For 1st round pick is it more important to get DL or CB?

I think the FO wanted Thornhill and got talked into Hill
and from the outside looking in, it seems that Jerry & Stphen have been prioritizing the wants of an ineffective and outdated defensive coordinator over the opinions of the professional talent evaluators.

Thats the most troubling aspect of last years draft.

The came right out and said they needed to upgrade the safety position. They bring in practically ever Safety that would have been available to them. Marinelli successfully politics for his project. Several months later they negotiate to the wire for Jamal Adams

ALWAYS depends on who is there and do they deserve to be taken that early.

Taking a 2nd round value player in the 1st based on perceived need is fastest way to blow a draft and maybe skip over a star.
Just take the best player when you are up
Looking at our roster there are few spots we couldn’t use good players at
Just don’t reach for need

Gonna need help at CB, since Jones is all but assured of walking, and I really want guys who actually play the ball (I watch a lot of NFL in general, and you have no idea how jealous I am when I see other teams' corners put in real effort to go after the ball), our lack of turnovers has been a HUGE problem.
Interior DL needs help too, especially with this Woods situation (ugh). Really want a good run stuffer.
Wanted us to try to go after Vita Vea at the deadline. A player like him who's big, and collapses the pocket will be a game-changer for our run defense, and free up the rest of the line on passing downs. They don't have the flashy numbers but man can they change the game.

I hope we lose out and the Eagles make the playoffs because we can't beat winning teams. If that happens we will pick in the top 15, and the new HC might give us a sign on where we go with that pick.

Just way to early to know what we might do. A lot is going to depend on who the new HC is and the type of O and D he prefers.

Derrick Brown DT Auburn

probably won’t fall to us, but he’s awesome
Brown reminds me too much of Collins. Yes he makes plays, but he gets blown up just as much. He's a win or lose player, theres no middle ground. Alot like Maliek

DL or CB is going to be the pick for sure.

On offense, I am assuming we are going to get the Dak and Cooper deals done, so other than them, the only starter we have walking is Randall Cobb (meh) and Jason Witten (begone!). The OL is starting to age, but I don't see that being worth a premium pick unless a stud just falls into our lap.

On defense, we are literally losing our entire DL except Lawrence. Robert Quinn, free agent. Michael Bennett, free agent. Maliek Collins, free agent. Antwaun Woods, free agent. Christian Covington, free agent. Right now, our 2020 starting DL is Dorance Armstrong - Trysten Hill - Daniel Wise - DLaw. It's a 2014 level nightmare aside from Lawrence. We may resign some of those FAs, but reinforcements are going to be BADLY needed. I don't think fans realize how much we're going to miss Quinn in particular.

LB is set; Jaylon and LVE's contracts ensure they will get a pass and return to start in 2020 without any competition. We'll add a JAG or two for depth, whatever.

As far as DBs, Byron is probably gone, and so is Anthony Brown. Our CBs are basically Chido, Lewis, and no one. SS is LOLbad. I think Xavier Woods is the kind of average player who looks good with good players around him and bad with bad players around him, so I'm not writing him off yet; I think he's still a useful piece. But out of 5 starters in the secondary, we'll probably need 3 new ones.

So with crisis zones at DL and DB and things looking pretty well set everywhere else, I think it's clear where our resources are going this draft.

Glad you’re not in charge.
Yes, building a dominant offense in a league where every rule favors the offense is a bad approach, especially compared to drafting a CB who can't influence a game unless an offense allows it.

It's not the 1990s, building a defense to win games 16-10 is poor planning.
