I still see life sized Witten cut outs in the supermarkets and convenience stores selling Cowboys gear and beer here in DFW.

He's like that guy down at the liquor store. Just doesn't feel right if he's not there.
Well then I hope you love nostalgia more than you love winning.

For what, to be a progress stopper for another year?

I could ALMOST understand bringing him back this year, cause the team thought we had a legit chance of making the SB, but by mid-season when everyone knew it was a pipe dream, they had to get Jarwin the majority of the snaps.

The kid is athletic and has good hands, between this year and next we would know exactly what we had in him and wether to resign him or not.
Yea I want to put all my eggs in the Blake Jarwin basket.
I'm not sure if you know this but most teams don't just use 1 TE these days.
Witten isnt stopping anyones progress. If a younger more talented player isnt playing becuase of an older player then its not the fault of the older player. Its the fault of the coaches for letting that happen.

Give me the top guys at the position on my roster. What has Schultz shown to deserve to be that?

All true, but Blake Jarwin averages 11.8 yards per catch to Witten's 8.6. Tight ends today should be like oversized receivers; and that's what Jarwin is.

Witten never was a field stretcher, but he's even slower now than he was even four years ago. He should have been the number two (blocking) TE this year. The fact he possibly even stunted Jarwin's development this year is a shame.

People keep saying he stunts other yadda yadda. But jarwin was here last year and caught 27 balls without witten here. Seems having witten here has opened things up for jarwin in 2 te sets along with using him when he's on the field. Don't forget the 1st 8 games witten was catching 83% of his targets to jarwins 65ish%. He had a couple of dub par games since the Patriots game.

Parcells had no interest in having Emmitt Smith on the roster when he took over in 2003. And Emmitt was more effective than Witten at this point.

Also, “you won’t remember I was here in 6 weeks.” - Parcells when he packed it in.

I have no issue if he's back as a rotational player as a blocker and short yardage specialist. But barring a TE injury he should play 1/3 of the snaps, not more than 50% if we play a 2 TE package.

He is not a bad player to have around but he definitely needs to be a rotational player not a starter he still has some greatness in him but we need a tight end that can stretch the field a little bit better
IMO - Sill has goodness yes, but not greatness. He may be a good player (as a coach) to hang around but he's not doing anyone but himself a favor by playing next year. In some cases, players who were once great and start diminishing in talent are a hinderance to others (less popular but with more upside) who should be a playing. It also dilutes your true talent pool of players for draft and FA decisions. It can also create bad examples/attitudes for other players on the team in other positions trying to move up the chart who rather play for a team that thinks objectively about their starters and team Just my opinion.

You have to look at the big picture, nobody is saying Jarwin is the end all be all - but if he can be a good receiving TE with decent blocking - and if we can sign him for a very reasonable price, thats a win.

Or do we not know what we have - let him go and have to draft a TE high in the draft - have we not already invested heavily into the offense......4 - very highly paid O-linemen and a 2nd rounder, a RB and soon to be QB and WR.

Thats about 8 out of the 11 starters....defense needs a ton of help, I'd rather keep a good/solid TE at reasonable price and invest in the D.

One thing about Jason Witten. At least he shows up to play. I'm happy to have him as long as he wants to continue being a Cowboy.

Well I was giving him a little bit of greatness for that one handed catch couple weeks ago I probably overplayed that word a little LOL

as much as people like to say hes washed up

8th in catches
14th in yrds
Tied for 8th in TDs
And one of the best blocking Tes in the NFL

Not too shabby for somebody who is supposedly washed up

Yeah he had a solid first half to the year, but this 2nd half has been painful

I have no problem with him coming back but we need to find more snaps for Jarwin, with or without Witten.

I think they start Witten because of the things Jarwin cant do that the system needs. Jarwin isnt a good blocker and hes avg over the middle. Jarwin is a seam and sideline guy. Now thats not saying that hes bad. But for what these coaches want from their TE Witten is hands down better and should start. Now who knows with the next coach Jarwin could be perfect. But its Meyers he really needs to step up his blocking.

As has daks, elliots, coopers, gallups, cobbs...is it really every player suddenly trash or could it be these coaches arent using them to their strengths as all have said directly or indirectly.

Ya...we were lied to again. We were told he would be rotational and they literally never took him out and it killed our offense.

Defense were not scared of catch it and fall down...and I would guess he dropped more passes this year than he did in his entire career to this point.

Just need to move on.

Witten, man, you came back again. At least stay until you've won the Bowl.
