading away an elite player, and teams do everything they can to keep elite players before trading them away. The exception might be a team that is in complete rebuild mode.

That's certainly not true and I can tell you just a few times where the reverse has been true for us. It takes two to tango.

Amari Cooper
Roy Williams
Joey Galloway
Drew Henson

That's off the top of my head.

You can't say I'm wrong by giving stats that are on the reverse side of what I said was right.

Besides, you came up with 4 examples over 19 years, so that doesn't really dispute the idea these trades are rare. Actually only 3 examples - the Cowboys got Henson for a 3rd round pick.

As for Amari Cooper, he fits the category I mentioned of being traded by a team in a rebuild mode. The Raiders also traded away Kahlil Mack as part of that rebuild and their focus was on accumulating top draft picks.

The Lions also fit into that category when they traded Roy Williams. They were in the midst of an 0-16 season at that time

Galloway was 19 years ago, and Roy Williams was 10 years ago. Not exactly part of a flood of those kinds of trades. And all different teams, so none represent a team making those trades frequently.

We don't have any players of that caliber to trade for, so it's been a long, long while.

We go the other way, we just managed to turn a 2017 1st round pick into absolutely nothing.

And are currently well on our way to doing the same with this year's top pick in the 2nd round.

I hope a new coaching staff can do something with Hill, and the light comes on. But the track record not looking good. I will give him another year. Mostly because of this lame staff, I will give him the benefit of the doubt, for now. As this defensive scheme sucks.

I think he's guaranteed a spot in next year's training camp and no more than that. When Rod and Garrett are gone, there are no ties to him and nobody that will make excuses for him. He either earns a roster spot or he's gone.

Accountability is a great thing.

This is why they need to hire Meyer. Discipline and accountability.

I'm not interested in tearing down this team and rebuilding. That's what would have to be going on if we are getting high draft picks in a trade for talent already on the team. So that's why we haven't heard it in a while.

Does it matter, there's less than a 50% chance of a 1st round draft pick actually starting or being productive in the NFL

Better question....when is the last time we traded a starter. In other words, it's damn near never happens with Jerry and Stephen. In fact, they rarely release/cut players with ANY years left on their contracts regardless of their performance.

I don't agree with trading a valued starter unless you're in a situation like the late 80's Cowboys, a lot of old guys that are at the end of their careers, and their backups just aren't very good. In other words you need a complete re-build. Or unless you have a backup like Brady and you can afford to let a Bledsoe go. If you trade a valued player, there's no guarantee your draft pick will be any good, either.

Dallas just hasn't been in the latter position for years, let on great player go and the rest of the team can't "suck it up" to compensate...
