Do you guys really think a new coaching staff is going to fix everything within one offseason?

If Jerry ever gets out of the way, I feel it will take two years to return to championship form. Got to undo the Garrett philosophy of 1990's Football. The coaches and the future roster has to develop a winning mentality. They need to learn (or re-learn) mental toughness, discipline, responsibility, intensity, the fundamentals and the concept of being a team. Let's not forget learning how to tackle, playing with purpose, paying attention to detail, and developing a knockout to an opposing team.

I went through the 1-15 season. It took two more years to get to the Super Bowl. I am willing to go through a rebuilding again as long as progress is being made to win Super Bowls.

Back in the 70's I used to laugh at the teams that "ushered in a new era" every 3-5 seasons.

Nope...but it beats this loser season. That HC must draft better than Garrett’s staff, which means a firmer voice with FO on that. You can’t do squat drafting a bunch of nothing like they did. What utter morons....how did they expect to wIn on a one player draft? Pollard only guy to help from that draft. That’s horrible drafting, kill any team doing that. You need those guys to perform ASAP. Not...”ohh they’ll be good in 3yrs and you shouldn’t judge a draft etc” No,that’s what excuse makers do for crappy drafting. This is realty...other teams didn’t draft like garbage and passed us by. SF ringing any bells? Here comes the Rams again too...GB,NO,etc...it’s getting old watching other teams jump gears because we got idiots backing Hill and Taco bean selections.

Could be but Garrett should also be credited for his vision and influence in helping build those better teams which he possibly didn’t have the ability to maximize.

Much like Bill built a better team for Wade which he couldn’t maximize . Time will tell pending who our new HC is and if we can hold this core of talent together while adding to it.
Yes. I do agree with that and have conceded that point to @Idgit in the past. We didn’t suck while we were rebuilding either. Romo being the most underrated of all time could’ve been the reason for most of that.

Garrett just couldn’t get to that next level.

Hypothetically speaking, lets say Dallas gets your dream staff (HC, DC, OC, and ST coordinator). Rather it be Riley, Rivera, Rhule, Meyer, etc.

Do you really believe they can change this team within an offseason?
The new HC will have to bring a modern playbook and a new scheme. That is not easy in itself. After that, comes the players....

As we all know, the culture of the Cowboys is a major problem. A new HC may help with this, but it will not solve the problem completely, especially not in one offseason. Think about it. What is one thing our players lack? Leadership. Brotherhood. Wills to win. Compassion for the game. Thinking as a unit/team rather than an individual.

You look at the Ravens and you see a classic football team. A team that has each others backs (brotherhood). Everyone in that locker room gets along. Everyone in that locker room plays for the team rather than themselves. Everyone in that locker room has energy, passion, and most of all, they have fun at the end of the day. Even though all these players chase money, contracts, and likes on social media, they don't put it ahead of football.

Our players do NOT do this. Rather it be because Jason Garrett allows it, or the culture of Jerry Jones, it will not be an easy fix AT ALL. Look at Jaylon Smith or even Zeke this season. Shannon Sharpe made a good point on Undisputed Today when talking about Le'Veon Bell and his stupid bowling situations. He said "Players today don't care about winning. They could care less about winning. They care about social media and likes." That perfectly represents our team.

Not only does the new HC have to create a new playbook, gameplan, and scheme, along with changing the culture and attitudes of our players, they have to adjust to the team themselves. Settling into a new team is very hard, especially if we grab a college HC. On top of that, our players will have to adjust as well. Some players struggle more than others when it comes to change. That will be our team next year.

On top of THAT, we have like 20 or 30+ players to resign or let go of. That likely means we will likely have a lot more new players on our team through the draft, free agency, or trading. This team may look very different from what we see today (hopefully for the better).

New players, new HC, new scheme, new culture, new attitude, new gameplan, etc. 2021 may be our year, but along with our schedule (we play the NFCW (YIKES), the NFCN (Browns may improve, Steelers look good even with injuries, and the Ravens may still be redhot), possibly the Saints if we win our division, Packers or Vikes, and more, 2020 does not look like our season at all.

I would NOT raise my expectations beyond anything we feel right now for 2020 no matter what HC or player we pick up. If you do, you will be disappointed.
considering my only goal is for clappy to go, there will be zero disappointment from me anyway.

what we have now simply isn't working. i don't think anyone is expecting any coach to come in and simply start winning and all problems solved. esp when most realize jones loves to get in his own way more often than not. i do think we have a good core that is capable of doing more than we are doing today. if we can achieve that then i would call it a success and we'll go from there.

I have trouble believing a new coaching staff can grow thumbs on DBs who can't catch a football

or roll back the clock for Frederick and Martin

or make a XWR out of any of these WRs - none are even big enough

nor do I think they can make a decent LG out of Conner - maybe flip to OT at best

this really isn't just about how to use players / scheme ... it's also the players brought in by the FO
Dave campo is known for telling the players to look for the player and not the ball. When that’s coached into you. I don’t need to explain. Go look at urban Ohio tape. Or Florida. Ints and takeaways will happen. Frederick doesn’t need the clock turned back. He is coming back from a serious illness. Another lineman had the same thing and it took him a year to get back to his old self. Martin has been dealing with back issues this season and has given up on this staff and who can blame him? We don’t need an x. We need a coaching staff that coaches and game plans to our players strengths that isn’t hamstrung by strategies that works in the 1990s.

The right head coach and this team is A perennial playoff contender. And going for a Super Bowl in year 1 or 2 under the new regime. If the right coach is brought in.

Upgrade in coaching for sure but I still think people highly over value the “talent” on this team. Funny how every week there are several threads criticizing different players for “talent” related issues, not coaching, yet I also see several comments about how much “talent” this team has.

What I see is a somewhat poorly coached team with an over rated roster but the coaching gives people an excuse for the players and therefore misguided hope that with a new coach all of the sudden this hidden “talent” will magically appear

Yep

And that’s assuming we were good enough and or better than our opponent to reach the next level.

It work for Bill Parcells in 2003, and Jimmy Johnson in 1990 who was one injury to Aikman from a 1-15 to the playoffs turnaround.

Change is good. I believe in Urban Renewal of the Dallas Cowboys.

I think the biggest question I am curious about is. What ever would you post about if the new coach came in and did fix everything and we were a contender? Just curious.

Yes. A good coach could have us in the Super Bowl next year with the talent that we have.

dude, our DBs have bad hands, of course they are coached to play the man as they are often in "man" coverage, that has nothing to do with getting your head around and making a play on the ball.

"Frederick doesn’t need the clock turned back. He is coming back from a serious illness. Another lineman had the same thing and it took him a year to get back to his old self. Martin has been dealing with back issues this season and has given up on this staff and who can blame him?"

First off, NFL stands for not for long ... most careers are cut short by physical issues.

do you imagine coaching can heal damaged cells?

Look - if either of them can't dominate or If they have mental quit for any reason, move on

Football is about toughness and execution - it's supposed to be hard.

I noticed you didn't bother to defend Conner ... personally, I can't blame that on Colombo, Moore, or Garrett - not considering the way this FO does things.

"We don’t need an x."

LOL ... you do in a timing system to sustain drives and kick *** in the red zone.

"hamstrung by strategies that works in the 1990s."

for all intents and purposes there just 2 base Os (timing and WCO) and 2 base Ds (4-3 and 3-4) that have been in place since the mid 60s, designed by geniuses like Brown, Gilman, and Landry. All have incredible variation built in.

For example, at the LOS with just 3 targets, X, Y, and Z / TE the QB can audible to 729 combinations via a 9 pattern route tree, add a 4th target and that scales to 6,500+ options. Throw in protections and formations and you're limited only by creativity.

also it's rather silly to talk about "hamstrung" by what worked in the '90s ...
when's the last time you saw this team run a lead draw or middle screen?
which I wish they would once in a while

you seem like someone who thinks R/P options were invented last year and actually believed the likes of Pedersen and McVay had some new version of the game. Those types pop up in the NFL ... hot then done ... note with roughly equal talent these once hot new coaching stars with recent SB teams are even less competitive than this disappointing Cowboys team. So much for the great man theory.

"the right head coach and this team is A perennial playoff contender. And going for a Super Bowl in year 1 or 2 under the new regime. If the right coach is brought in."

and what makes you think JJ is capable of - or willing to hire your dream coach?

all roads lead back to JJ and wishing ... is wishing

frankly, I'd rather they let Rod go and put Kellen and Kris in the booth,
I don't believe they are seeing the field well, IMO that's where play callers belong
but I don't think they are listening

also in JG's defense (btw, I never wanted him hired)
JJ forced both Rod and Scott on JG, (I never wanted them hired either)
when they got rid of Scott and inject JG's personally groomed new OC ... #1 offense
lose Rod and we actually might get a top defense - with real DTs added :) talent matters

Garrett might be the problem - but JJ definitely is the bigger problem
