Anyone Else Angry at Jaylon Smith's Carefree Attitude About Losing?

I'm disappointed with many players. I'm "angry" with the org, the org has been lacking SB's victories for like 24 years, some of todays players are not even 24 years old.

The fault does not rest with them but those expecting them to wail at the losing wall. It is a job to them and they all realize they're hired guns and will travel.

I wonder how those players we revere from the past would be in this modern NFL? Think it wouldn't be all about the gold to them too?

Fans have always taken losing harder and for longer than the players. The only exception is when they lose the big one and realize what got away, like those Atlanta players still on the team. And those Patriots that let the only 19-0 season slip away. And those Bills that were bridesmaids 4 straight times.

As far as Jaylon Smith is concerned, he's just happy to be there. He seems like a happy guy and he smiles most of the time, that's his personality. And as positive a guy as he seems to be, he had to have doubts that he would still be in the NFL, let alone a nice 2nd contract.

If you were a player on that team, would you be excited about extending this season for less pay? Think these guys have enjoyed life in the media and all of the speculation about this team? I am surprised they put in that effort against the Skins. I think this entire team is ready for the next chapter.

WE NEED THE NEXT HC to set the tone and make an example out of a big name player early on. Why not make a statement by trading Dlaw? The guy needs to either get his arse focused or be gone.
Because no other team is going to pay him what the Cowboys will. They cannot just trade their mistakes, have to pay for them.

Its not that difficult to interpret body language and the way these guys celebrate and respond during and after losses.

Yea I don’t know about that man. We see a pretty limited view, even with all the coverage.

Just my opinion- but I think it’s more likely that folks are upset at how the season went and project that frustration/emotion onto players they see who don’t appear to be acting the way they think they should.

None of them this year looked like they really were into it. They just walked through the season. I believe they thought they could just turn it on whenever they needed to and saw how bad our division was playing. They got there butts kicked in the egirls game and had a good last showing against the deadskins. Was sickening to watch the egirls and giants play and the egirls are so bad it took them almost 4 quarters to finally take the game over. And we went out there and put up that kind of game against them. With the talent we have. It makes me wonder if the team didn’t give up on the coaches and flop to get them fired.

What you expect if your HC is coaching a lame-duck year. There's a reason we almost never see it happen....even if a team kick in a phony extra year to expiring contract.

Yeah I don't like it either. Did anyone watch the NFL Superbowl special about the 92 Cowboys? Irvin talked about how he hated losing and he'd be so dejected in the locker room after a loss. And a lot of his team mates wouldn't care. I feel like that applies today.

Here's a clip for more context

My problem with Smith is he isn't very good and he was way overpaid

This is based on the eye test right? Because according to measurables, he's top 6 in every category for linebackers besides interceptions.

Tackles, Tackles for loss, Sacks, Pass Deflections, Forced Fumbles.. He's right there at the top of each category for LBs. Kind of hard to say he's overpaid when based on the numbers he's doing what they're asking him to do. Maybe this year we'll see a change to the defensive philosophy that will allow him to move downhill instead of covering TEs or WRs on any given play.

I agree thats certainly part of it, but it became increasingly obvious as the season went on that many of our guys either have very little awareness or dont mind losing. Celebrating routine plays while getting curb stomped is a losers attitude and I really hope the next coach puts an end to that.

I’m not here to defend his actions but I think I’m going to provide some clarity on what I think is going on with him. Given the nature of his injury I think the dude this is grateful to be playing football. He is grateful for having The ability to still be on the field. Unfortunately when you are part of something as gruesome as his injury you tend to look at little things as trivial. I think winning a football game or being in the postseason isn’t as important to him as his overall health, Considering the circumstances he’s been through.

Again I’m not trying to excuse him because it does run me off the wrong way but just hearing him talk and his mannerisms from the moment he was in drafted to now, He’s had the same mentality and it is the same mentality that allowed him to recover from his knee injury.

Heath was one of the best defensive players we had. Everything fell apart when he got hurt.

He was fast better then Woods and Awuzie.
This. Heath was only hated by a certain amount of fans. They just happened to be very loud about their hate towards him. The thing that should be asked, is why are we angry at DLaw and Jaylon? Now look at Heath. Can you imagine if DLaw and Jaylon played like Heath? Heath gets burned and makes mistakes but that guys flies all over the field and never gives up. I've never seen him celebrate a tackle when the other team got 4 yards on a 3rd and 3 like I have those other two idiots. Heath is far from our main problem on D right now.

Zeke was another one that was on my list, but during this last game, he was very serious and never saw him do his “feed me” sign. I don’t think he celebrated after his touchdowns. There may be hope for this one.

Wrong. Heath is the most hated and it ain't even close

Bingo! We have a winner here. The only player that actually outplays his salary (besides Dakota) but the disdain is strong for him.

IM not comparing yself to pro athletes, but I have coached comp fastpitch for 21 years. IN about year 7 I coached one of the best 16u teams in the nation. We lost 3 games all summer, and that was a 1 run loss to the back to back 18u National Champion, and 2 games against another top 18u team. We went to Nationals fully expecting to win a National Title. We went 3-2 and we were elimintaed because, IMO, me failing my team. After that loss, for the 1st and only real time in my life, I was depressed. I locked myself in my hotel for 3 straight days. I didnt even come out to eat, my wife brought me my meals. On the 3rd day, my team has heard the rumors about me and they all came to my room to get me out of my funk. We cried together, and that day changed my life as a coach. I could never again do that to myself. I either had to learn to accept losses in a more healthy way, or I needed to stop coaching all together. I now have what I calle the 1 hour rule. I allow myself and my team 1 hour to mope after a loss, and then we move on. I am prior military, and there are people dying for us right now. I have no right to let a sportig event bring me down.

So while I can not say I have ever competed at the level these guys play at, I can promise you winning and losing never meant more to them than it did to me coaching my teams. Maybe these guys already know what it took me a log time to learn. You do your best, you try to win........ and if you lose, you must move on. Sitting around and being depressed or angry will get you nowhere. I know it has certainly made my life better as far as watching the Dallas Cowboys.

Yeah I wonder if that had something to do with it. Especially when the games get tough.

Looks like the feed me is catching on though. I saw it a few times in some bowl games this past weekend.

He was just ready to go back to Cabo is all. Gotta save that energy to run on the beach!

Good post.......I might add we also should keep in mind how one player treats/reacts to losing doesn't mean it's less painful than the next. Personally, the celebration issue some have with Jaylon doesn't bother me at all as long as he's making plays. In fact, how is his celebration any different from LVE wolf thing?

Watching Jalon Smith on the sidelines and in post-game interviews, you'd think we were playoff bound. And Jalon is not alone. I saw many players who are comfortable with losing. I respect players who hate to lose but I guess the Jones culture is a way of life now where competing is the new winning. What a bunch of gutless losers the Jones culture has produced.

I remember watching Staubach, Drew Pearson, Michael Irvin, etc who hated to lose and willed their team to victory. Well I guess fond memories from the good old days are all we fans have left unless you buy Jerry's fools gold he sells every September.

I am. Guy is a clown. He is completely oblivious to how stupid he sounds sometimes.
