I honestly believe they wont re-sign him

i could also see him getting a one year prove it deal

what should have happened is him being dismissed after the Commanders game just so we can get a early start on the coaching search

I think it will be a combo of 1 and 2. He will be informed he will not be retained and let his contract run its course. He will not be in the building and will be relieved of all responsibilities.

I honestly don't know, i feel confused. Normal behavior is not something Jerry exercises. If this is just about a long goodbye, well then it should be over soon. If it's about something else well then i have no idea on timing.

I'll go with this week, not a firing, insert whatever other word you'd like.

I don't think they want to make it an ugly goodbye, so they just won't renew his contract. He'll be free to seek interviews, etc. without any ramifications. In fact I'm sure his agent has already been busy.

If it has taken this long to not fire him yet, or say his contract will not be extended.
Then Jerry is trying to put marks from the con side of the board to the pro side to get him a new contract.

taking this long is not a good sign he is gone.

Agreed, Im losing confidence rapidly. The reports of JJ meeting with the players to discuss coaching and the 2 meetings with Garrett seem to suggest anything but a firing. Its scary right now. I cant believe there's a world where he returns.

Garrett is gone by end of day. Cowboys ring in the new year by hiring Dez Bryant as head coach, Jason Witten as offensive coordinator and Sean Lee as defensive coordinator. Brett Maher comes back as special teams coach.

Completely agree. If this was a foregone conclusion (as it should have been) then there is no reason for the daily meetings. Even if Jerry didn't want to officially "fire" him an announcement should have happened by now that Garrett wasn't getting an extension and we thank him for his service to the organization.

Getting nervous about this. I absolutely cannot do another season of watching this putz clap on the sidelines.

Yea, this is what I was going to say. Options 1 and 2 are kind of the same thing lol

Either Jerry is basking in the attention of this and wants to release Garrett on a day where media attention will be at its highest, or he’s resigning him for one more year. It doesn’t take this long to fire someone. Garrett’s staying in the organization one way or another

At this point how can you not think he’s going to be retained. JG obviously like a cockroach was able to convince Jerry to keep him around and it worked..if he was gone it would have happened already

Is there a functional difference between firing him and letting his contract expire in two weeks? I think people really put too much though into that. Jerry is going to pay him through the end of his contract regardless of what happens and the amount of money involved has to be peanuts anyways.

My money is on a front office position (GM) - he has already started making decisions (O'Quinn to scouting, seek other employment, etc.)
They are waiting for playoffs to end, and will get a coach from one of those teams.
Probably already have the principles ironed out, and they are just playing the waiting game.
