He's a gambler. He's the polar opposite of the rest of the defensive backfield. While they're all watching the receiver, allowing them to make the quick tackle and limit yards, Lewis watches the QB and tries to jump routes. This has made him succeptable to look offs and double moves. If he'd been a starter day one with a good coaching staff, I think he'd know when to gamble and when not to. As it is, I don't think he has any idea.

Yes he's been overhyped. Not that he's terrible, but he's not as good as the love he was getting. He gambles and plays bad technique a lot of times which can lead to batted balls and INTs, which everyone loves. But it can give up big plays, too.

Edit, timestamped above!

A vanilla defense will even make Pro Bowlers look like practice squaders
This. Lewis is overhyped (and Brown is underappreciated) because he's not that good in coverage.

But the bigger issue is that the defensive approach - more than scheme - is impossible for CBs. They do dumb things like play off coverage when they blitz, or leave checkdowns unaccounted for so often, to prevent big plays, that CBs can't win.

What's Lewis true position?
What's Chido true position?

I don't know what Richard is doing and haven't since he got to DAL.

They are playing him out of position.
Lewis isn't a slot cover guy.

he should be getting more of Chido's snaps on the edge. Not as big as Chido but significantly better ball skills and a more consistent tackler in run support as well.

JL can play. He's just not being used to his best skillset.

Exactly.

I see him more of an outside guy
Lots a great CB’s would not necessarily be great slot guys
One thing for sure, he gets more picks than the rest combined

He’s calling plays. He’s not some assistant shoved in a corner like his “fans” would have you believe. If he gets all the credit for last year why would Marinelli be the only one to get blame this year?

Best CB on the team. 24 and 31 don’t care enough about football. Lewis plays with an edge, by far the best ball hawk in the team, best tackler in the secondary. Guy is a player.
