As long as Garrett still has the job, the odds that Jerry finds an excuse to keep him are 50 50. If Jones cared about what the rest of the sane world thought, Garrett would have been gone years ago.

Even the great salesman knows he can't polish this turd any longer.

He can't sell what no one will buy.

This farce is over.

I see so many posters saying we can't afford to pay this contract or that one.

We can afford it becuz in the end we the fans will cover it.

The ownership knows they will raise ticket prices and suite costs, vendor fees and advertising fees not to mention increased TV contracts to reline their banking balances plus interest.

Not to mention increased salary cap space each year to do it on paper.

So stop worrying about it.

Worry about dropped passes, missed tackles, and Garrett going for it on 4th down inside our own 40 in the upcoming games to try to save his job.

That stuff is what is ahead. Garrett finding a way to give Jerrah a reason to keep him is where we need to be worried.

Garrett has slipped off his baited hook so many times he is a worm with 9 lives.

Cowboys can afford whoever they want. They would prefer not to go back to the restructuring route and or get stuck with bad contracts(LOL). But they still set up deals to be restructured down the road if needed be.

Stephen is trying to be that tough guy negotiator but the players know Jerry will fold before there's a threat they could leave/sit out.

Despite Jerry's "protests and proclamations", I can't see another team rushing to hire Garrett after watching him drive the Cowboys ship into the iceberg this year. Anyone objectively looking from the outside can see that this was always a Jerry Jones vanity project that never came to fruition. And no other team or owner would have been this patient this long (save for maybe Brown and the Bengals and look where their exceeding patience with Marvin Lewis got them?)

Garrett talks it better than he walks it, so maybe he has a future in broadcasting or administration if he wants it? But the fact is, head coach just isn't his thing and he should give up that dream. The guy conned Jones out of about $50 million so he should be set financially and not be forced to work again at all if he doesn't want to.
I am assuming he retires off into the wild. But I would love to see what he has to say after he is gone. Whether he mentions anything about having his hands tied for 10 years.

Dak is as good as signed. They are just getting the length of contract worked out. I will be glad when it’s done so we can move on and complain about something else. Maybe they tag him for a year and that will drag out the complaining. Lol.

He polished it up after the string of 8 and 8 seasons. He even found a way to polish it after 1 and 10 without Romo. A wildcatter can find a way to sell a dry hole after years of failure.

That was years ago. The ruling is in, his pet project is a failure. Even he can't lie to himself about it any longer.

He didn't let Garrett's contract go into this season to extend him after this failure. The organization had every chance to 'sell' Garrett to everyone after last year, and that late season rally and playoff win. And they actively chose not to. Garrett has confirmed to everyone exactly what he is. In a sink or swim year, he sank, dramatically.

They're not about to try to extend him now after this collapse.

Garrett is gone and it just doesnt matter. Had the Cowboys fired him years ago, we might have some semblance of a football team.

Any contract the team makes is a bad contract because as soon as the player signs it they suck.

It seems that this is the New Sports World Order. In the NBA the players do it a different way by utilizing, "Load Management" as an excuse to take time off. In the NFL they choose to do it by taking themselves out of plays ( a la Zeke ), or just simply keep their heads out of the rough plays as to not get hurt, (a la Jaylon Smith) or simply not give a crap ( a la Tank Lawrence).

This is not our fathers Sports World anymore

Just look at teams like Philly. They are proof the salary cap does not matter one bit.

I would be shocked. Good, bad, or ugly, Garrett has to be eternally grateful for what the Jones family has done for his, so I would never expect to hear a peep out of him otherwise.

If Garrett manages to back into a playoff spot its very likely Jerry uses that as an excuse to retain that moron. And like others have said, if that happens I'm finding something else to do on Sundays.

I completely agree. All these clowns need to do is beat Philadelphia. They do that and they will host a playoff game. Minnesota and Seattle are good teams but not unbeatable. Dallas at home could win. If that happens, even if they go 7-9 or 8-8, the chance of Garrett being re-signed is high. My sense is that they will make Rod/Kris the scapegoats. Hire a new DC and spin that as the missing piece.

Wash, rinse, repeat...

As of now it's still undetermined.

If they miss the playoffs= fired
If they happen to make the palyoffs but lose in rds 1 or 2= fired
If they go to the Championship game and lose= ??? 3 year extension ???
If they somehow go beyond the Championship game= 10 year extension
They don't even have to fire him.

Short of winning a SB I don't think he's back. It's clear that he is not a reason why this team wins.
