Slater on the radio:

- Apathetic feeling in the locker room this week. On The Break they said there's been a depressed feeling in the building the last month. Not only from players but all Cowboys employees.

- She said she gets the sense there are not enough guys on the team that "want it". A lot of guys who are going thru the motions. She mentioned guys like Bennett, Cobb, Dak, and Gallup as the type of guys they need more of. (Notice the players she mentioned...two vets from other teams)

- Also mentioned serious friction between the coaches throughout the season. She didn't feel comfortable going into details until the season ends.

- She said there were young players who were thrust into leadership roles that weren't ready for it.

- She talked to a player about what happened this season he told her they wilted under the high expectations coming into the season. They couldn't handle the pressure.

Players/coaches in the middle that probably do "want it" but are not strong vocal leaders will get "depressed" when the morale is low.

I've worked at companies where the morale was low and that can only be rectified by management.

I listened to Clarence Hill on Brady Quinn's show on NFL Radio last week and he described the vibe around the star as "death and damnation."

Likened this group to a bunch of men heading to a funeral rather than a critical inter-division game at home.

Remember, coaching has nothing to do with any of this.

Great post man thanks for the summary! As the offseason goes we will see the totality of the coaching ineptitude

I'm getting the sense this is not going to be a quick fix for the next coach. He's going to need to destroy and rebuild the culture here which is going to take a couple of years.
Unfortunately for Jerry, he doesn't have that many years left for all of that. New guy is going to have to make chicken salad out of the current chicken poop.

From an article I read:

The coup de grace occurred following Dallas’ final Week 17 practice on Friday. Allow Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram to paint the picture:

A Cowboys media relations staffer ushered us out of the locker room with the comment, “let’s do this again next week.”

I replied: “That ain’t up to us.”

A Cowboys player: “It ain’t up to us, either”

Me: “It was.”

Another Cowboys player: “Shots fired”
