You guys can take your shots at me and say what you want, but this is IMO the real reason Jerry seems to be so distraught lately.

I think before this season, Stephen and Jerry had a meeting about Garrett. I think in that meeting Stephen told his father that they needed a change but would give Garrett a chance to win himself a shiny new contract. Stephen knew this wouldn't happen. As he is on record after Philly winning a Superbowl saying "no more excuses" regarding injuries and whatever.

He also knows his father would never actually fire Jason. So this was a way for him to get rid of him without hurting him. I think in that meeting too things may have been said about control. Basically that meeting was like. "You have had it your way for 10 years, we need a new coach in here and a culture change, and that includes us."

Now we get to why I think Jerry is upset.

Jerry for the first part of the season was basking in all of his glory thinking, I am going to extend Garrett and get to continue to do things my way. As the season wore on and Jerry started seeing the unraveling and the Garrett era coming to an end, he also saw his own control going out with the coach. He has been lashing out and crying and then lashing out again because he is actually resigned to the fact that Garrett is leaving, and the culture change Stephen proposed is about to take hold. Meaning he can no longer do what he has been doing.

This culture change will be a changing of the guard for the coaching staff and the FO. And the biggest turning point was paying Zeke that money and seeing him not live up to it because of sub par coaching. Jerry realized that now is the time and it has to happen and hes mad as heck about it.

Why do I say this? Jerry has gone out of his way to make everyone know this season that hes the man. He is the GM. He is the final say. My thinking is. He knows he wont be saying that next season.

I think a deal is already in place with Urban or Riley, and Stephen negotiated it. Its already done. And Jerry is throwing a tantrum because he knows the new coach will have control and he needs to sit back.

This is obviously my opinion. I would love to hear your thoughts on this everyone.

I think you're absolutely right about Jerry Jones hating being wrong. And clearly Garrett's and this team's failures prove that he's wrong.

But I think you're wrong in thinking that he's mad because he's about to relinquish control.

I think he's mad because his 'pet project Tom Landry starter kit' has proven to be a big, fat, failure and an ego like Jerry's doesn't handle failure well. Or admit to it.

But don;t connect that to Jerry stepping back into the shadows and acting like a normal owner. The only thing that might bring that is a strong coach like Meyer who has options and won't take Jerry's **** and will pack up and leave, or walk away from the negotiating table beforehand, rather than being Jerry's next puppet.

So are you saying you think Jerry's real deep anger is toward Stephen for "outmaneuvering" him?
or toward the fact that is looks like he's losing control, in your opinion?

just trying to properly grasp the point you are going after here.
FWIW I don't see Jerry relinquishing control under any circumstances.

I dont mean stepping back into the shadows completely. He will still have his talk shows and that crap. I am saying football operations wise he will have to give up like with Parcells.

I hope you're right. But, I'll believe it when I see it... not eating the cheese anymore.

I think Jerry has no choice at this point. I think Stephen pointed out the last time they were successful was when Jerry stopped meddling. But in a more casual Father Son talk.

If the hire is Meyer? I agree with you. He will have to to some extent. Anyone else and I'll feel it's business as usual. But that's not the source of his anger.

It's an interesting theory.

Stephen may just be writing himself out of the will if what you propose is correct..... :muttley:

Will never happen, the guys ego is too big, he just can't help himself. He may back off at the beginning but eventually he is going to want the control again.....unfortunately.

He never have up as much control as he likes to let on or what fans want to believe. Almost immediately there was the Ware/Spears dust up in the draft. Not sure how into the Hutchinson/Henson failed pitcher QBs Parcells was!

It's a nice thought, but I seriously doubt Stephen would turn on his pap. After all, the Jones kiddos are basking in Jerry's glory, and money, so why rock the boat.

he's a stubborn, egoistic man who hates to admit he was wrong about garrett leading us to the promised land. but the reality is much simpler. he's getting older, he's sick and tired of losing, and he's finally at wit's end and has decided to do something about it. even if that means not resigning garrett.

I think you have little evidence and a ton of conjecture.

Jerry's frustration is nothing new. Every year he drinks his own Kool Aid, thinks this is going to be the team, only to learn he's wrong again.
