I think you can pretty much connect the dots to Urban Meyer at this point.

Meyer is a short term hire that will have this team competing right away. I’m not sure he would stick around for tough times but Jerry is going to take that risk in order to get back to title contention.

I like Riley and he’s my favorite of the bunch, but Meyer has the credentials, he’s older, he has experience facing the media, and has the roster to run his spread offense right away.

I don’t know much about Urban Meyer but why is he viewed as toxic for other colleges?

Because he is perceived as a liar, opportunist and will excuse bad behavior by his players just to win. He basically lied about knowing that Zack Smith beat his wife, and threw his OWN WIFE under the bus. He always says he has health problems to exit jobs only to reappear at another job and he winked at the bad characters on Florida's team including Aaron Hernandez, who had quite a reputation at Florida and who ultimately murdered a man while he played for the Patriots.

3 places. He was the coach of Utah for two years, leading them to a 10-2 and a 12-0 record, including a bowl win over Alabama.

This is a tough one because offering a defense of this domestic abuse thing makes one sound like they are condoning domestic violence.
The article says Meyer and his wife offered to help Smith and his wife get counseling. I'm failing to see where Urban Meyer is the monster in all of this.
I know its not popular but people who are accused of domestic violence are not typically immediately fired from their jobs. According to the article they investigated thousands of emails and text messages and they said he did not try to cover or condone Smiths behavior.

Honestly it sounds like Meyer was a good friend to Zach Smith and Meyer and his wife tried to help Smith and his wife with their domestic and marriage troubles.

As for Florida...... blaming Urban Meyer for Aaron Hernandez killing someone 10 years later is a reach that looks to be a hit job on Meyers character. Are we blaming Bill Billichek for his active player murdering someone? Check out some of Bobby Bowden or Jimmy Johnsons teams over the years. As a college coach your are paid to win games and in Florida Meyer recruited from schools and neighborhoods where many of the kids didnt grow up with great role models. Blaming a coach for the actions of some college kids is ridiculous.

agreed. There is such a thing as personally responsibility.

The NCAA is also high handed with their BS.

You can’t condone people being abusive of course. But at the end of the day. Winning football games isn’t about having 53 choir boys either.

I honestly don’t care if players are saints off the field. Within reason.

Really? I really like Urban Meyer but I will be very surprised if he agrees to come here. All I’ve seen to indicate he might has been pure media hype and fan hope.

I hope hope I’m wrong but when you say “Jerry is going to take that risk in order to get back to title contention“....how do we know that? I just don’t see Jerry being that contrite. He sounds like from what he’s been saying, he’s doubling down on “his way” of doing things, not an empowerment of a new HC and leader. Again, hope I’m wrong. But the hype about getting “a real coach” at this point is just hope.

Myers though I would like it is just too obvious and anointed too soon. My guess is that Jerry will give him the intense interview and "see" if there are any loopholes in Myer's personality that would lend him to being a semi-puppet as time goes by. My guess is that it's going to be another coach already in (or retired) from the NFL that could give Jerry more wiggle room than Myer likely would. I would look for another team's coordinator or someone that has been retired from the NFL for a time. Maybe someone from the booth.

I don’t know much about Urban Meyer but why is he viewed as toxic for other colleges?

One of his assistant coaches at Ohio State was involved in a domestic violence incident and Meyer didnt report it to the University.

He received a 3 game suspension after the University conducted an investigation and determined he violated University rules by not reporting. He returned after the suspension and finished the season, but announced his retirement from the program at the end of the season due to "health reasons".

It is rumored that his resignation was part of deal worked out with the University where they would suspend him for a several games and then he would retire at end of season and in exchange they would not fire him.

That is why he is considered toxic to another University.
