The fault does not rest with them but those expecting them to wail at the losing wall. It is a job to them and they all realize they're hired guns and will travel.

I wonder how those players we revere from the past would be in this modern NFL? Think it wouldn't be all about the gold to them too?

Fans have always taken losing harder and for longer than the players. The only exception is when they lose the big one and realize what got away, like those Atlanta players still on the team. And those Patriots that let the only 19-0 season slip away. And those Bills that were bridesmaids 4 straight times.

As far as Jaylon Smith is concerned, he's just happy to be there. He seems like a happy guy and he smiles most of the time, that's his personality. And as positive a guy as he seems to be, he had to have doubts that he would still be in the NFL, let alone a nice 2nd contract.

If you were a player on that team, would you be excited about extending this season for less pay? Think these guys have enjoyed life in the media and all of the speculation about this team? I am surprised they put in that effort against the Skins. I think this entire team is ready for the next chapter.
Then what is the point?

Without the fans the NFL doesn't exist.

Why shouldn't it be about getting the gold AND the trophy?

There isn't a player in the league, college or high school who isn't aware that media and fan speculation will be intense. You accept the gold you accept the responsibility of dealing with the spotlight and in giving 100% effort towards accomplishing team goals.

The crap we see from some of these guys would never be accepted in New England.

As long as the checks clear Jaylon, Frederick, Tyron, DLaw, Zeke, Zack, Collins and Cooper should be happy. This is not the days of Johnny Unitas when players needed offseason jobs.

I agree thats certainly part of it, but it became increasingly obvious as the season went on that many of our guys either have very little awareness or dont mind losing. Celebrating routine plays while getting curb stomped is a losers attitude and I really hope the next coach puts an end to that.

“Don’t mind losing”?

Ehhh I don’t know if I agree with a sweeping statement like that.
These guys have played at the highest of levels for most of their lives. Generally speaking that requires a hell of a lot of competitive desire and determination. Most people can’t just “turn it off”. But I’m not saying there aren’t exceptions.

Jaylon might be a weird case. I doubt he’s “okay with losing”, but he might be able to rationalize it better internally, as he’s lucky to be playing pro football period. Dude went through a ton of rehab to get where he is.

And lots of guys deliberately try to seem a certain way in front of cameras, etc. Or their online personas.

My problem with Smith is he isn't very good and he was way overpaid

But at the time it was a "great contract" because Jaylon wasn't being "greedy" like Zeke and "did things the right way" because he took less than market and was an overall swell guy. Nobody cared about JJ pimping his merch back then and actually thought it was JJ taking care of one of the good ones. People loved the contract because they thought JJ was sticking it to Zeke by paying others before him. Don't y'all remember? LOL.

This is why players shouldn't give 2 spits about fans. They don't deal in fans' currency of needing to be loved. I'd take the slings and arrows of hypocrites too if I could wipe my tears with $20 bills. Lol.

Imagine having a bad day at the office and walking to your car and hearing 70,000 screaming people that have no idea what you do to prepare screaming that you suck. It would probably get old after about the 1st time. I am sure professional NFL players of which there are only at 1600 in the world look at the screaming fans and think whatever, "go back to your 9 to 5 job and leave me alone. You can only wish you could do what I do. I am getting in my $100,000 car, going to my million dollar house and snuggling up to my super model wife, I dont care what you think "

Some players want it more. Romo, Witten, Dez, and Lee all come to mind. Ill never forget Romo hugging his family members and crying like a child after the Packers playoff loss. I saw the "tantrums" from Dez and I believe Witten came back for one reason alone. While I agree fans exaggerate what these games mean to many of the players, there are still warriors out there that simply hate to lose. The more guys like that you can put on a team the harder they will push.

I think it shows real moxie to celebrate a tackle ten yards downfield after a 3rd and 7.

Next HC is not going to do any better as far as player shape. This is the modern player as a whole. If you were in their shoes making millions of dollars, have side businesses forming, and life is going good for you, football is just a fraction of everything. The old mentality is over in players these days.

He celebrated with the swipe after a 4th down stop towards the end of the game. Could see the rest of the team had noticed the Giants had lost and they were done.I believe the only one that ran up and celebrated with him was the new rookie CB. Irritated the mess out of me.

I'm more annoyed by his showboating after every play (especially when that guy was injured right next to him this season or when they're losing). He seemed like such a humble and classy guy, but his antics are making me think otherwise.

Watching Jalon Smith on the sidelines and in post-game interviews, you'd think we were playoff bound. And Jalon is not alone. I saw many players who are comfortable with losing. I respect players who hate to lose but I guess the Jones culture is a way of life now where competing is the new winning. What a bunch of gutless losers the Jones culture has produced.

I remember watching Staubach, Drew Pearson, Michael Irvin, etc who hated to lose and willed their team to victory. Well I guess fond memories from the good old days are all we fans have left unless you buy Jerry's fools gold he sells every September.
When the head coach has a huge smile on his face after losing games, and has an indifferent attitude in his press conferences it becomes team culture. Jerry as well, 25 years of losing and won't make any significant changes in the way the team is run. When these are the turds you see running the team, the players have little to strive for in winning attitudes.

They are getting paid. Seems to be all that matters. Fans are more invested than the players any more.
And don't forget Tank actually blaming the fans.
""I don't feel like the direction is lost, I feel like sometimes the focus is lost. Everybody on this team, everybody in this fanbase need to look themselves in the mirror and ask themselves: 'Are they really here for the Cowboys or are they really here to just place blame on each other?"
There is something seriously wrong with these morons who like to blame everyone but themselves for their failures.
As ignorant as Jaylon is, this quote by Tank takes the cake.
