i was thinking about coming in and posting something similar. it was fun to see the cowboys tear it up for a change. the problem is "for a change". inconsistency is their only consistency anymore. they can't do it week in and week out.

i'm just tired of this iteration of the cowboys. good enough to be not too bad, but never good enough to feel good about.

This team may be fools gold but not the win. They dominated a team that was hot coming in and needed a win. That was a legit win. Now they also had 10 days to prepare among other things. But you can’t say fools gold.
i think it describes it fine. yay we won and all, but history from many ghosts of seasons past say we'll turn around and tank next week maybe the week after. when they break that streak and show they can put a 12-4 type season together, i'll say they dominated a season.

dominating a game - oh well. if you wish to prop that up as an example i'll prop up 7 other games this year to match ya.

Not buying the Fools Gold on this particular win. It was the most complete win this year against a good opponent. We had a balanced attack led by the rushing game which is our bread and butter as it hides the defenses blemishes while eating up clock.........Time of Possesion Dallas 36 Rams 23, roughly

I’m not propping anything up. They deserve credit for getting a win I didn’t think they would get. I’m not gonna take this pessimist attitude about it though. I’m along for the ride until the wheels fall off and I’m on to next season. We are in a playoff race. I’m not gonna be miserable about that.

This Win is Fools Gold. Im not drinking the Kool-Aid again and have stopped doing it for a Long time.

The Cowboys have done this throughout the JG-Era. Whenever they and him have the back against the wall they play like this and win as an Underdog. Whenever it matters they fold like my old Camping chair.

This Season has been a disaster and one win against a winning Team doesnt make it much better.

I have seen this Movie too many Times under Jason Garrett.

It wouldnt surprise me if they lose to the Eagles next week or lose out.
It also wouldnt surprise me if they somehow make the Playoffs but get rolled in the first Round.

Will it be a successful season if we make the Playoffs with 8-8 or 9-7 and get smoked in the first Round?

For me a good season means you have improved from last year (exception if you are really rebuilding).
Last Seasons Team had a better record and won a Playoff game.

So for me if they wont make it past the Div.Round, this Season has been a Fail.

One Thing is for sure. As long as JG and Jerry have the saying this Team, as talented as they are will never overcome Coaching and Ownership.

Agree with most of this.

Last year we should have been 9-7. That TD catch by ColeB vs the Giants was amazing.

Agree.

In past seasons, the run game protected our weak defense. See 2014 as an example.

It'll all be up to Papa Jerry! He's just looking for an excuse to keep Red clapping, even if there's riots in the streets of Dallas! :omg:
in years past, i believed that. in those years you *never* heard credible reports of jones "coach shopping". you never heard jones publicly come down on garret or any coach. we all know jones holds on too long to players, so why not a coach is honestly loves and cares for like family? it's just his nature. but that nature has worn down over time and anything short of a superbowl or some form of playoff domination, we're toast.

look at any valid playoff team we've seen this year. it ain't happening. we just get in our own way and pull out our book of excuses and say we're going to learn from this. all we've learned in the last decade is we have not learned a thing.

I believed that for a while too, until recently when Jerry started crawfishing about how he'd consider keeping JG if we get to the playoffs. That ripped it for me! I don't trust Jerry to keep his word about anything any more. He's gone back on his promises enough to make a Billy goat gag. Anything is possible with that man! I'll believe he'll let JG walk when I see it -- otherwise, anything goes, even though I'm hoping you're right.

Not even the Ravens, Chiefs, Patriots, Saints, Vikings and 9rs have played like we did against the Rams all year. No team can keep churning 44 points and be dominating like this game after game all season. Our defense was very good yesterday as well. Of course the teams I mentioned have won more consistently and have been more competitive than us. I believe we are not going to wipe the floor with the Eagles but we are capable of beating them.
We don't have to play as well as we did yesterday we just have to play well half the time we don't do that comprende?

all any of us can do is hope.

hope garret either FINALLY gets it
or
hope jones finally gives up on him trying

but a great game from this team is, as the OP put it, fools gold, anymore.

I am skeptical this team can duplicate this performance, but I feel like they learned some things about themselves (especially on defense) that might help them going forward.
Firstly, Antwuan Woods might be the most important player on the defense....which is scary....not much behind him.
Secondly, all this stunting they were doing has been figured out by opposing teams. Nice to see them minimize this.
Third, I don't know technically what changed, but something got into Awuzie......if that player shows up every week this defense could be really tough to score on.
Finally, they used all there personnel on both sides of the ball. Pollard, Jarwin, Covington, even Donovan Wilson got some work in and all performed admirably.

The fools gold is the losing streak the Cowboys were on and you haters were loving. We saw who the Cowboys really are versus the Rams. Teams can underestimate them at their own risk. This team can beat anyone.

I kinda agree with the OP. For some reason, although I enjoyed watching the boys win, I can't get excited about it or feel somehow that it's a portent of things to come. The Cowboys have just done this crap too often. Think about it... we've lost against some of the worst teams in the league this year, not just once but multiple times. And now, now that Garrett's back is against the wall and it looks like heads are finally gonna roll, we get a dominant win against a great defense. Why can't we play this way all the time??? Like the OP said, I fully expect us to fall against the E-girls next week or make it and get smoked in the first round. I love the cowboys and have been a fan longer than most people on this board have been alive (45 years). My Christmas tree is decorated in silver and blue with a cowboys ornament for goodness sake but I can't but feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Man I hope I'm wrong and the cowboys go all the way. I will gladly accept that but I don't believe that I will be the case. I've seen this movie too many times.

Let's see if our heroes can repeat their excellence again in Philly.

They'll either make it or break it . . . balls to the wall, so to speak.
Philly is a dumpster fire. Beating them will win the division but it doesn't move the Cowboys up in reputation. Only beating higher ranked teams will rehabilitate their tainted reputation this season. Even as the 5th seed, the 49ers will be expected to end the Cowboys season in the first round of the playoffs. Beating the 49ers is the kind of statement the Cowboys need to be taken seriously. Beating the Seahawks or Packers in the divisional round will shock the world. Our heroes have all this to look forward to and more.

I'm expecting it'll be plenty cold in Philly next Sunday. Our Cowboys are notorious for playing poorly in cold weather, so there's that to consider. Even if we're able to pull of a win there, though, the first playoff game should be much tougher to extract a win from. It'll be interesting to see what develops, in any event. Let's just hope Jerry stays true to his word and makes arrangements for some wholesale changes, come what may. ;)
