I am a simple man.....I just want a coach that doesnt clap when bad things happen

Give me that and I'll be happy

I can live with that as long as you add that he tells the players if they "tap out" after a few plays they can expect to rest for quite a while on the sidelines...he expects them to be in shape when they report.

It seems lost on many fans that clapping isn't only used for applauding a success. It isn't at all uncommon for it to be a gesture to convey "hey, you need to get your feces together" or "let's straighten that out and do it better next time", or 'let's hustle off the field" or any number of things. It's really a weak complaint against Garrett and has nothing to do with his coaching abilities.

I find it odd so many fans complain about something as meaningless as this when there are tangible, supportable and legitimate issues with Garrett's coaching. Ultimately all anyone really needs to point to is that he hasn't accomplished what he was hired to accomplish, and he has failed to maintain the kind of year after year consistency that would suggest he is on the verge of accomplishing it. The fact that clapping is a gesture he uses isn't even a tiny blip on the radar in comparison.
I think fans get so mad that they look for anything. They pick clapping. Simply taking out anger. I for one get mad when there is a really bad play and they show him clapping. I want him to yell at the player for me. Which yes I know yelling at the player does no good. But I am mad and frustrated. I see a bad play now and I yell at the TV and tell my wife they better now show JG clapping on the sidelines. Of course I use a lot of curse words mixed in there. But I am a 49 year old man baby that’s sick of not having my team in the SB.

That's really the key point - it isn't that he clapping, which is no more than a habit, it's that we don't see the anger or frustration we would like to see. I can understand that viewpoint.

I know the term "The Clapper" is meant to pick on Garrett (and I've done it myself), but the reality is I've seen many, many coaches doing it. Jimmy Johnson used to do it a lot here.

If Garrett was more successful the clapping would either go unnoticed or we just wouldn't care. Just my opinion.

These are grown men, you don't clap at this level regardless of what you think it conveys when the player is not being smart, listening, putting out good effort, etc. He needs to know, these actions aren't acceptable, and will have consequences! That's why guys like cowher, Bill, Jimmy, and belicheck are great coaches. They convey , the idea that bad play will not be tolerated of there's any way whatsoever to fix it. Even if that means, benching, firing, fining, yelling, breaking headsets, getting fined by nfl and more. This is a big game that carries responsibility. Clap all uw at Ur little league team. Ppl who aren't serious are usually not very good at things they do. They are ......

Say we hire a guy...says all the right stuff, we have a great draft, the team does a complete turnaround, dominating everyone. We win 13, 14, 15 games with ease, then we get down by 10, third quarter in game 16. You turn on the TV, and what do you see? Coach on the sideline, trying to get his team going, hollering “C’mon, let’s go!” And he’s...CLAPPING!

Would you lose it? Would you SCREAM for him to be replaced? Would you consider him a useless moron who just doesn’t care? Clapping! The ultimate offense!
