Couch, instead of disagreeing with you let me present this to you for the sake of another angle. I know that it's easy to cherry pick and just point fingers at Jerry for wanting a new stadium, but there is much more to the story. Bill Parcells was also hired to RESTORE credibility to the cowboys and after he did so he was indeed expendable.

I honestly see the Cowboys right back where they we're after Chan Gailey and Dave Campo. Those were two horrible head coaches and the star was tarnished, so bring in parcells. Both Gailey and Campo made up of about 5 years of a failed experiment and Jones was ready for the boys to be competitive again. Of course after Parecells comes wade phillips for 4 years and Garrett for 9 years. That is 13 years of dysfunction after parcells, so to assume that Jerry isn't ready for a real coach after 13 years of doing it his way and failing is ludicrous.

I think if you look at history, and just how dysfunctional things have become it's not as easy to just assume Jerry is going after another puppet.
Yea but part of that restoration needed from Parcells was to gain public support for Jerry’s stadium.

Jerry doesn’t want to make change now with Garrett still hanging on to hope we’ll turn it around is the greatest example he’s not ready to move on or over for a HC who demands more control.

Jerry thinks he’s built a Super Bowl caliber Team not needing a Named HC like Bill to rebuild.

Anyone who thinks Jerry’s ready to give it up hasn’t been paying attention. Yes, he realizes he will have have to let Garrett go but the fact he’s hanging on this long tell us all we need to how resistant he is and that doesn’t bode well moving forward.

A named HC coming in and having immediate success would further prove how wrong he’s been.

So what you're saying is he can't have a big name coach come in because he might turn things around? Do you know how ludicrous that sounds? So are you saying that he will hire another puppet with the hopes that he sprinkle's magic puppet dust over the team that wills them to victories? I think your missing the point that a puppet will not get it done! Jerry had the talent this year to prove it, the players gave up on the process and are flat out losing and screaming for direction.

Also for you to assume that the only reason that Jerry hired parcells was for the stadium is just parroting what other people have said when in fact if you look, it goes deeper than that. Jerry needed to also bring a winning culture back to the organization so that was part of it as well. Jerry was keeping his fingers crossed that his freckled hand picked genius puppet could figure out a way to motivate the team with his process but that proved to be a false narrative. If you really believe Jerry thinks he doesn't need a great great coach to get to another level I don't know what to say to you.. Do you think Jerry hired Jason knowing he would never be a great coach? Of course he didn't, and his gamble didn't pay off and now he is back to where he was before he hired Parcells forced to bring is something credible.

I didn’t say Jerry doesn’t think he needs a great coach. I’m saying he’d deliberately not hire one assuming he’d even attract one.

Jerry now even realizing Garrett isn’t enough is holding onto the glimmer of hope it might work out enough to save face because the thought of having to bring in another HC is why hes been going off.

Jerry remaining GM ( and he knows that he’s not enough either admitting he’d of fired himself) and not willing to bring more Named HC is in effect sabotaging Cowboys Football.

And yes, I understand how ludicrous it sounds but that’s the world we live in with Jerry. Lol

Jerry wants a HC like Garrett so if we have success Jerry will receive more credit than he did with Jimmy. And why we are where we are now almost 25 years later.

john, I think you underestimate the comfort level of a 78 year old billionaire, not many do what they have to do. He addressed this as being his major concern in changing coaches, he is not hiring anyone that doesn't understand how he fits in the Grand Scheme and making Booger comfortable is job 1.

I wish I could agree but this is not a man that does what he has to do, he does what he wants to do. People do not change without the proper circumstances and that is not present with Booger. Hire the right HC or sell the boat, maybe that works?

There are two parts to this hiring. First the guy, will he get any power or is this the honeymoon stage and when he comes back to the harsh reality that is Booger, how will he handle that?

Parcells once said that managing Booger was part of the job but even that didn't work as he brought in the last player that Parcells would have ever wanted on his team. He failed to keep Booger from himself but then Booger already had what he wanted so he could have cared less.

john, there is a video of Booger drunk in a bar talking about why he hired Parcells, you might want to take a look at that.

Here's the problem. After Parcells fired Broaddus he became a regular on Galloway's radio show, because he still had contacts at Valley Ranch, and one day I am listening and he begins to describe the state that Booger is in because he's been forced to take a back seat to Parcells. All of the usual announcements and post game comments and pc's are coming from Parcells, who will not even allow other coaches to grant interviews. He said that the family and people at VR were concerned about Booger because he's so depressed. He was going through celebrity withdrawal.

After Parcells, he did everything most HC's do, injury announcements and even beat his own HC to the post game comments and made contradictory statements like the search for a PK.

If anyone has watched the egocentric and narcissistic tendencies of this man, to think he will give up any of that to a HC ever again is to ignore human traits. He is never relinquishing what he sees are his fun duties as the GM because that's his tie to show business, he's a freaking Kardashian, a celebrity and no one is really sure how all of this happened but it's not going back. And no HC is going to steal his spotlight for any reason.

OK, knock it off. Rhule wants more control than Booger will give him.

If you are saying that an egotistical narcissist is going to give up any spotlight to a HC, I could not disagree more. Being this self made celebrity is Booger's lifeline. He sees himself as important and relevant, he's a star in his mind.

I just read on the Cowboys wire that he might be leaning towards not hiring a college football coach saying they aren't all fine NFL personnel and reminding us that Jimmie Johnson went 1 in 15 his rookie season? Well any moron could figure that out because they didn't have any Talent whatsoever Troy Aikman got the crap beat out of him no offensive line no defense my God what would you expect

I don't know what's going on this phone he was saying college coaches weren't up on all the NFL personnel and inner workings and would take too long to adjust? The more I hear about Lincoln Riley I don't believe that but you never know

Keep in mind I'm not arguing with you in regards to Jerry and his issues, I'm basically just disagreeing with you in the fact that Jerry has hit rock bottom and his mindset has likely changed somewhat. The freckled puppet experiment has blown up in Jerry's face at epic proportions. Never has he been made fun of at these lengths nationally.

I get why everyone thinks Jerry is stubborn and will likely continue with the same losing trends, but one has to believe that what goes down must come up or it just wilts away until there is nothing left, and that is where we're at.

Who is going to be easier to deal with? A college HC that doesn't need the job or a hungry HC out of work or a coordinator needing to move up the ladder?

And if you're a college coach, you come into the NFL with one strike against you and you were used to picking your own players. That's why Kelly pushed Lurie to circumvent the GM about personnel, his rep was on the line. He ruined it anyway but at least he did it his way.

If I was a hot college HC commodity, the Cowboys would be my 32nd choice because of the involvement of the Joneses, which is probably more than we even think it is. And he'd have to make sure he didn't make an enemy of the weasel, Booger's first born, who was responsible for Phillips' firing and I believe the "reliable source". He's Wormtongue.

I’m not sure it matters as long as Jerry is still GM.

We’ve had better and more proven HC this era with no more success.

I can’t post it on this forum but everyone should read the column in our local paper on Jerry's intent after all of these years to still be everything Dallas Cowboys.

We have fans who don’t think our local media calls Jerry out then I’d argue you aren’t paying attention.

It's not like its a big secret either. Jerry is quoted as saying many times he want to win. To win another SB.

As long as HE gets the credit for it.

How much clearer does it need to get?

He's probably referring to Kingsbury, they had to hire his staff for him, he didn't have the contacts.

I also believe that you're underestimating human nature. Sure it's hard to change one stripes but I've seen people on both sides of this. I've seen people hit rock bottom and change their lives, and I've see people whom just get worse. I agree it stretch to assume Jerry sees the error of his ways, but it's not in my nature to give up on a man and improving his character. I've seen people much like Jerry whom live with pride so much to a point where they let that pride run off everyone that they love. I've also saw that same person come back on their knees full of apologies and regret and changed forever.

When I watch Jerry lately, I see a man getting ready to crack, someone whom knows he was defeated by life and his poor choices. Sure he is a billionaire and owns one of the most visible franchises in the world, but that doesn't make him immune to progress and growth. Lets make no mistake about it, Jason Garrett and the 9 years given to him is one of the biggest mistakes Jerry has every made and he is most definitely paying for this mistake now. He kept his fingers crossed that he could buy enough talent to cover Jason's warts, but no matter how much he spent he can't polish a turd. The man has to be having a come to Jesus about right now, that is all there is to it.

Oh, I completely disagree, this team is only down in the power ranking, it is still the #1 ratings and revenue team, where Booger keeps score. This team is far far from rock bottom when real changes must be made.

I do agree he doesn't like being called out by the media but this is temporary and Booger still has his fans that believe in him. He can make an illusionary move and everything will quieten down but he will not relinquish control to any HC.

There is 0 doubt in my mind that the duties of the HC and GM will be fully outlined to any candidate. And some HC's don't like the spotlight, so that will work for him just as it has with all but two of his HC's.

This (the bolded) is exactly what it all boils down to... He is so hellbent on receiving credit to prove he's a football guy and have full control of what players do (in the game) without letting the HC do his job that he is willing to sabotage the team rather than tuck in his tail and actually get a real HC and relinquish control (even if it's just on the field control). If people have been listening to the interviews, they would notice Jerry saying (so and so player) didn't do this or that correctly which is why we lost. Comments like that should be coming from the coach... Not from Jerry...

Nope, I am an observer of human nature and anything that includes giving up the spotlight and being the face of the franchise will not fly with him. He's a celebrity addict.

Do you really think he's going to give up being the spokesperson for the Cowboys?

I'll be perfectly honest. I used to question people's fanhood when I saw comments like this but lately, my tune has changed to where I actually believe in this theory more and more...
I'll always be a huge Cowboy fan but in reality theres nothing you can do when you have a situation like we do. It's a shame too because Jerry is one owner that would actully pay for a really good GM if his ego weren't so huge and we might have been able to have something really special instead of 20+ years of complete inconsistancy.
