Not many people got through his side when he was blocking. He did have some nice catches and some off drops. I wouldn't mind seeing him. Jarwin is the next man up, BUT his blocking is very limited vs Witten.

It's time for him to put on the hair rug and don a suit again. His reign is over. He can't perform at this level any longer. Some of the old war horses should leave with him.

Here's an idea. How about Dallas find a better TE? You act like its his fault that he's the best blocking TE on the team and is usually open.

Gronk, Ertz, and Graham can't / couldn't block worth crap. We need a receiving TE period.

Fine. I agree. But its not like we didn't go out and get one b/c Witten was back. Blame the coaches and FO. The fact Witten played as much as he did speaks to the lack of talent at the position.

Witten is one of my all-time favorite Cowboys. However, I agree it’s time to move on.

Still, it saddens me to see the disrespect he gets from many “fans”. The man has represented the Star as well as anyone who’s ever worn it.
Well said...
maybe it’s time for some on this site to show some respect.

DBs were fighting over who got to cover Witten.

Its comical to watch people act like he was a star. He is clearly the slowest TE in the league and barely an adequate blocker at this point. I blame the coaches for not having the balls to tell him to sit down and let Jarwin get 80% of the snaps, but he simply cannot play anymore. He could not play 2 years ago so to bring him back was idiotic.

He was a stud, he’s going to the HOF. Its ok to admit he can’t do it anymore.

Agreed 1000%. He should be honored as an all time great but he should not have been on the field. His flexibility is gone which means unless the pass hit him perfectly he couldn't adjust to catch it. And so slooow. He was in there because Garrett wanted his old warrior JW on the field.

I wouldn’t mind him back in the back up role to Jarwin but that isn’t happening. There are a lot worse tight ends in the league right now. Garrett and or Moore played Witten way too much this year.....

...and played Jarwin far too little. I just think Jarwin was good enough to deserve more playing time than they gave him.

The highlight of his last five years was the one-handed grab against the Rams..

Judging from his remarks I think he wants to play next year.

I wouldn't mind seeing him return to coach TE's the same way I wouldn't mind seeing Lee come back to coach LBs

Has he really though?

He preaches "earned" opportunities but he has gladly taken "given" opportunities to play these last few years. A true hero puts team before self.

He has supported the Garrett regime long past reasonable doubt. Yet when he was an announcer he said the philosophy requires the team to out execute the opponent with no margin for error. Yeah that makes sense to support a coach\scheme that does nothing to gain a competitive advantage unless that coach lets you do play when he shouldn't.

Long story short, I respect his contributions & I used to think he was this stand up guy but I'm a lot less confident in the stand up part these last few years. Sure started to sound like the things he said was different from his actions.

Covering Witten was not the easy task you portray it to be. Witten knew how to get open and he had good hands. Tackling Witten after the catch was a different matter, because he was slow and not too hard to bring down. But covering Wit was not that easy to do.

I agree and not because I"m "down" on Witt or angry with him.
I love the guy. He's a first ballot HOFer, a true gentleman and emblematic of what we should aspire to as professionals and men.

I want him gone because he's fallen off so much that I don't want him to tarnish his legacy by holding on too long.
Now is the time for JW to gracefully exit. He deserves to walk out the door with his head held high.
Not be forced out because he's clearly lost it.

Best of luck to him. One of my favorite Cowboys of all time.
