My top 5 are impossible to pin down as they're mood dependent. They either fit the mood I am in or I need a mood adjustment. I do collect movies so I can do that but I will usually start with a genre, which is how they're categorized, and work my way down to one or two movies. I would find it difficult to narrow down any genre to just 5.

Least favorite is easier.

Moulin Rouge, this movie put ants on me, I couldn't even finish it
Mama Mia, I would become a monk today if I knew that hell was that continually playing
THEY MADE A SECOND ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most any English drama where they stare at each other like Sense and Sensibility and I like Anthony Hopkins but not in those movies. I keep wishing he take out some of their body parts and start to snacking.
Most any movie with Will Ferrell in it.

Glad to see another fan of that movie.

It's a classic isn't it.
My brother first seen it on release here in the UK and was almost put out the cinema for hysterical laughter.

It's one of the most quotable movies there is. I think I use a quote a day, old fashioned's, aunt Bella etc etc, love it :D

Top 5 movies
1. Belle de Jour (1967)
2. En cas de malheur (Love Is My Profession, 1958)
3. La peau douce (The Soft Skin or The Silken Skin, 1964)
4. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
5. Star Trek II, the Wrath of Khan (1982)

Bottom 5 hated movies
1. Star Trek (2009)
2. Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
3. Star Trek Beyond (2016)
4. Terms of Endearment (1983)
5. Baise-moi (2000)
Depending how it's translated from the French, this title can mean "Kiss Me" or "@#$% Me." This is by far the worst French film I've ever seen. Some great films come from France. This isn't one of them. This is one of that country's stinkers. It's still not as bad as the three Star Trek movies I listed as 1, 2, and 3.

5 I love....
1.Thats The Way It Is
2.Elvis On Tour
3.A Fistful of Dollars
4.For A Few Dollars More
5.The Good,The Bad and The Ugly

5 I hate....
1.2001:space odyssey
2.Dune
3.Out of Africa
4.The Sound of Music
5.Ghandi

I agree with you on 2001, a Space Odyssey. It had great special effects for its time, but its story is a jumbled mess. It's supposedly a great film, but its plot is awful, in my opinion. A story has be make sense in a way that the audience can follow it. There can be ambiguities, but I found the film ambiguous all the way through. I don't get why it's considered so great. I also thought Dune was awful. I did think Out of Africa was a passable movie. I don't think it's anywhere near close to being great, but I didn't find it awful.

Favs:

1. Overboard
2. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
3. Blast from the Past
4. Guardians of the Galaxy
5. History of the World

Horrible, horrible movies:

1. The English Patient
2. Out of Africa
3. Battlefield Earth(Awesome book, BTW, but the movie was incredibly incredibly horrific.)
4. Field of Dreams
5. I am Legend

I've got to give honorable mention to The Witch (2015). It's the best-written time period piece I've ever seen. It transports you back in time to our colonial period in the 17th century. It's plot is slow moving, but it builds in an amazing way. It's not for everyone. Some people won't like the slower plot, but IMO it works. It's a very slow buildup, but definitely not a flatline. The writer got the older-style spoken English down perfectly, and their religious views and fears well. You also really felt how hard their lives were back then. It's an amazing film. Like I say, it's not for everyone. If you prefer fast plots or modern settings, you may not like it, but if you're a history buff like me and are good with slower plot buildups, you'll probably love this film.

Love -

Inception

The Social Network

L’avventura

Trainspotting

The Dark Knight

Dislike - (I don’t think I’ve ever hated a movie)

The Fast and Furious Movies. Rather than disliking them, I more just find them hilariously terrible, but somewhat entertaining.

Fantastic 4

Birdemic. Also hilariously bad, legitimately the worst movie ever made. A cinematic terrorist attack. Ungodly bad, and it’s only redeeming quality is that it’s pathetic writing, acting, directing and special effects are good for a laugh. If you haven’t seen it, I strongly recommend it. It’s on Netflix.

Catwoman

Far Cry
