Ah Tuna, we miss thee and remember thee with fondness for such memorable comments as "...he's so slow that we have to tackle guys twice..." about Marion Barber's running.

I remember him. He never let the team get ahead of themselves, even when Romo came in and started gun slinging it around.

The implication was that the meddler had free reign and all the damage that implied. The past decade of futility confirms Bill's admonition.

I disagree with Bill.

He did a lot for this franchise and gave us direction when we had none.
Then he was undermined by Jerrah :rolleyes:

I miss his press conferences. I used to listen to them back in college LOL

I don't think so.

I do think Jerry lets his coaches coach the team for the most part.

I think where Jerry fails is the overall culture he enables that has created the country club atmosphere.

Jerry's ego is the Cowboys #1 priority and winning is a distant 2nd.

He had the team set up for a SB run and then Jerry goofed it up with his coaching picks. First he picked his OC who was a coach in training and declared he's our coach in waiting. Then he hired a mediocre HC who is a very nice guy and is a yes man. He let Garrett handle the offense and Wade the defense. What could possibly go wrong?

Was great but also was way too conservative at times such as vs Seattle when they had a cab driver playing cb and their entire secondary was disabled.
It seems like fill in players, cab drivers, Shoe salesman, waiters, etc, always have great games against us.
We never have taken advantage of the other teams weaknesses when there were opportunities to do so.

Welp, here we are.

Dallas' record and win percentage from 97'-2002

39-57 (.406)

Dallas' record and win percentage from 2010-2019

86-74 (.537)

I threw out 94-96 because those were Jimmy's teams coached by Switzer. And I conversely threw out 2007-2009 for the same reason, even though Wade Phillips had more success than Parcells.

All this points to anyone who agrees with that statement, does not remember how bad it was before Parcells

Parcells was a quote machine, but he had enough years to win a playoff game, yet won nothing. Being funny, quotable, and a tough guy coach doesn’t mean much if you don’t win. He kept Romo on the bench longer than he should and was basically in charge of everything. Sorry, I don’t buy that he changed anything that resulted in a successful team.

Yes, but he also used the Cowboys to fund retirement for several of his former players.
His arrogance was overwhelming, but the man was a pretty good head coach.
But he never won a Super Bowl without Belicheck, showing his weakness.
But the discipline he instilled in the players was his defining feature. Garrett wasted it all in less than a season.

He was at the end of his career and still brought them back from the dumpster. Laid the foundation with Romo, Ware, Witten, Newman...all building blocks for the next coaches.

Jerry botched it by hiring the ultimate puppets next.

He is the reason the drafting has been much better in my opinion.

He laid a foundation and gave Jerry a blueprint.

so dumb. The only place he coached without belichick was Dallas. He didn't win a sb with belichick in ne or the jets either.

People who downplay parcells are ridiculous.
