And people scoffed at me when I said the play would go one way, and he would run the other way. He’s awful.

35 million dollars was guaranteed. Simply unbelievable. No other team in the NFL would have drafted him in the second round. No other team would have let him play when he was limping and killing the team. No other team would have given him that contract. Only a team where the Owner pretends to be a GM can do these things. We are in the entertainment business not the winning football games business.

Exactly. Jerry is in the entertainment, refreshment, and corporate party business. As long as the team wins just enough to keep people coming and spending money, its all good. On Jerrys Powerpoint slide, winning a super bowl is a small piece of the pie.

I have never seen a middle line backer run around plays to avoid contact then high five his teammates after the tackle like he does. Countless times guys were laying their bodies on the line last night as he pranced around watching.
Dont remember Barbie Carpenter? Avoided contact like cats avoid getting wet.

I just wanted to say that I was proud of the defensive effort from the majority of the team. Most of the guys fought super hard and were laying it all out on the line for the win. Some guys that I have been low on before such as Heath, Jones and Woods were really selling out. Lee was awesome. Lawrence and Quinn and Lewis all great. These guys really wanted to win and it showed.

I feel badly that they were let down by the coaching staff and the front office who thoughtlessly make them play with what is essentially 10 men on the field by leaving Jaylon Smith out there for 100% of the defensive plays. His level of play and physical presence is honestly the worst I have ever seen. His teammates must hate him at this point. I can't imagine what the room is like when they go over the film. Every single play is mind blowing.

Man your standards are low, the Eagles were on practice squad receivers, Ertz was hurt and still allowed Wentz to throw over 300 yards, got 1 sack and zero turnovers..nothing to be proud of

Honestly Carpenter would represent a major upgrade. Not even Barbie was this bad and he was awful. Another good example of Jerruh screwing the pooch and drafting the coaches nephew or whatever. Such a joke.

To me Jaylon is a pure run and chase westside linebacker. Put him up against blockers or having to get through the wash and you may as well play with 10 guys.

The defense should've crushed them. They played down to the Eagles level and allowed them to score. 1 sack, no turnovers.

Why is that other offenses starting backup WRs and QBs can move the ball at will on our defense, but we can't do the same with all of our starters on O?

LOL.

Jaylon Smith, the new whipping boy. Tank Lawrence should send him flowers and candy, since he no longer will be the target of angry, bitter Cowboys fans.

It is bewildering to me... Jaylon was a consensus top 5 pick if he was healthy

He was touted as this instinctual, athletic freak of a LBer. His second year with Dallas he was making plays all over the field with LVE.

This year? It’s like he has turned into a soft, selfish, fundamentally unsound player that seems to care more about his businesses and brands off the field

Most disappointing player in 2019 for me.

It's the coaches job to put guys in places that maximizes their strengths and avoids/hides their weaknesses from being exposed. In my opinion, Jaylon's health did not regress and he's the same guy that he was last year when he was a beast in the making. This coaching staff has turned this team of men into a bunch of powderpuffs. F this country club environment. Most of these guys still struggle to make the right life choices and this culture is setting them all up for failure post-football.

I mean they held them to 17 points in their own building. When you are toting a top rated offense like we supposedly had, 17 points should have been MORE than enough against an Eagles team that had a crappy defense.

They weren't flawless on defense for sure. I hate our soft scheme. I know this won't play with the "Smith sucks" crowd, but our LBs are asked to do things that boggle the mind. They make such deep drops, for example, that they leave the middle of the field in the 6-8 yard range wide open. Eagles had a 1st and 20............. Richard has our LBs drop deep and they get an easy 7 yard gain over the middle. 2nd and like 13. Again, our LBs drop way deep and another easy 6 yard pick up over the middle. Suddenly, Philly is now in a more manageable 3rd and 7ish. Luckily, Wentz threw a turd and they didn't convert on that situation.

But it's happened before. It happened in the Saints game, I believe, where we had them behind the chains big time on first down and we went soft and they eventually picked up the first because we gave them really easy 7-8 yard pick ups on 1st and 2nd down.

i believe i've seen everybody on the team this year have good games and bad games. I know Jerry was on the defense a couple of weeks ago to make a play, but in today's modern game, I think if you manage to hold a team under 20 you ought to win the game. Compare our offense $ vs Eagles offense $, and we're definitely not getting the bang for the buck. And that's BEFORE this big contract that Dak and/or Cooper are about to get. I honestly believe the coaching needs to get better, but at the same time with Jerry lording over the coaching staff, i don't see how any changes will ever be made, no matter who the coaching staff is.

We're stuck in the realm of mediocrity, and it's harder to get out of that than it is to be the worst team in the league. And it's got Jerry's fingerprints all over it.

What is terrible is how he promotes his own brand any time he gets a chance.

Real slap in the face to everyone. I guess he thinks he is some kind of business genius and we're supposed to applaud when he says clear eye view.

I'm a Jaylon Smith fan but my gosh he has been terrible on and off the field this season.

Lawrence played hard. He always does. Go back and watch the last 2 games. Watch just Jaylon every play. You will not believe your eyes.

Remember when you guys were all up on his nuts when he signed that extension, trying to play “good cop” just to spite Zeke for holding out? Good times.
This is a funny statement , no matter what side Ur on lol

I am not a fan and won’t be until he grabs a lunch pail and gets back to work.

I watch Smith. He's not playing nearly as bad as people claim. Great? Of course not, he's regressed quite a bit. But then again, so did LVE and our LB play in general.

So to me, before I start blaming and hating Smith and ripping him, I want to know why LB play, in general, slipped this year. Frankly, I think they use all our LBs poorly in terms of the scheme they run. They are also probably out of position.

Actually, the more I read the headline of this post “proud of the defensive effort” the more ill I become.

we are going to applaud their effort against a practice squad offense, while forcing 0 turnovers and getting only 1 sack?

how about their effort against the bears and bills? Win one of those games and the game last night doesn’t matter. But our defense got EMBARRASSED in those games.

Freaking awful
^^^^^^^^ this. Thank you. You could also add the packers and vikings games too. The cowboys defense has had its share of stinkers. They faced two Depleted offenses this season in the eagles and patriots and failed to do anything remotely effectual. I'm so sick of the defense getting a pass

You can argue the scheme but Smith has individual deficiencies that are individually his own: he’s useless trying to tackle in space; is a moth to flame in play-action; does not take on blocks and disrupt running lanes, et cetera.
