I just dont think anyone (or certainly not enough people to amount to meaningful numbers) takes him serious so I'm countering the myth that he is some kind of marketing genius that fools fans every year, I dont believe he does.
I believe fans fool themselves.
We all want the team to succeed and be great and the illogical fan in all of us performs ridiculous mental gymnastics to create scenarios where the Cowboys finally appear on the road to winning it all again and that devotion causes us to see the team in an irrational and likely overrated light. (I think jeri is this type of fan too and one of the many reasons he shouldn't be GM).
IMHO, all jeri does is monetize the ridiculous devotion of Cowboy fans everywhere, who have endured in spite of jeri for a 1/4 of a century

Troy doesn’t give two craps about what Jerry thinks. He’s got a great job and if he wants to get back into football it won’t be for the Cowboys that’s for sure.

The defensive talent IS totally overrated. DT, LB and S are all average or below average. That's the spine of the D, and they're not good.
The offense is overrated too, but also talented. The OL in general is no longer top5. Smith's injuries have made his once flawless footwork an issue vs. speed rushers. Frederick isn't fully recovered. Connor Williams is nowhere near as good as Leary was in 2016.
WR is very talented. So is RB, and so is QB1.
TE is average.

The defense really isn’t that talented.
Two solid players upfront surrounded by trash. (
LB that are either terrible or are playing terrible because this team has no DT
Sean Lee is toast
Safety don’t exist
You only have one decent CB
I’m just glad the old Bastid could find a way to fit TJ Watt into his system

so you aren’t good or talented at any level of the defense outside of maybe LB
The offense is top 3 in terms of talent. Problem is you can’t run in the red zone.
Zeke should be challenging for the single season TD record.
Add on to the fact the team doesn’t force turnovers
They get nothing from special teams
They break no long rushes
Dak needs to be in the 40 TD area for this to even out.(point production to match the teams yard production)

It's on the organization, because it's the manner in which the organization is run which makes this franchise more of a circus than a football franchise.

You can be a talented team, but still be overrated. all team have talent, but are they as talented as everyone made them out to be.

I have one problem with this all laying this off on coaching, the team is underachieving because of the coaching. Coaches do not block, run, pass, catch, make penalties or tackle.
Is this a good coaching staff, no, I do not think it is but the execution of the plays on offense and basic fundamentals are lacking on defense.
The single most overrated aspect of defensive football players is tackling. Johnson had the #1 D in yardage because of the tackling. He drafted players that could tackle and they gang tackled very well. If you look at the Patriots when they are at their best, they lead the league in limiting YAC.

He's the only owner that talks to the media constantly and if you choose to google it you will find quite a few interviews where he mentions all the talent. The spectacle signing a good for one year linebacker to the team this off season as if he's lebron james.The Ezekiel Elliott contract and the mess that was. Cowboys are a draw for ratings period. He does his job selling his team well. Not sure why that even needs to be said to a cowboy fan.

Troy has a point, in that, it depends on who is doing the talking when it comes to evaluating the Dallas roster. There are some who believe it's over-rated and others who swear it's the most talented team in the league. The last six words of the preceding sentence is subject to scrutiny.
I don't consider the Cowboys as the most talented in the NFL, although it possibly belongs in the conversation that it's among them. What's most notably lacking is the average at best coaching and front office (I'm being kind) that detracts from any claims of excellence for the Cowboys.

What blows my mind is the front office's complete inability to self-scout/ self-evaluate. It's like they get their opinions of their players from the freaking media and fan message boards.
