You guys can take your shots at me and say what you want, but this is IMO the real reason Jerry seems to be so distraught lately.

I think before this season, Stephen and Jerry had a meeting about Garrett. I think in that meeting Stephen told his father that they needed a change but would give Garrett a chance to win himself a shiny new contract. Stephen knew this wouldn't happen. As he is on record after Philly winning a Superbowl saying "no more excuses" regarding injuries and whatever.

He also knows his father would never actually fire Jason. So this was a way for him to get rid of him without hurting him. I think in that meeting too things may have been said about control. Basically that meeting was like. "You have had it your way for 10 years, we need a new coach in here and a culture change, and that includes us."

Now we get to why I think Jerry is upset.

Jerry for the first part of the season was basking in all of his glory thinking, I am going to extend Garrett and get to continue to do things my way. As the season wore on and Jerry started seeing the unraveling and the Garrett era coming to an end, he also saw his own control going out with the coach. He has been lashing out and crying and then lashing out again because he is actually resigned to the fact that Garrett is leaving, and the culture change Stephen proposed is about to take hold. Meaning he can no longer do what he has been doing.

This culture change will be a changing of the guard for the coaching staff and the FO. And the biggest turning point was paying Zeke that money and seeing him not live up to it because of sub par coaching. Jerry realized that now is the time and it has to happen and hes mad as heck about it.

Why do I say this? Jerry has gone out of his way to make everyone know this season that hes the man. He is the GM. He is the final say. My thinking is. He knows he wont be saying that next season.

I think a deal is already in place with Urban or Riley, and Stephen negotiated it. Its already done. And Jerry is throwing a tantrum because he knows the new coach will have control and he needs to sit back.

This is obviously my opinion. I would love to hear your thoughts on this everyone.
I don’t think this scenario is impossible and I’m hoping it actually happened. Always had a feeling SJ was pragmatic and a lot more built to GM a team than Jerry ever was. He also hasn’t had success like Jerry which will force him to be hungry and want to win more than validate an ego.

Maybe Jerry is angry because he realizes he should have done this years ago and he wasted valuable time - which is getting short for him. He's made at himself. Maybe he is embarrassed, not because he made a bad decision, but because he made in so publicly and then he backed it up and justified it for years, again publicly, when others were starting to question the decision. Jerry doubled down again recently saying everything that happens on the field is because of him. Or maybe he is angry with Garrett for not helping him out by winning some games. Maybe he is blaming Garrett because he trusted him to win and Garrett failed? When I had to fire people on my staff, I got mad at some of them for putting me in that position. I hated firing people. Its the worst feeling in the world, but with some of them I blamed them for making me do it! LOL. Maybe Jerry feels the same way.

Whatever the reason, I am pretty sure its because Jerry feel backed into a corner and has to go against all the BS he has been spewing for years.

I think you have little evidence and a ton of conjecture.

Jerry's frustration is nothing new. Every year he drinks his own Kool Aid, thinks this is going to be the team, only to learn he's wrong again.
Considering i said IMO and never once said its a evidence based write up yeah you're right. Thanks for your input.

Anyone thinking Booger is ready for the lap blanket and a nap has not been paying attention. He's not close to hanging it up and is more out front than ever.

This somehow presumes that Jerry can be forced to relinquish some of his power even if he doesn't want to. That's not the case. Jerry owns the team, and the organization is not structured where anyone can override Jerry. Whatever control Stephen has is at Jerry's discretion.

You are painting stephen as the rational non jerry type guy, but he and his dad decide all this stuff together.
Stephen is just a cheapo version of jerry.

It's always fun trying to psychoanalyse things. :D It's an interesting take but I don't buy it.
Although coaching played a big part in Zeke's "decline," I think it was totally silly to pay him what JJ did. Even professional sports writers know that the RB position can be successful with average guys and a good OL!! It was simply another plunger bet by JJ wanting to showboat his ego and have a "star" at RB - even though he's not - and statistics proved this before he was extended.
As far as SJ is concerned, I'm not convinced anything will will be done differently, and I'm not sold on the 2 coaches you mentioned at all. Everyone's been throwing their names around like infatuated girls at the high school prom. On top of that, JJ is about to pay Dak a plunger deal of record money.
I don't care how bloody unlikely it is for Aikman or Romo to work for JJ, but either one of them would be the only thing that un-breaks my apathy and gets me excited for this team's future once again.
After being a fan since the 60s, the last 25 years since Johnson left and especially last 10 years of stupidity, have totally wrecked my ability to care and I know I'm not the only long time fan who's been gutted by this circus. Without a huge Cowboy name as the face of this organisation like Aikman or Romo, in the words of JoDee Messina, "mygiveadarnsbusted."

What could you have possibly seen from Jerry - ever - that would make you think he would ever make a deal where he gives up something, but can gain nothing?

This is just opinion.

I think a lot of people are so mad at Jerry, they think Stephen will be the anti Jerry, and i dont see that happening, and for fact, Parcells was not a fan of Stephens.

He didn't with Johnny football or Dez
he also kept dak the starter over tony in 2016. Stephen is far better suited to being a gm than jerry. he doesn't get enamored with the players. he doesn't need to be in the spotlight. he's a great negotiator. and unlike in the Klingon empire, the son is not guilty of the sins of the father.

JJ had no problem firing Jimmy, a coach that actually won and built something...Jerry needing and being addicted to getting all the credit is why nothing will change until he is dead. There really isn't any reason to get upset, it is what it is...

any every year we keep complaining

who is the crazy one?

the snake oil salesman?

or the buyer of said snake oil?
Been saying it for awhile now. Jerry's issues are our own fault because we keep adding to his bank account every year.

Will never happen, the guys ego is too big, he just can't help himself. He may back off at the beginning but eventually he is going to want the control again.....unfortunately.

I fully understand that thinking and can't outright argue with it.

But two things give me at least a measure of faith that things will change:
  1. Urban Meyer is a well-established coach with skins on the wall and plenty of options. He won't simply sign up to be Jerry Jones' lap dog like Garrett.
  2. Father Time is undefeated. Jerry Jones was affected by Bob McNair's death last year and knows that he doesn't have forever to keep doing the same things and hope that it somehow results in a championship.
Those two factors give me hope that we may yet see some measure of change in the way things are handled in the organization.

I agree completely. Stephen isn't tied to short term so he isn't afraid of making a change. Stephen has probably been trying to get rid of Garrett forever and Jerry has done everything BUT fire Garrett. So Stephen made him make a goal that Garrett had to get to or else he would be fired. Made his dad promise to stick to it.

Makes sense because recently you have heard Stephen reaffirming what HAD to happen for Garrett to keep his job.

Win the title game or at least get there. Which he probably knows is NOT happening.

Jerry is not threatened by Stephen at all. At his core he doesn’t care what anyone says.

He is upset because he is all in on Jason Garrett and, while many saw this years, ago it is dawning on Jerry that he was wrong. Now the media, which coddles Jerry, is getting on him. Half the fan base, the really stupid half, also bought into Garrett. They are almost all turning now.

Jerry is embarrassed. Plain and simple. No amount of Bourbon is going to stop the embarrassment.
