Why?

Coffee dehydrates you and makes you pee.

Two things you don't want during a game, as an athlete.
every drink makes you pee, if you dehydrate you pee less but I agree its an odd drink to have during a game.. typically water, Gatorade, and special energy drinks but once an athlete has a ritual ie a habit and it works, they are superstitious they will continue to do it..

Lee is one of the guys I’d love to see win a SB.

The production from the second-oldest Dallas defender (he is 33 while midseason-acquisition Michael Bennett is 34) both amazed teammates and was no surprise at all. The same, more than 10 teammates said this week, of Lee drinking coffee on the sideline. None of the players — even veteran tight end Jason Witten, in his 16th NFL season — have ever known another teammate to reach for coffee midgame, they said. But “if you play long enough, you have quirks,” Witten told USA TODAY Sports. “He may be the quirkiest of us all.”

Safety Jeff Heath has tried it. Linebacker Joe Thomas thinks his mix-up came in Week 3.

“I accidentally picked it up and drank it and was like, ‘What the [expletive] is this?’” Thomas told USA TODAY Sports. “But it actually gave me a little boost. So whenever I see it, I’ll take a little sip.

good post.

I’m a huge SLee fan.

it’s sad that so many people hated on #50 during the preseason, and during the season.

He’s clearly still our best LB at the moment.

I hope we get at least one more season from him.

With a name like Sean Lee i'm surprised it's not Irish coffee.

I wonder if you're allowed to have an alcoholic drink while playing? Just wondering.

I used to drink a pre workout drink, C-4, at lunchtime at work. I would tear it up installing pipe afterwards. That stuff is fabulous.

Also, I live about 10 minutes from Philadelphia. I can see their skyline from my house. There's a company around here here called Drink a Toast that makes a product called Boost. It's a syrup you mix with water to make a drink that tastes like a flat cola. It's delicious. Loaded with sugar. You'll be bouncing off the walls. Lol.
It's best served as a slushie. So darn good.
It's a very local drink enjoyed by about 3-4 counties in NJ and maybe in NE Philly.
Here's a link to their site.

Wow, he drinks coffee! What a FREAK!

How many millions of people drink coffee? This is thread worthy?

LOL, what is this mystery drink? I think it's more about when he's drinking coffee. I drink coffee all the time. I must have played 1000 football games between organized and sandlot. Never once did I think of grabbing a hot coffee during a game. Nor have I ever seen someone else do so.

Maybe that's why he keeps getting soft tissue injuries. Dehydration.

Coffee does not cause dehydration. It is a mild diuretic that will cause you to pee, but not excessively. I love a good cup of coffee sitting in a cold duck blind in the morning.

I've seen worse. Had a team mate who drank beer on the sideline. Explained why he was paranoid about his 'special' water bottles getting mixed up with the team gatorade, water etc.
