For all of the fans that think Jerry 'overpays everybody', this is how it would work if we didn't pay someone like Tank:

- Tank enters FA and gets the same money Dallas gave him from someone else.
- We try to plug a DE into his position, but he won't be as good b/c DEs like Tank are not a dime a dozen
- Unable to get pressure on the QB, fans complain because we let Tank go and demand that we sign a high-priced FA.

On the topic of this thread. I do think the cowboys need to continue drafting QB’s in the mid rounds, to develop as back ups.

Drafting Mike White in the 5th was a good decision even though it didn’t work out.

They should be drafting a QB with a mid round pick every couple years. Never know if you’ll strike gold.

It's not always as black and white, you know, because it could be said that the team doesn't "execute" or the coaching..or whatever the issue is.

However, it would be nice if we could get lucky with a decent back up QB. It doesn't happen often, but it does. Look at what Tomlin and Pittsburgh has done with their handful of back ups. Or, you know, Philly..New England..

It's almost as if good QBs are hard to find..

Right. If we need a good backup because the team takes multiple weeks off during the season, we're in trouble. You can add the Bills and Bears to that list, sorry, but I think they're bums. Maybe we're bums too.

One more thing. I'm pretty sure even if we had beaten the Jets, the Eagles could still take the division as long as they win out.

We can't get a legitimate backup. Imagine if we had a guy like teddy bridgewater here. Then you have games like patriots, or bills, or bears where we leaned on the starters arm and fall way short of a winnable game. jerry doesn't want a controversy in regards to the starting QB, he doesn't want competition, and doesn't want to invest in a guy he hopes not to use. Honestly though rush should be fine. Rush is more than capable of doing what dak does best, thats handing the ball to zeke.

You make a good point. Someone else said this to me a few days ago, can't remember who, but technically you're right. I'll admit, I'm doing a lot of assuming based on what we saw in pre-season. Something about him I didn't like. You also won't find me in any of the praise Rush threads when he had that good pre-season. I didn't like any of it.

Hey there! I have stated before that if I were forced to make a choice between Dak and other players I would select other players, but I can’t say that I have not seen some improvement in his performance this year. As the poster before me pointed out: you deserve credit for sticking to your guns regarding Dak’s lack of credit for the teams success.
I am, admittedly, assuming that some of that is based on the overall success of the defense based on that stat. However, that has felt like a very empty stat to me. I know the numbers are there... somehow. I can’t help but believe that some of that must be be coming from garbage time stat padding time.

Take your HOMER blinders off for a nanosecond: Does that squad for 16 consecutive weeks look like the 7th best def team in the NFL?

How many "legit" back up QBs do you see in the NFL? Some teams can't even find a decent starter. If your back up is any good he'll be signed by someone else as soon as he's available.

The days of having Danny White behind Staubach for 6 or 7 years are long gone.

Look all around the NFL. There aren't enough QBs for all 32 teams let alone enough for a good back up QB. Teddy Bridgewater is probably the only good back up QB in the NFL.
