As I look back on the preseason predictions from fans vs the oddsmakers we see a sharp contrast in how they and we picked and saw expectations.

Vegas had us picked as 5th in the NFC losing in WC round in the playoffs while fans hoped for a deep run to at least the championship game.

And fans based their expectations not on what proven handicappers and experts forecasted but their own hopes and aspirations.

“The Cowboys are currently tied for fifth in Vegas odds to win the Super Bowl at 20 to 1. Those figures translate to not making it out of the Wild Card round. For Cowboys fans, that would be a complete disappointment.”

“They are better than what the oddsmakers are giving them credit for, and the Cowboys will prove it. With an elite defense combined with an improved offense - the Cowboys are poised for something bigger this season.”

Amazing how fans go against oddsmakers and experts. We weren’t even picked to win our division. But yet fans somehow manufactured this was to be the season we should finally break thru to a championship appearance.

And our owner over hyped the season as well. At least he has a motive to promote his product.

Why wouldn't we expect a better team this year? They were 10-6 last year, we had a pretty good draft and that was without T-Fred. On top of that we had Coop for an entire year. I don't know how anyone would think otherwise-Vegas or anyone on here. But this is yet another reason i don't gamble anymore.

I don't remember exactly what I predicted...but I expected to sweep our division, a minimum of 12-13 wins, a Superbowl, 15 guys to make the Pro Bowl and more coverage of the cheerleaders at half time.

I have been disappointed this season.

#1 reason was our schedule playing 6 teams from the playoffs last year.

Remember we were basically 1 player away last year from 6-10 type season after starting 3-5

We had concerns coming in with defense since Lawrence was returning from surgery and the loss of Gregory and Irving with what the effects would be on defense if DL wasn’t effective stopping the run and causing havoc on QB. And could our LB’s stay healthy.

Most fans on here are pessimistic anyway. So there will always be that no matter what the team does. We get a new coaching staff, and I bet the same ones will predict the same 6-10 or 7-9. This time it will be because they need to get things and players done their way.
I actually can't blame them. I will go into next season regardless at 8-8 still, for now.

I tell a friend of mine 8-8 every year until they show me otherwise they can go 10-6 every year.
I think I had 9-7, or 10-6 winning the division. But I also changed it to 11-5 but said 8-8 could happen also. It was one of those years one really could not say, too many factors involved.
Was Zeke going to report, was Dak really improved. How would Moore do calling plays, then we still have Garrett, was the defense really going to be better.

Would we be able to dominate in the running game again with Elliott holding out and the effects?

Was Frederick going to be his old Pro Bowl self after a missing entire year?

Would Smith and Martin stay healthy?

Would Witten make an impact?

All valid concerns coming in which could effect the season and expectations.

Also concerns about S, as usual, we knew it would be a problem. And DT's as usual, failed.

True but these oddsmakers and experts aren’t all negative Cowboy fans.

And on the flip side the Homers always over hype just like Jerry.

So far with the exception of the Jets game I’d argue we have lost to better teams.

The Bills and Bears are games I’d liked to have won but the rest are all legit playoff teams we were concerned would lose coming in. NO, GB, Minn, and NE.

My predictions were 7-5 after Thanksgiving.

Agreed but we were in the playoffs too and without those two I mentioned. Doesn't always translate to a "lost season" although we are not out of it yet...
It might be lost but it shouldn’t have been until Jerry dumped a toxic cloud over the season after Patriot game which was so ridiculous in the most expected loss of the season .

Forgive them for they are fans and know not what they do. I will never fault any fan for their predictions and expectations or play the "told ya so" card

And spare me that objective fan that has lost that one thing that made them a fan, emotion.

I didn't make predictions because I didn't know what to expect and I was not over the shock of watching this team in that last playoff game. I still can't explain how that happened and I'll bet McVay can't either, that was far beyond what he expected and I'm sure that altered his tactics he had planned on before that game.

That was the most critical game of the season and they play like that? If I can't predict a run D that will give up 270, and mostly to a Tier 2 back, how in the hell can I predict anything about this team? Then they start the season against a mediocre OL but a Tier 1 RB and they do not look any better.

I did not expect good things from this team and had them at 6th in the NFC to start the season and that's where they are now. And I did that for one reason, what did they do after that game to address the problem? Not extend the OC. They ignored the problem.

If that had been any other team, and GM, that had done that in a playoff game, wouldn't you expect that to be the first order of business in the off season and draft? What did this guy do? Signed an edge rusher and drafted a questionable DT known for pass rushing, if he's known for anything except not showing up.

Some problems can't be fixed and certainly not as quickly as most of us expect but to ignore that and not to even address that should tell any fan of this team all they need to know.

The posters that I recall being pretty positive with their predictions all seemed to have one assumption, and it was not wrong to have it at that time. They assumed all these young players would improve and I can't point to one that did. That is as strange as that last playoff game. How do none of them get better? The best player on the D was that FA edge rusher.
