Whose decision was it to keep Maher?

They did sign him but what I had read was JG was the reason it took so long. That's why i asked the question. I know JJ is the obvious answer which is what surprised me when I saw it was JG.
If I am remembering correctly it was JG that mentioned looking for a kicker and the Jones saying they were not.

“We have confidence in Maher,'' Stephen told 105.3 The Fan in the wake of an embarrassing 26-15 Thanksgiving loss to Buffalo in which Maher missed two more field goals. "We are going to stick with him.”

“Obviously, we have to do a close evaluation of it,” Garrett said, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. “We brought three kickers in earlier in the week. We decided to give Brett an opportunity this week. It didn’t work out. So we have to take a real close, hard look at that.”

Wouldn't shock me if this was the real answer.

Cheap kicker with a big leg.

F.O. probably felt so good hitting on a cheap kicker after Bailey that they never bothered to bring in any competition for a guy who was 68% on the road kicking field goals.
I suspect it was more about we know what’s out there and it’s not pretty. So we got a guy with a big leg and little experience so maybe he can turn into something
In reality he got worse and even the big leg doesn’t always show on KO

Just surprised me that they never bothered with any UDFA kickers. One thing to be looking in September, but after the draft you can bring in one or two kickers in.

I think they just got lazy and overconfident.

Yes, that is what i think as well. They just seem to miss the small things or don't imagine areas of weakness or potential weakness. There are 5-6 areas each year where I think they just miss. punt returner is another. Our special teams are terrible as a whole. We are constantly losing yards in special teams. Why not find a punt returner who just catches the ball and instead of dancing, just gets up field? Instead we never get punt return yards and still get penalties for holding.

For a coach who always stresses the three parts of the team, it seems like this is just empty talk as their special teams continues to disappoint.

I’m hoping we look at a new kicker and punter after this season
Jones has dropped off and is not worth his pay these days
Kicker is a tough one though, there just aren’t many proven kickers out there

I read in one of the articles a comment saying that JG was hard headed and wouldn't change fast enough and mentioned the kicker situation as an example. I assumed that the decision was up in the front office. Do you really think it was really up to JG to keep believing in a kicker that has missed 10 FG's this year?
Lets make this easy, the guy who makes all football decisions from socks to jocks, Mr football as he is known around here.

Remember, it was Jones a few weeks ago who contradicted Garrett about looking for a new kicker.

Well JG said after 1 game bills? that they would evaluate the kicker , then jerry said no there would be no evaluation
of the kicker.
To me that says JG was ready to get another kicker but jerry wasnt.
So now they get another kicker, which means jerry decided to go along with JG.

To get rid of any player, that has to go thru the jones boys first, and if they ok it , then it happens, if not
it doesnt happen.

Keeping Maher was a bad decision............so it could've been Garrett or Jerry either one......both make poor football decisions.

Who makes the final decision?

Garrett looked quite perturbed when Maher missed against the Bears. The organization was sending major mixed signals in the week between Thanksgiving and the Bears game on this. They weren't on the same page. I imagine Jerry made the final decision to keep Maher that week.

What drove me crazy was they didn’t really bring in any young guys to compete just handed the job to Maher. Maher wasn’t all world last year no way he should of been given a free pass.

Classic Jerry movie. Sees a guy who can nail a 60 yarder, and thinks he's something special, but can't hit a chip shot. It was the same reason why Beuhler was kept around so long.

If y’all remember, Jerry said that we was spoiled by the Bailey years and that we had to except that this quality of kicking is normal.

Jerry Jones. No one makes decisions without Jerry's approval. Jerry is always to blame.
