Just so we’re clear once and for all, Garrett likely isn’t going to be fired

Why would they set a date of January 14 way back when?

did they just assume no Super Bowl?

There is no reason to keep JG on the team through the 14th. One would think Jerry would want to make a decision as quickly as possible for the team and JG.

Waiting till the 14th would make it almost impossible for JG to get another job as an HC this season if that is what he wants.

Yes, very odd.

Announcing the firing quickly after the season sends a message that he's serious about change.

dragging out the uncertainly is very Jerry.

it's like free agency: Jerry will wait until the good ones are gone and dig through the bargain bin

His contract expires in 14 days and the most likely scenario is that it simply isn’t renewed. We save no money by terminating him over the next two weeks. None of that prevents us from interviewing and hiring someone else prior to that.

Im surprised this fairly straight forward and obvious information is being so overlooked by fans and the media a like. Everyone being so up in arms he hasn’t been “fired” is silly.

That is the hope for many a fan but an announcement as such would ease all the fears many of us have.....that Jerry Jones realizes that Jason Garrett is his personal puppet and he may not be ready to cut the strings just yet.

I would imagine the announcement and new hire will all be done between Thursday and next Monday.
I think the new hire will be awhile
Wildcard weekend is not the showcase Jerry will want
He likes him some flash

if JJ has a guy already targeted and wants him as HC...this will happen this week, MAYBE today.

I think some fans view this as if there should be vengeance taken on Garrett, and to them firing would represent that. It's a silly notion, because changing coaches isn't about vengeance, it's simply about trying to improve the talent in the head coaching position.

It's my opinion that "not renewed" is the same as "fired". It's a technicality, word parsing. I'm a "bottom line" kind of person, the intent and effect...regardless of choice of words.

It's a no-nonsense approach, a heavy does of reality. It doesn't sugar coat or play games.

I did this when discussing Romo's ....non-return. People told me, "no way dude he wasn't benched....he just wasn't brought back in". I'm like ...well....if you are/were the starter, and NOT brought back in...sitting on the bench...then you were benched.

Jason COULD quit/retire....that isn't fired. Now let's say the Cowboys folded, no more head coach job to be had...then that wouldn't be fired either. There's a coaching job NOW that Garret still has. There's a coaching job NEXT year...that he probably doesn't have not by his choice. Fired.

You are free to call it whatever makes you feel better.

Vengeance or not...THAT is exactly what they want. What difference does "vengeance" make? It's simply a little frustration at the non-standard length of tenure Garret was given.

At the end of the day...these fans you are ridiculing...want the same thing as you....improving the team.

Vengeance doesn't make a difference, but that's what some fans are seeking. Yes, we all want to see improvement, but we also have to think through how that works. It doesn't have to work where Garrett is fired the second after the season is over. There is no harm being done by not doing that.

"We"....don't HAVE to think ANYTHING through. "We"...are free to be fans as we want. "fan" short for fanatics or fanatical. Up to and including being a lunatic pom-pom waving rose glasses wearing, blue and silver makeup having dork.

People that try to present their fandom as completely logical and objective at every turn can be very annoying, as if the fate of the team rests with their opinions and "decisions".....like obsessive egotistic fantasy team players. Sure....some reality and levity is a good thing in anything we do...but battling about it on an internet sports forum? Weird.

Have some fun.

Serious question. Does this really matter to you? Why?
